Interactions between incident electromagnetic energy and matter are of critical importance for numerous civil and military applications such as photocatalysis,solar cells,optics,radar detection,communications,information processing and transport et *** mechanisms for such interactions in the microwave frequency mainly rely on dipole rotations and magnetic domain *** this study,we present the first report of the microwave absorption of Al/H2 treated TiO_(2) nanoparticles,where the A_(l)/H_(2) treatment not only induces structural and optical property changes,but also largely improves the microwave absorption performance of TiO_(2) ***,the frequency of the microwave absorption can be finely controlled with the treatment temperature,and the absorption efficiency can reach optimal values with a careful temperature tuning.A large reflection loss of58.02 dB has been demonstrated with 3.1mm TiO_(2) coating when the treating temperature is 700℃.The high efficiency of microwave absorption is most likely linked to the disordering-induced property changes in the *** with the increased microwave absorption properties are largely increased visiblelight and IR absorptions,and enhanced electrical conductivity and reduced skin-depth,which is likely related to the interfacial defects within the TiO_(2) nanoparticles caused by the Al/H2 treatment.

The variable high-order multiblock overlapping(overset)grids method of Sj¨ogreen&Yee[CiCP,Vol.5,2009]for a perfect gas has been extended to nonequilibrium *** work makes use of the recently developed high-order well-balanced shock-capturing schemes and their filter counterparts[Wang et al.,***.,2009,2010]that exactly preserve certain non-trivial steady state solutions of the chemical nonequilibrium governing *** turbulence with strong shocks and flows containing both steady and unsteady components is best treated by mixing of numerical methods and switching on the appropriate scheme in the appropriate subdomains of the flow fields,even under the multiblock grid or adaptive grid refinement *** low dissipative sixth-or higher-order shock-capturing filter methods are appropriate for unsteady turbulence with shocklets,second-and thirdorder shock-capturing methods are more effective for strong steady or nearly steady shocks in terms of *** is anticipated that our variable high-order overset grid framework capability with its highly modular design will allow for an optimum synthesis of these new algorithms in such a way that the most appropriate spatial discretizations can be tailored for each particular region of the *** this paper some of the latest developments in single block high-order filter schemes for chemical nonequilibrium flows are applied to overset grid *** numerical approach is validated on a number of test cases characterized by hypersonic conditions with strong shocks,including the reentry flow surrounding a 3D Apollo-like NASA Crew Exploration Vehicle that might contain mixed steady and unsteady components,depending on the flow conditions.

Effects of epinephrine on angiogenesis-related gene expressions in cultured rat cardiomyocytes

Epinephrine is often used for the treatment of patients with heart failure, low cardiac output and cardiac arrest. It can acutely improve hemodynamic parameters; however, it does not seem to improve longer term clinical outcomes. Therefore, we hypothesized that epinephrine may induce unfavorable changes in gene expression of cardiomyocyte. Thus, we investigated effects of epinephrine exposure on the mediation or modulation of gene expression of cultured cardiomyocytes at a genome-wide scale. Our investigation revealed that exposure of cardiomyocytes to epinephrine in an in vitro environment can up-regulate the expression ofangiopoietin-2 gene （~ 2.1 times）, and down-regulate the gene expression of neuregulin 1 （-3.7 times）, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 （-2.4 times） and SPARC-related modular calcium-binding protein-2 （-4.5 times）. These changes suggest that epinephrine exposure may induce inhibition of angiogenesis-related gene expressions in cultured rat cardiomyocytes. The precise clinical significance of these changes in gene expression, which was induced by epinephrine exposure, warrants further experimental and clinical investigations.

Toward a Phylogeny of the Kukri Snakes,Genus Oligodon

The South and Southeast Asian snake genus Oligodon, known for its egg-eating feeding behavior, has been a taxonomically and systematically challenging group. This work provides the first phylogenetic hypothesis for the genus. We use approximately 1900 base pairs of mitochondrial DNA sequence data to infer the relationships of these snakes, and we examine congruence between the phylogeny and hemipenial characters. A hypothesis for the position of Oligodon within the Colubridae is also proposed. We discuss the implications of the phylogeny for previous taxonomic groupings, and consider the usefulness of the trees in analysis of behavior and biogeography of this genus.

Improved estimation of PM_(2.5) brown carbon contributions to filter light attenuation

Multiwavelength light attenuation measurements have been acquired as part of thermal/optical carbon analysis in the *** Speciation Network(CSN)and the Interagency Monitoring of PROtected Visual Environments(IMPROVE)network beginning in *** are used to estimate PM_(2.5)brown carbon(BrC)contributions to light absorption at various wavelengths,a useful method for separating biomass burning contributions from other *** of light transmitted through the filter deviates from Beers Law as the mass of light absorbing materials *** study estimates the effects of these deviations with empirical adjustment factors applied to samples for CSN from 2016 to 2017 and for IMPROVE from 2016 to *** for the filter loading effect results in an annual average increase of∼6-7%BrC contribution to light attenuation:from 3.6%to 10.7%for the urban,more heavily loaded CSN samples;and from 23.7%to 29.5%for the non-urban IMPROVE *** alternative method is examined for BrC and black carbon(BC)adjustments by calculating the AbsorptionÅngström Exponent(AAE)for BC(i.e.,AAE_(BC))based on the ratios of 635 nm/780 nm light attenuation rather than assuming AAE_(BC)of *** paired-wavelength calculations result in a median AAE_(BC)of 0.76 for CSN and 0.8 for IMPROVE,with the majority of samples(i.e.,91%of CSN and 70%of IMPROVE)showing AAE_(BC)<*** assuming negligible contributions from BrC to AAE at longer wavelengths,the amount of light attenuation at shorter wavelengths(e.g.,405 nm)where BrC is dominant can be *** paired-wavelength method applied to the filter loading adjusted data has a greater effect on urban(fresh)than on non-urban(aged)aerosols,resulting in a factor of two increase in annual averaged BrC light attenuation(from 10.7%to 21.6%)for CSN and by a factor of 1.11(from 29.5%to 32.7%)for IMPROVE *** result demonstrates the importance of particle loading and AAE correction on quantifying BrC light attenuatio

Driver distraction has been deemed a major cause of traffic ***,drivers’brain response activities to different distraction types have not been well *** purpose of this study is to investigate the response of electroencephalography(EEG)activities to different distraction *** the conducted simulation tests,three secondary tasks(i.e.,a clock task,a 2-back task,and a navigation task)are designed to induce different types of driver ***-four participants are recruited for the designed tests,and differences in drivers’brain response activities concerning distraction types are *** results show that the differences in comprehensive distraction are more significant than that in single cognitive *** test and post hoc two-tailed Nemenyi test are conducted to further identify the differences in band activities among brain *** results show that the theta energy in the frontal lobe is significantly higher than that in other brain regions in distracted driving,whereas the alpha energy in the temporal lobe significantly decreases compared to other brain *** results provide theoretical references for the development of distraction detection systems based on EEG signals.

Highlights•This study explores features of professional learning community(PLC)models in the educational contexts in Bahrain and Oman.•Findings based on the case studies of PLCs in two private schools in Bahrain and Oman,and theoretical input from international PLC literature has implications for policy and practice.•Study recommends promoting PLC approaches in the Bahraini and Omani educational systems in pre-and in-service teacher training programs,adapting best international PLC practices to the specific educational contexts of Bahrain and Oman,preparing school principals to lead PLC in their schools,providing human and financial support to these communities,and making school cultures more collaborative.•This study highlights the importance of the PLC approach,expands the existing conceptual/analytical framework,demonstrates how this approach is being used in two schools,and encourages other practitioners and researchers to embrace PLC.
