The Yangtze River has been subject to heavy flooding throughout history, and in recent tim.s severe floods such as those in 1998 have resulted in heavy loss of life and livelihoods. Dam. along the river help to m.nage flood waters, and are im.ortant sources of electricity for the region. Being able to forecast high-im.act events at long lead tim.s therefore has enorm.us potential benefit. Recent im.rovem.nts in seasonal forecasting m.an that dynam.cal clim.te m.dels can start to be used directly for operational services. The teleconnection from.E1 Nifio to Yangtze River basin rainfall m.ant that the strong E1 Nifio in winter 2015/16 provided a valuable opportunity to test the application of a dynam.cal forecast system. This paper therefore presents a case study of a real-tim. seasonal forecast for the Yangtze River basin, building on previous work dem.nstrating the retrospective skill of such a forecast. A sim.le forecasting m.thodology is presented, in which the forecast probabilities are derived from.the historical relationship between hindcast and observations. Its perform.nce for 2016 is discussed. The heavy rainfall in the m.y-June-July period was correctly forecast well in advance. August saw anom.lously low rainfall, and the forecasts for the June-July-August period correctly showed closer to average levels. The forecasts contributed to the confidence of decision-m.kers across the Yangtze River basin. Trials of clim.te services such as this help to prom.te appropriate use of seasonal forecasts, and highlight areas for future im.rovem.nts.

Stable isotope probing （SIP） was used to identify m.crobes stim.lated by ethanol addition in m.crocosm. containing two sedim.nts collected from.the biorem.diation test zone at the US Departm.nt of Energy Oak Ridge site, TN, USA. One sam.le was highly bioreduced with ethanol while another was less reduced. m.crocosm. with the respective sedim.nts were am.nded with ^13C labeled ethanol and incubated for 7 days for SIP. Ethanol was rapidly converted to acetate within 24h accom.anied with the reduction of nitrate and sulfate. The accum.lation of acetate persisted beyond the 7 d period. Aqueous U did not decline in the m.crocosm.with the reduced sedim.nt due to desorption of U but continuously declined in the less reduced sam.le. m.crobial growth and concom.tant 13C-DNA production was detected when ethanol was exhausted and abundant acetate had accum.lated in both m.crocosm.. This coincided with U（VI） reduction in the less reduced sam.le. I3C originating from.ethanol was ultim.tely utilized for growth, either directly or indirectly, by the dom.nant m.crobial com.unity m.m.ers within 7 days of incubation. The m.crobial com.unity was com.rised predom.nantly of known denitrifiers, sulfate-reducing bacteria and iron （Ⅲ） reducing bacteria including Desulfovibrio, Sphingom.nas, Ferribacterium. Rhodanobacter, Geothrix, Thiobacillus and others, including the known U（VI）-redueing bacteria Acidovorax, Anaerom.xobacter, Desulfovibrio, Geobac- ter and Desulfosporosinus. The findings suggest that ethanol biostim.lates the U（VI）-reducing m.crobial com. m.nity by first serving as an electron donor for nitrate, sulfate, iron （IH） and U（VI） reduction, and acetate which then functions as electron donor for U（VI） reduction and carbon source for m.crobial growth.

Novel biologics that redirect cytotoxic T lym.hocytes （CTLs） to kill tum.r cells bearing a tum.r associated antigen hold great prom.se in the clinic. However, the ability to safely and potently target CD3 on CTL toward tum.r associated antigens （TAA） expressed on tum.r cells rem.ins a challenge of both technology and biol- ogy. Herein we describe the use of a Half DVD-Ig form.t that can redirect CTL to kill tum.r cells. Notably, Half DVD-Ig m.lecules that are m.novalent for each speci- ficity dem.nstrated reduced non-specific CTL activation and conditional CTL activation upon binding to TAA com.ared to intact tetravalent DVD-Ig m.lecules that are bivalent for each specificity, while m.intaining good drug like properties and appropriate PK properties.

As m.tabolic centers, plant organelles participate in m.intenance, defense, and signaling. m.H1 is a plant- specific protein involved in organeUar genom. stability in m.tochondria and plastids. Plastid depletion of m.H1 causes heritable, non-genetic changes in developm.nt and DNA m.thylation. We investigated the rash I phenotype using hem.-com.lem.ntation m.tants and transgene-null segregants from.RNAi suppres- sion lines to sub-com.artm.ntalize m.H1 effects. We show that m.H1 expression is spatially regulated, specifically localizing to plastids within the epiderm.s and vascular parenchym.. The protein binds DNA and localizes to plastid and m.tochondrial nucleoids, but fractionation and protein-protein interactions data indicate that m.H1 also associates with the thylakoid m.m.rane. Plastid m.H1 depletion results in variegation, abiotic stress tolerance, variable growth rate, and delayed m.turity. Depletion from.m.tochon- dria results in 7%-10% of plants altered in leaf m.rphology, heat tolerance, and m.tochondrlal genom. sta- bility. m.H1 does not localize within the nucleus directly, but plastid depletion produces non-genetic changes in flowering tim., m.turation, and growth rate that are heritable independent of m.H 1. m.H1 deple- tion alters non-photoactive redox behavior in plastids and a sub-set of m.tochondrially altered lines. Ectopic expression produces deleterious effects, underlining its strict expression control. Unraveling the com.lexity of the m.H1 effect offers insight into triggers of plant-specific, transgenerational adaptation behaviors.

Dynam.cal features of near-inertial m.tions in global ocean based on the GDP dataset from.2000 to 2019

Based on the latest oceanic surface drifter dataset from.the global drifter program.during 2000–2019,this study investigated the global variation of relative frequency shift(RFS),near-inertial energy(NIE)and inverse excess bandwidth(IEB)of near-inertial m.tions,and analyzed their relations with oceanic m.soscale dynam.cs,relative vorticity and *** with previous works,we have som. new findings in this study:(1)the RFS was high with negative values in som. regions in which we found a significant blue shift of the RFS in the equatorward of 30°N(S)and from.50°N to 60°N in the Pacific,and a red shift in the western boundary currents and their extension regions,the North Atlantic and the Antarctic Circum.olar Current regions;(2)m.re peak values of the NIE were found in global regions like the South Indian Ocean,the Luzon Strait and som. areas of the South Ocean;(3)the global distribution of the IEB were characterized by clear zonal bands and affected by vorticity and wind field;(4)the RFS was elevated as the absolute value of the gradient of vorticity increased,the IEB did not depend on the gradient of vorticity,and the eddy kinetic energy(EKE)weakened with the decrease of the absolute value of RFS;(5)the NIE decreased with increasing absolute value of the relative vorticity and the gradient of vorticity,but it increased with increasing strain and EKE when EKE was larger than 0.0032 m./s2.

Clim.te change is causing rapid and severe changes to m.ny Earth system. and processes,with widespread cryospheric,ecological,and hydrological im.acts globally,and especially in high northern *** is of m.jor societal concern and there is an urgent need for im.roved understanding and predictive tools for environm.ntal *** Changing Cold Regions Network(CCRN)is a Canadian research consortium.with a focus to integrate existing and new experim.ntal data with m.delling and rem.te sensing products to understand,diagnose,and predict changing land,water,and clim.te,and their interactions and feedbacks over the geographic dom.in of the m.ckenzie and Saskatchewan River Basins in *** network operates a set of 14 unique and focused Water,Ecosystem.Cryosphere and Clim.te(WECC)observatories within this region,which provide opportunities to observe and understand processes and their interaction,as well as develop and test num.rical sim.lation m.dels,and provide validation data for rem.te sensing *** paper describes this network and its observational,experim.ntal,and m.delling *** overview of m.ny of the recent Earth system.changes observed across the study region is provided,and som. local insights from.WECC observatories that m.y partly explain regional patterns and trends are *** of the m.del products being developed are discussed,and linkages with the local to international user com.unity are reviewed—In particular,the use of WECC data towards m.del and rem.te sensing product calibration and validation is *** future activities and prospects for the network are also presented at the end of the paper.

Pathological or traum.tic loss of teeth often results in the resorption and rem.deling of the affected alveoli in m.m.als. However, instances of alveolar rem.deling in reptiles are rare. A rem.deled alveolus in the m.xilla of the Chinese theropod Sinosaurus (Lower Jurassic Lower Lufeng Form.tion) is the first confirm.d exam.le of such dental pathology in a dinosaur. Given the known relationship between feeding behavior and tooth dam.ge in theropods (teeth with spalled enam.l, tooth crowns em.edded in bone) and the absence of dentary, m.xillary, and prem.xillary osteom.elitis, traum.tic loss of a tooth is m.st likely the cause of alveolar rem.deling. Based on the extent of rem.deling, the injury and subsequent tooth loss were non-fatal in this individual.
