Microbe—Chloroacetanilide Herbicide Interaction across Soil Type

An investigation was carried out under laboratory conditions to study the persistence of butachlor applied at recommended dose (2 kg ai/ha) along with its impact on microbial activity as well as growth of colonial bacteria and fungi in alluvial (Typic Haplaquent), lateritic (Typic Haplustalf) and coastal (Typic Haplaquept) soils. Butachlor caused a significant increment in microbial activity following an initial diminution in between 10 to 22 days of incubation depending on the type of soil. The herbicide resulted in a significant shrinkage in bacterial community during later stages of incubation in lateritic and coastal soils in spite of a significant swelling on the 15th day in lateritic and alluvial soils. Fungal community significantly expanded at the initial stage in lateritic soil and during later stages in alluvial soil by the application of butachlor but shriveled during later stages in the lateritic soil, intermediate stage in coastal soil and initial stages in alluvial soil. Alluvial soil reared the highest population of colonial bacteria and exhibited highest microbial activity while coastal soil significantly pressed them down to the lowest. However, lateritic soil was the best niche for fungal community. Co-metabolism was the main phenomenon in butachlor metabolism particularly in coastal soil, though zymogenous microbes including bacteria and fungi also participated in both lateritic and alluvial soil at certain stages. The persistence of butachlor was the lowest in alluvial soil followed by lateritic and coastal soil, respectively. Among the soil types application of butachlor is safe in alluvial soil.

Two-Stent Strategy for Bifurcation Lesions in Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Angioplasty: Real-World Evidence

Background: Bifurcation lesions pose a high risk for adverse events after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Evidence supporting the benefits of the two-stent strategy (2SS) for treating coronary bifurcation lesions in India is limited. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical outcomes of various 2SSs for percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty for bifurcation lesions in India. Materials and Methods: This retrospective, observational, multicentric, real-world study included 64 patients over 8 years. Data on demographics, medical history, PCI procedures, and outcomes were recorded. Descriptive statistics were computed using the SPSS software. Results: Patients (n = 64) had an average age of 65.3 ± 11.1 years, with 78.1% males. Acute coronary syndrome was reported in 18.8%, chronic stable angina in 40.6%, and unstable angina in 34.4% of participants. Two-vessel disease was observed in 98.4% of patients, and 99.4% had true bifurcation lesions. The commonly involved vessels were the left anterior descending artery (50%), left circumflex coronary artery (34.4%), and first diagonal artery (43.8%). Mean percent diameter stenosis was 87.2% ± 10.1%. The mean number of stents used was 2.00 ± 0.34. The 2SS techniques included the T and small protrusion (TAP) (39.1%), double kissing (DK) crush (18.8%), and the culotte techniques (14.1%). Procedural and angiographic success rate was 92.18%. Major adverse cardiovascular events at 1-year follow-up occurred in 7.8% of cases. Conclusion: The 2SS for bifurcation lesions showed favorable in-hospital and follow-up outcomes. Findings can serve as a resource for bifurcation angioplasty in India. Larger real-world studies with robust methodology are needed to validate these results.

The effect of La^(3+)and Nd^(3+)on piezoelectric,dielectric and ferroelectric properties of PZT(Pb(Zr_(0.53)Ti_(0.47))O_(3))was *** powders were prepared by“wet-chemical”route followed by calcination at 800℃for 4 *** analysis of the calcined powders confirms the tetragonal phase in the undoped PZT,which gradually decreases with the dopant concentration and the appearance of rhombohedral phase *** study of sintered pellets reveals the decrease in grain size with the increase in dopant concentration beyond 0.02 mol Nd^(3+)and 0.03 mol La^(3+)*** piezoelectric constant(d_(33))and dielectric properties were maximum for 0.02 mol Nd^(3+)and 0.03 mol La^(3+)*** remnant polarization of La^(3+)-doped sample was higher than Nd^(3+)-doped sample,and the sample with combined dopants shows intermediate remnant polarization(P_(r)).Based on the above study,it is concluded that La^(3+)is more effective than Nd^(3+),including in a mixture of La^(3+)and Nd^(3+)dopants.

Synthesis and characterization of manganese tetroxide(Mn_(3)O_(4))nanofibers by electrospinning technique

Manganese tetroxide(Mn_(3)O_(4))nanofibers were prepared by electrospinning homogeneous viscous solution of 20 wt%,28 wt%and 36 wt%manganese acetate in poly vinyl alcohol(PVA)and calcining the nanofibers at 1000℃for 2 *** was carried out at 9 kV DC with tip to collector distance(TCD)of 7 *** gravimetric analysis(TGA)of the fibers indicates the pure phase of manganese oxide above 500℃.XRD analysis of calcined(at 1000℃)nanofibers indicates the formation of phase-pure tetragonal Mn_(3)O_(4).Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)studies show the fibers cylindrical with the diameters in the range of 100-600 nm and aspect ratio>*** general,the average diameter of the green fibers decreases with the increase in manganese acetate *** diameter of calcined nanofibers is reduced by 34%.

Evaluation of phenolic composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of Polygonatum verticillatum(L.)

Objective： Polygonaturn verticillatum （L） All. （Ruscaceae）, one of the Ashtawarga plants, is widely used for treatment of various ailments. The present study was undertaken to determine the phenolic composition, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities of several extracts （petroleum ether, dichloro- methane, chloroform, ethanol, and aqueous） from the rhizomes of the plant. Methods： Coarsely powdered dry rhizome was successively extracted with different solvents of increas- ing polarity （petroleum ether, dichloromethane, chloroform, ethanol and water）. The phenolic composi- tions, in terms of total phenolic content （TPC）, total flavonoid content （TFC） and total condensed tannin content （JTC）, were evaluated with the Folin-Ciocalteu assay, aluminum chloride colorimetric assay and vanillin spectrophotometric assay, respectively. Total antioxidant capacity, 1,1-diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl and 2,2＇-azino-his（3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid） assays were used to assess the antioxidant potential of each extract. A protein denaturation model and 3-（4,5-dimethylthiazol-2- yl）-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay were used to evaluate in vitro anti-inflammatory and anti- cancer activities, respectively. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC/MS） analysis was carried out to demonstrate various phytoconstituents in each extract. Correlation studies were also performed between phenolic composition （TPC, TFC and TFC） and different biological activities. Results： Ethanol extract showed maximum TPC （0.126 mg/g, gallic acid equivalent in dry sample）, TFC （0.094 mg/g, rutin equivalent in dry sample） and TTC （29.32 mg/g, catechin equivalent in dry sample）, as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Chloroform extract exhibited the strongest cyto- toxicity against the human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7. GC/MS analysis revealed the presence of 90 different phytoconstituents among the extracts. Effect of molasses binder on the physical and mechanical properties

Molasses was used as an alternative binder to the bentonite binder. The change in moisture absorption by pellets prepared with different iron ores and different molasses contents were investigated. Iron ore properties exerted the major effect on pellet behavior and final pellet quality. The absorbed moisture content of pellets prepared without binder, bentonite-added pellets, and molasses-added pellets were in the range of 7.72%–9.95%, 9.62%–10.84%, and 6.14%-6.69%, respectively. The wet pellet compressive strength of molasses-added pellets(43–230 N/pellet) was superior to that of bentonite-added pellets(9.47–11.92 N/pellet). The compressive strength of dried molasses-modified pellets increased to 222–394 N/pellet, which is currently the highest value achieved for dried pellets.

Phytochemical Profiling and Bioactivity of A Mangrove Plant,Sonneratia apetala,from Odisha Coast of India

Objective： To test the antioxidant, antidiabetic, anticancer and antibacterial activities along with phytochemicals of Sonneratia apetala Buch.-Ham. Methods： The antibacterial activity was determined by agar well diffusion method. The antioxidant activity was determined by standard assay. The antidiabetic activity was evaluated by α-glucosidase inhibition assay and in vivo anticancer property was determined against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma （EAC） cells in Swiss Albino mice. Further partial characterization of the methanol extracts was carried out by thin layer chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and Fourier transform-infra red spectrum spectral analysis. Results： Four solvent extracts （acetone, ethanol, methanol and aqueous） of leaf and bark possess strong antioxidant properties. In vivo anticancer activity of methanol extract leaf indicated positive activity showing 34% inhibition against EAC cells in Swiss Albino mice. All extracts exhibited a-glucosidase inhibitory activity in a dose-dependent manner indicating presence of promising antidiabetic properties. The extracts possess strong antibacterial activity against the selected pathogenic bacteria （minimal inhibitory concentration ranging from 1.25-5.00 mg/mL）. The partial characterization of the methanol extracts of leaf and bark revealed the presence of phenolics as the lead compound responsible for studied bioactivities of the plant extracts. Conclusion： Sonneratia apetala extracts have potent antibacterial, antioxidant, antidiabetic and anticancer properties which can be further exploited for its pharmaceutical applications.

Effects of Organic Amendments on Soil Physical Attributes and Aggregate-Associated Phosphorus Under Long-Term Rice-Wheat Cropping

The quantification of phosphorus(P) in bulk soil and P distribution in different size fractions of water-stable aggregates(WSAs)are important for assessing potential P loss through runoff. We evaluated available and total P distribution within WSAs of a sitty clay to clay soil in a long-term fertility experiment of a rice-wheat cropping system in India. Surface soil samples were collected from seven plots amended with NPK fertilizers in combination with or without organic amendments, farmyard manure(FYM), green manure(GM), and paddy straw(PS). The plot with no NPK fertilizers or organic amendments was set as a control. The soil samples were separated by wet sieving into four soil aggregate size fractions: large macroaggregates(> 2.0 mm), small macroaggregates(0.25–2.0 mm), fine microaggregates(0.05–0.25 mm), and a silt + clay-sized fraction( small macroaggregates > fine microaggregates> large macroaggregates. Within a size class, aggregate-associated available and total P contents in the organically amended soil were in the following order: FYM > PS ≥ GM. The available P content of the microaggregates( 0.25 mm), and the total P content of the microaggregates was 4-to 5-times higher than that of the macroaggregates.
