Amis:To examine the relationship between arterial stiffness and ventricular structure and function in healthy *** and Results:Healthy women from the Twins UK cohort(n=147,mean ± SD age 54.1 ±11.9 years) were *** stiffness was evaluated by carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity(cf-PWV).Left ventricular(LV) structure and function were assessed by two dimensional speckle tracking ***-PWV was significantly associated with most measures of LV geometry and function,including relative wall thickness(RWT),global circumferential and radial strain,apical rotation and LV twist(each pjustment for age,body mass index,blood pressure and heart rate,cf-PWV was significantly correlated with RWT,global circumferential strain,apical rotation and LV twist(β=0.011,)0.484,1.167 and 1.089,respectively,each p < 0.05).Conclusion:In healthy women with a low burden of risk factors,increased aortic stiffening is associated with LV thickening and increased LV twist Increased LV twist may be an early ventricular adaptation to increased arterial stiffening.

目的研究旅英华人和当地白人血管内皮功能有无差异。方法选取年龄、性别相似的旅英华人和当地白人各40名(男女各20名),检测体质量、身高、腰围、血压、血脂、血糖、血流介导的内皮依赖性血管舒张功能(FMD)等,比较两组检测结果,并分析心血管危险因素、种族与FMD的相关性。结果旅英华人的舒张压、FMD较当地白人高[舒张压(80.2±9.1)比(75.1±11.3)mmHg;FMD(6.76±2.95)%比(5.52±2.13)%,均P<0.05],体质量、腰围、体质量指数(BMI)较当地白人低[体质量(65.4±10.9)比(74.3±12.4)kg;腰围(82.2±8.1)比(89.4±10.9)cm;BMI(23.5±2.3)比(24.8±3.2)kg/m2;均P<0.05]。旅英华人饮食以中餐为主,占80%,白人则全以西餐为主。种族因素、饮食习惯与FMD相关(偏回归系数分别为-1.232、1.555,均P<0.05)。结论旅英华人的血管内皮功能优于当地白人,可能与种族因素、饮食习惯相关。

Three-dimensional tracks provide unique insights into the locomotor mechanics of their track makers. An isolated, large hadrosauriform print attributable to Caririchnium lotus from the ＂mid＂-Cretaceous Lotus track site （jiaguan Formation） in China permits reconstruction of the footfall, weight-bearing, and kick-off phases of the step cycle. Large-scale modifications of the pes during the step cycle indicate C. lotus trackmakers were capable of locomotory modifications in response to substrate consistency beyond the ＂expected＂ shift between bipedal and quadrupedal postures. An unusual curvature to the trace of one of the outer digits indicates substantial transverse mobility. The remaining digits demonstrate lesser degrees of transverse movement accompanied by extension of the digits during footfall. The absence of overprinted scale-scratch marks and toe drags are consistent with a vertical kick-off of the pes and concomitant flexion of the digits. This track suggests that pedal mobility in C. lotus track makers was greater than previously suspected and has implications for reconstructions of hadrosauriform locomotion.

Understanding abiotic stress responses is one of the most important issues in plant research nowadays. Abiotic stress, including excess light, can promote the onset of oxidative stress through the accumulation of reactive oxygen species. Oxidative stress also arises when in vitro propagated plants are exposed to high light upon transfer to ex vitro. To determine whether the underlying pathways activated at the transfer of in vitro grapevine to ex vitro conditions reflect the processes occurring upon light stress, we used Vitis vinifera Affymetrix GeneChip （VvGA） and a custom array of genes responsive to light stress （LSCA） detected by real-time reverse transcriptase PCR （qRT-PCR）. When gene-expression profiles were compared, ＇protein metabolism and modification＇, ＇signaling＇, and ＇anti-oxidative＂ genes were more represented in LSCA, while, in VvGA, ＇cell wall metabolism＇ and ＇secondary metabolism＇ were the categories in which gene expression varied more significantly. The above functional categories confirm previous studies involving other types of abiotic stresses, enhancing the common attributes of abiotic stress defense pathways. The LSCA analysis of our experimental system detected strong response of heat shock genes, particularly the protein rescuing mechanism involving the cooperation of two ATP-dependent chaperone systems, Hsp100 and Hsp70, which showed an unusually late response during the recovery period, of extreme relevance to remove non-functional, potentially harmful polypeptides arising from misfolding, denaturation, or aggregation brought about by stress. The success of LSCA also proves the feasibility of a custommade qRT-PCR approach, particularly for species for which no GeneChip is available and for researchers dealing with a specific and focused problem.

Attribution of explanatory factors for change in soil organic carbon density in the native grasslands of Inner Mongolia,China

The variation in soil organic carbon density（SOCD） has been widely documented at various spatial and temporal scales. However, an accurate method for examining the attribution of explanatory factors for change in SOCD is still lacking. This study aims to attribute and quantify the key climatic factors, anthropogenic activities, and soil properties associated with SOCD change in the native grasslands of Inner Mongolia, China, by comparing data between the 1960s and the 2010s. In 2007 and 2011, we resampled 142 soil profiles which were originally sampled during 1963–1964 in the native grasslands of Inner Mongolia. SOCD was determined in A horizon（eluvial horizon） of the soil. We selected the explanatory factors based on a random forest method, and explored the relationships between SOCD change and each of the explanatory factors using a linear mixed model. Our results indicated that the change in SOCD varied from the east to the west of Inner Mongolia, and SOCD was 18% lower in the 2010s than in the 1960s. The lower SOCD in the 2010s may primarily be attributed to the increasing in mean annual water surface evaporation, which explained approximately 10% and 50% of the total variation and explainable variation in the change in SOCD, respectively. The sand content of the soil is also a significant explanatory factor for the decrease in SOCD, which explained about 4% and 21% of the total variation and explainable variation in the change in SOCD, respectively. Furthermore, the collection of quantitative information on grazing frequency and duration may also help to improve our understanding of the anthropogenic factors that govern the change in SOCD.

The integration of chemical insecticides and infective juveniles of the entomopathogenic nematode Steinernema carpocapsae （Wesier）（Nematoda： Steinernematidae）, to control second instars of the sweetpotato whitefly, Bemisia tabaci Gennadius （Hemiptera： Aleyrodidae） was investigated. Using a sand bioassay, the effects of direct exposure of S. carpocapsae for 24 h to field rate dilutions of four insecticides （spiromesifen, thiacloprid, imidacloprid and pymetrozine） on infectivity to Galleria mellonella larvae were tested. Although all chemicals tested, except spiromesifen, produced acceptable nematode infectivity rates, they were all significantly less than the water control. The effect of insecticide treatment （dry residues of spiromesifen, thiacloprid and pymetrozine and soil drench of imidacloprid） on the efficacy of the nematode against B. tabaci was also investigated. Nematodes in combination with thiacloprid and spiromesifen gave higher B. tabaci mortality （86.5% and 94.3% respectively） compared to using nematodes alone （75.2%） on tomato plants. There was no significant difference in B. tabaci mortality when using the chemicals imidacloprid, pymetrozine and spiromesifen in conjunction with nematodes compared to using the chemicals alone. However, using thiacloprid in combination with the nematodes produced significantly higher B. tabaci mortality than using the chemical alone. The integration of S. carpocapsae and these chemical agents into current integrated pest management programmes for the control of B. tabaci is discussed.

Pathological or traumatic loss of teeth often results in the resorption and remodeling of the affected alveoli in mammals. However, instances of alveolar remodeling in reptiles are rare. A remodeled alveolus in the maxilla of the Chinese theropod Sinosaurus (Lower jurassic Lower Lufeng Formation) is the first confirmed example of such dental pathology in a dinosaur. Given the known relationship between feeding behavior and tooth damage in theropods (teeth with spalled enamel, tooth crowns embedded in bone) and the absence of dentary, maxillary, and premaxillary osteomyelitis, traumatic loss of a tooth is most likely the cause of alveolar remodeling. Based on the extent of remodeling, the injury and subsequent tooth loss were non-fatal in this individual.

目的探讨超声在血管内皮功能研究中的应用价值。方法选取年龄、性别匹配的旅英华人和当地白人各40名,检测体重、腰围、体重指数(BMI)、血压、血脂、血糖,并采用超声检测血流介导的肱动脉内径扩张值(FMD),对两组检测结果进行比较,并分析心血管危险因素、种族与FMD值的相关性。结果华人组的舒张压、FMD值较白人组高(P<0.05),体重、腰围、BMI较当地白人组低(P<0.01,P<0.05),种族因素与FMD值具有相关性。结论超声检测FMD值法是一种无创、可靠、简便易行的检测血管内皮功能的方法。规范检查方法是保证检查质量的关键。
