AIM:To evaluate the effect of vitrectomy combined with scleral shortening for eyes with myopic macular ***:Thirty-seven patients with myopic macular retinoschisis who underwent pars plana vitrectomy(PPV)combined with scleral shortening were *** length(AL),the height of macular retinoschisis,the height of retinal detachment if existed,the diameter of macular hole if existed and best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)were *** preoperative and postoperative parameters were ***:At postoperative 24 mo,the mean AL and height of macular retinoschisis were reduced significantly by 0.79 mm and 256.51μm(t=8.064,P<0.0001;Z=-5.086,P<0.0001)*** addition,the mean height of retinal detachment and diameter of macular hole were also reduced significantly by 365.38μm and 183.68μm(Z=-4.457,P=0.000008;Z=-2.983,P=0.003)***,the postoperative BCVA was improved markedly(Z=-2.126,P=0.033).CONCLUSION:Vitrectomy combined with scleral shortening is an effective surgical method for eyes with myopic macular retinoschisis,whether or not macular hole and retinal detachment are present.

In recent years,biochar has attracted considerable attention for soil quality improvement and carbon sequestration due to its unique physicochemical ***,the mechanism by which biochar application negatively affects the growth of crop seedlings has not been fully *** this study,a hydroponic experiment was conducted to evaluate the response of rice,wheat,and corn seedlings to biochar application(CK,0 g/L;BC1,0.5 g/L;and BC2,1.0 g/L).Compared with the CK treatment,the BC1 and BC2 treatments decreased the fresh shoot and root weights of rice and corn seedlings(Plings(P>0.05).For the contents of nutrient elements in seedlings,both BC1 and BC2 treatments hindered the roots from absorbing Fe and Cu and increased the uptake of Ca and *** with the CK treatment,the translocation factor(TF)values of Ca,Mn,and Zn were significantly decreased especially in rice seedlings(35.3%-36.8%,68.7%-76.5%,and 29.8%-22.0%,respectively)under the BC1 and BC2 treatments,while only Mn was significantly decreased in wheat and corn seedlings(Plication can reduce nutrient absorption and translocation,and hinder rice,wheat,and corn seedlings,particularly rice seedling,in hydroponic system.

Relationship between the expression of Toll-like receptor 2 and 4 in mononuclear cells and postoperative acute lung injury in orthotopic liver transplantation

Background The aim of this study was to investigate the potential relationship between the dynamic expression of Toll-like receptor 2 and 4 （TLR2/4） in peripheral blood mononuclear cells as well as changes in serum concentration of inflammatory factors and acute lung injury （ALl） in patients after orthotopic liver transplantation （OLT）. Methods The peripheral blood samples of 27 patients （23 men and 4 women with ASA Ⅲ to Ⅳ） who received OLT were collected for measurement of TLR2/4 at T1 （after induction of anesthesia）, T2 （25 minutes after anhepatic phase）, T3 （3 hours after graft reperfusion） and T4 （24 hours after graft reperfusion）. The expression of TLR2/4 in mononuclear cells was measured by flow cytometry. The serum concentrations of tumor necrosis factor （TNF）-α, interleukin （IL）-1β and IL-8 were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay （EliSA）. Twenty-seven patients were assigned to ALl group （n=-9） and non-ALl group （n=-18） according to the diagnostic criteria of ALl. The expression of TLR2/4 in the ALl group or non-ALl group was analyzed. Results Compared to the non-ALl group, the volumes of blood loss, ascites, total output and transfused red blood cells were higher in the ALl group, and the anhepatic phase lasted longer （P 〈0.05, P 〈0.01）. The expression of TLR2/4 in mononuclear cells increased significantly at T3 and T4, and serum concentrations of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-8 increased significantly too. There was no significant difference in Child-Turcotte-Pugh （CTP） scores between the ALl group and non-ALl group （P 〉0.05）. The expression of TLR2/4 in mononuclear cells increased significantly at T3 and T4 in the ALl group （P 〈0.05, P〈0.01）. A positive correlation was noted between the expression of TLR4 in mononuclear cells and the serum concentrations of TNF-α, IL-1β （P=0.041, P=0.046） in the ALl group. Coastal wetlands are hotspots for nitrogen(N)cycling,and crab burrowing is known to transform N in intertidal marsh ***,the underlying mechanisms remain *** study conducted field experiments and used indoor control test devices to investigate the seasonal response of nitrogen to crab disturbance at the sediment-water interface in coastal tidal flat *** results showed that crab disturbance exhibited significant seasonality with large seasonal differences in cave density and *** to crab disturbance,nitrogen fuxes at the sediment-water interface were much greater in the box with crabs than in the box without *** summer,NH-N showed a positive flux from the sediment to the overlying water,but NO2-N and NOg-N showed positive fluxes from the sediment to the overlying water only in early *** winter,NH-N showed a positive flux from the sediment to the overlying water,but NO-N and NO,-N both exhibited positive and negative *** results indicated that the presence of crab burrows can cause the aerobic layer to move downward by approximately 8-15 cm in summer and directly promote nitrification at the sediment surface.

Impact of the Political Risk on Food Reserve Ratio:Evidence Across Countries

Using an unbalanced panel data covering 75 countries from 1991 to 2019, the authors explore how the political risk impacts on food reserve ratio. The empirical findings show that an increasing political risk negatively affects food reserve ratio, and the same effects hold for both internal risk and external risk. Moreover, the authors find that the increasing external or internal risks both negatively affect food production and food exports, but external risk does not significantly impact food imports and it positively impacts food consumption, while internal risk negatively impacts food imports and food consumption. The results suggest that most governments have difficulty raising subsequent food reserve ratios in face of an increasing political risk, no matter if it is an internal risk or an external risk although the mechanisms behind the impacts are different.

Abstract The development of physically crosslinked hydrogels with excellent mechanical and sensing properties is of importance for expanding the practical applications of intelligent soft hydrogel ***,after copolymerization of hydroxyl-containing amino acid derivative N-acryloyl serine （ASer） with acrylamide （AM）,we introduce Zr4+through an immersion strategy to construct metal ion-toughened non-covalent crosslinked hydrogels （with tensile strength of up to 5.73 MPa）.It is found that the synergistic coordination of hydroxyl and carboxyl groups with Zr4+substantially increases the crosslinking density of the hydrogels,thereby imparting markedly superior mechanical properties compared to hydroxyl-free Zr4+-crosslinked hydrogels,such as N-acryloyl alanine （AAla） copolymerized with AM hydrogels （with tensile strength of 2.98 MPa）Through the adjustment of the composition of the copolymer and the density of coordination bonds,the mechanical properties of the hydrogels can be modulated over a wide ***,due to the introduction of metal ions and the dynamic nature of coordination bonds,the hydrogels also exhibit excellent sensing performance and good self-recovery properties,paving the way for the development of flexible electronic substrates with outstanding comprehensive performances.
