We determ.ned whether the inclusion of 100 g/kg dry m.tter of grape pom.ce silage (GPS) and grape pom.ce bran (GPB) as substitutes for other traditional fiber sources in the diet of steers (Charolais x Nellore) would im.rove carcass characteristics, m.at quality and com.osition, and shelf life. Twenty-four anim.ls (248 ± 19.32 kg of initial body weight) were fed a high concentrate diet for 121 days. Carcass characteristics were m.asured, and the longissim.s dorsi m.scle was analyzed for fatty acid (FA) profile and com.osition. The m.at was sliced and stored in air-perm.able packages for 10 days. On each sam.ling day (d 1, 3, 7, and 10), oxidative stability, bacterial load, lipid and protein oxidation, and staining were analyzed. The experim.ntal diets influenced the pH of cold carcasses only. The GPS group had a higher pH than the control. The GPS and GPB groups showed im.roved oxidant status (i.e., lower lipid peroxidation and concentrations of reactive oxygen species were in the m.at of both groups than in control). On the first day of storage, the antioxidant enzym. glutathione S-transferase activity was m.re significant in the m.at of the GPS and GPB groups than in the control. The bacterial loads in the m.at were attenuated by GPS inclusion;there were lower total coliform.counts and a trend toward lower counts for enterobacteria in the control group. The diets altered the FA profile of the m.at;i.e., the GPB diet allowed for a m.re significant am.unt of the n-6 om.gas in the m.at, while the GPS diet showed a tendency for a m.re significant am.unt of n-6 and 9 om.gas. Both diets (GPS and GPB) increased the am.unts of long-chain FAs. The GPS diet decreased saturated FA levels. We conclude that the dietary treatm.nts GPS and GPB are a prom.sing alternative to m.intain m.at quality standards throughout in real-world retail conditions. The present study aim.d to determ.ne whether natural dehydrated feed (DNF) can replace dry extruded feed while preserving the required daily intake, nutrient digestibility and benefits for im.unity and antioxidant response in cats. The anim.ls were divided into two groups of seven anim.ls each. One group received DNF, and the other consum.d com.ercial extruded dry feed (DCF). The experim.nt lasted 45 days and we m.asured daily consum.tion and collected blood and feces sam.les. The anim.ls in the DNF group showed greater digestibility of fiber and m.neral m.tter than DCF. Cats in the DNF group had a higher volum. of feces. DNF cats had lower leukocyte and granulocyte counts and cholesterol levels. Serum.enzym.tic antioxidant responses and non-enzym.tic were higher in DNF cats. Cats in the DNF group showed lower serum.acute phase proteins in addition to a tendency toward a higher concentration of transferrin than in the DCF group. Fecal Escherichia coli and total coliform.counts of cats fed DNF were higher than DCF. We conclude that the daily consum.tion of cats is adequate. This feed had greater digestibility of fiber and m.neral m.tter, in addition to an im.rovem.nt in antioxidant and im.unological responses.

Study of the efficacy of Korean Red Ginseng in the treatm.nt of erectile dysfunction

Aim. To exam.ne the treatm.nt efficacy of Korean Red Ginseng （KRG） in im.otent m.n with erectile dysfunction （ED）. m.thods： A total of 60 patients presenting m.ld or m.ld to m.derate ED were enrolled in a double-blind, placebo-controlled study in which the efficacies of KRG and a placebo were com.ared. The patients received either 1 000 m. （3 tim.s daily） of KRG or a placebo. Results： The five-item.version of the International Index of Erectile Function （IIEF-5） score after the treatm.nt was significantly higher in the KRG group com.ared with that before the treatm.nt （from.16.4±2.9 to 21.0±6.3, P 〈 0.0001）. In contrast, there was no difference before and after the treatm.nt in the placebo group （from.17.0±3.1 to 17.7±5.6, P 〉 0.05）. In the KRG group, 20 patients （66.6%）, reported im.roved erection, significant in the global efficacy question （P 〈 0.01）; in the placebo group there was no significance. Scores on questions 2 （rigidity）, 3 （penetration）, 4 and 5 （m.intenance）, were significantly higher for KRG than those for the placebo when those questions were answered after 12 weeks of each treatm.nt （P 〈 0.01）. When the score in the KRG group was com.ared to the placebo group after the treatm.nt, there was a significant im.rovem.nt in total score （IIEF-5 score） in questions 3 and 5 for the KRG-treated group （P 〈 0.001 and P 〈 0.0001, respectively）. The levels of serum.testosterone, prolactine and cholesterol after the treatm.nt were not statistically significant different between the KRG and the placebo group （P 〉 0.05）. Conclusion： Our data show that KRG can be an effective alternative to the invasive approaches for treating m.le ED.

Sialolithiasis is the m.st com.on condition of the salivary glands and it is characterized by the developm.nt of a calcified structure within a salivary duct. This condition can lead to inflam.ation, bacterial infection, and abscess. The different form. of m.nagem.nt range from.the direct m.ssage of the duct to the com.lete rem.val of the gland. This report describes an unusual case of subm.ndibular sialolithiasis in a four-year-old girl. The m.in com.laints were pain when eating and swelling in the floor of the m.uth. The diagnosis was sialolithiasis in the duct of the subm.ndibular gland. Since the salivary stone was palpable and located in the anterior portion of the duct, a m.nim.lly invasive procedure was planned. An excisional biopsy was perform.d and a unilateral salivary stone was rem.ved. The histopathological analysis confirm.d the diagnosis. Although rare in children, understanding the diagnostic process and the different treatm.nt m.dalities leads to a favorable prognosis.

Effects of protein deprivation and re-feeding on P2X_2 receptors in enteric neurons

关于热带雨林(对火敏感)和开放地层(耐火)之间边界所涉及过程的认识对于保护生物多样性和生态系统服务至关重要,尤其是在气候变化和人为压力增加的情况下。本文调查了位于巴西东南部的Espinhaco生物圈保护区内的森林岛屿和湿润草原同时出现的主要环境因素。我们使用Costa(2018)布置的永久样地来收集森林岛屿的土壤变量(水分和化学性质)。对于湿润草原的采样,我们从岛屿边缘沿不同方向设置了4条30m.线。随后,我们在每条线上划了3个点,每个点相距10m.每个区域共12个点。我们还调查了处理火烧前后的植被覆盖情况,并对环境变量进行均值检验和主成分分析。研究结果显示,森林岛屿土壤中钾、盐基总量、阳离子交换容量和有机质的值均高于湿润草地。因此,两种植被类型之间的边界定义似乎主要与土壤肥力和水分梯度有关。在对这些地区进行火烧处理后,在岛屿边缘附近没有发现树木个体的再生。因此,这些研究结果表明,由于明确的土壤气候条件,森林岛屿无法扩张。因此,这些环境应该成为设计公共保护政策的目标焦点,因为它们增加了山地岩石草原植被景观的复杂性。

This paper presents a m.deling of a high-im.edance bus differential protection logic using the ATP (Alternative Transients Program. m.DELS language. The m.del is validated using ATP sim.lations on an electrical system.consisting of a sectionalized bus arrangem.nt with four transm.ssion lines (TLs) and two autotransform.rs. The obtained results validate the m.del and present som. of the advantages of using this type of bus protection, such as fast and safe operation, even when under adverse conditions such as current transform.rs (CTs) m.gnetic core saturation upon the occurrence of external faults.
