Dear Editor,Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has been identified as a risk factor for increased severity in acute pancreatitis (AP)(Mikóet al,2018).However,to date,no studies have simultaneously included healthy individuals,T2DM patients,and AP patients to investigate which diabetes-associated metabolites are linked to AP severity.

A series of mononuclear complexes and unsymmetric dinuclear alkynylplatinum(II)terpyridine complexes with oligo(paraphenylene ethynylene)(OPE)-derived backbone with a variation of the lengths of alkoxy chains and OPE backbones was *** morphological properties,packing lattice and gelation behaviors of the mononuclear complexes were systematically studied,and the thermodynamic parameters and packing lattices of the dinuclear complexes were also investigated,providing further insights into the roles of the non-covalent interactions and their delicate balance in constructing sophisticated supramolecular *** and nanotube formation have been observed upon a delicate control of the intermolecular interactions by altering the lengths and structural dimensions of the complexes.

Background Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)is becoming a popular complementary approach in pediatric ***,few or no meta-analyses have focused on clinical studies of the use of TCM in pediatric *** We explored the patterns of TCM use and its efficacy in children with cancer,using a systematic review,meta-analysis and data mining *** strategy We conducted a search of five English(Allied and Complementary Medicine Database,Embase,PubMed,Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials,and ***)and four Chinese databases(Wanfang Data,China National Knowledge Infrastructure,Chinese Biomedical Literature Database,and VIP Chinese Science and Technology Periodicals Database)for clinical studies published before October 2021,using keywords related to“pediatric,”“cancer,”and“TCM.”Inclusion criteria We included studies which were randomized controlled trials(RCTs)or observational clinical studies,focused on patients aged<19 years old who had been diagnosed with cancer,and included at least one group of subjects receiving TCM *** extraction and analysis The methodological quality of RCTs and observational studies was assessed using the six-item Jadad scale and the Effective Public Healthcare Panacea Project Quality Assessment Tool,***-analysis was used to evaluate the efficacy of combining TCM with *** outcomes included the treatment response rate and occurrence of cancer-related *** rule mining(ARM)was used to investigate the associations among medicinal herbs and patient *** The fifty-four studies included in this analysis were comprised of RCTs(63.0%)and observational studies(37.0%).Most RCTs focused on hematological malignancies(41.2%).The study outcomes included chemotherapy-induced toxicities(76.5%),infection rate(35.3%),and response,survival or relapse rate(23.5%).The methodological quality of most of the RCTs(82.4%)and observational studies(80.0%)was r

It is well established that hydrogen has the potential to make a significant contribution to the world energy *** U.S.,majority of hydrogen production plants implement steam methane reforming(SMR) for centralized hydrogen ***,there is a wide lack of agreement on the nascent stage of using hydrogen as fuel in vehicles industry because of the difficulty in delivery and *** performing technological and economic analysis,this work aims to establish the most feasible hydrogen production pathway for automotives in near *** the evaluation,processes such as thermal cracking of ammonia and centralized hydrogen production followed by bulk delivery are eliminated while on-site steam reforming of methanol and natural gas are the most technologically feasible *** two processes are further evaluated by comprehensive economic *** results showed that the steam reforming(SR) of natural gas has a shorter payback time and a higher return on investment(ROI) and internal rate of return(IRR).Sensitivity analysis has also been constructed to evaluate the impact of variables like NG feedstock price,capital of investment and operating capacity factor on the overall production cost of *** on this study,natural gas is prompted to be the most economically and technologically available raw material for short-term hydrogen production before the transition to renewable energy source such as solar energy,biomass and wind power.

Answering Reachability Queries on Incrementally Updated Graphs by Hierarchical Labeling Schema

We proposed a novel solution schema called the Hierarchical Labeling Schema （HLS） to answer reachability queries in directed graphs. Different from many existing approaches that focus on static directed acyclic graphs （DAGs）, our schema focuses on directed cyclic graphs （DCGs） where vertices or arcs could be added to a graph incrementally. Unlike many of the traditional approaches, HLS does not require the graph to be acyclic in constructing its index. Therefore, it could, in fact, be applied to both DAGs and DCGs. When vertices or arcs are added to a graph, the HLS is capable of updating the index incrementally instead of re-computing the index from the scratch each time, making it more efficient than many other approaches in the practice. The basic idea of HLS is to create a tree for each vertex in a graph and link the trees together so that whenever two vertices are given, we can immediately know whether there is a path between them by referring to the appropriate trees. We conducted extensive experiments on both real-world datasets and synthesized datasets. We compared the performance of HLS, in terms of index construction time, query processing time and space consumption, with two state-of-the-art methodologies, the path-tree method and the 3-hop method. We also conducted simulations to model the situation when a graph is updated incrementally. The performance comparison of different algorithms against HLS on static graphs has also been studied. Our results show that HLS is highly competitive in the practice and is particularly useful in the cases where the graphs are updated frequently.

The ability to control mammalian cells such that they self-organize or enact therapeutic effects as desired has incredible *** only would it further our understanding of native processes such as development and the immune response,but it would also have powerful applications in medical fields such as regenerative medicine and *** control is typically obtained by synthetic circuits that use synthetic receptors,but control remains *** synthetic juxtacrine receptors(SJRs)are widely used as they are fully modular and enable spatial control,but they have limited gene expression amplification and temporal *** these are integral facets to cell control,I therefore designed transcription factor based amplifiers that amplify gene expression and enable unidirectional temporal control by prolonging duration of target gene *** a validated in silico framework for SJR signaling,I combined these amplifiers with SJRs and show that these SJR amplifier circuits can direct spatiotemporal patterning and improve the quality of self-organization.I then show that these circuits can improve chimeric antigen receptor(CAR)T cell tumor killing against various heterogenous antigen expression *** amplifiers are flexible tools that improve control over SJR based circuits with both basic and therapeutic applications.

Phase change memory

Phase change memory (PCM) is a non-volatile solid-state memory technology based on the large resistivity contrast between the amorphous and crystalline states in phase change materials. We present the physics behind this large resistivity contrast and describe how it is being exploited to create high density PCM. We address the challenges facing this technology, including the design of PCM cells, fabrication, device variability, thermal cross-talk and write disturb. We discuss the scalability, assess the performance, and examine the reliability of PCM including data retention, multi-bit storage and endurance.

Assessment of Sericin Biosorbent for Selective Dye Removal

The silk sericin is the main residue in silk production and it is found to be a low cost and efficient bio-sorbent. In this study, sericin was characterized with various techniques including SEM （scanning electron micro- scope）, XRD, N2 physisorption, FTIR （Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy） and XPS （X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy）. The nitrogen content of sericin was ca. 8.5 mmol.g-1 according to elemental analysis. Dye adsorption by sericin biosorbent was investigated with the acid yellow （AY）, methylene blue （MB） and copper （II） phthalocyanine-3,4＇4＂4＇＂-tetrasulfonic acid （CuPc） dyes from water. Sericin displayed large capacity for AY andCuPc adsorption with adsorption capacities of respectively 3.1 and 0.35 mmol.g-1, but it did not adsorbed methyl- ene blue dye. This selectivity is due to the basicity of amide groups in seriein biosorbents.
