AIM: To examine the accuracy of the aspartate aminotransferase (AST)/platelet ratio Index (AprI) and FIB-4, in predicting longitudinal changes in liver histology in hepatitis C virus (HCV) ***: patients that underwent r.peat liver biopsies at least 1 year apart from 1999 to 2007 were identified. Liver fibrosis was staged on needle core biopsies evaluated by a single expert liver.pathologist. Only laboratory values within 3 mo of the liver biopsies were ***: Thirty-six patients met the inclusion criteria with 50% stage 1 on initial biopsy, 25% stage 2, and 22% stage 3. Nineteen of 36 (53%) had progression of fibrosis on r.peat biopsies, while 16 (44%) showed no change in stage, and one (3%) showed improvement. patients that showed progression of fibrosis had significantly higher alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase levels than the group that did not show progression. A significant correlation was seen between change in stage of fibrosis and change in AprI (r2 = 0.39, p = 0.00001) and a change in FIB-4 (r2 = 0.31, p = 0.00004). A change in AprI (ΔAprI) of 0.18 had 80% positive predictive value (ppV) and 67% nega- tive predictive value (NpV) for.progression of fibrosis. A change in FIB-4 (ΔFIB-4) of 0.39 had 75% ppV and 75% NpV for.predicting progression of fibrosis. CONCLUSION: ΔAprI and ΔFIB-4 parallel changes in fibrosis progression, and could be useful tools for clinicians in following patients with active chronic HCV infection.

AIM:Cytokine release by macr.phages critically determines the type of immune response to an ***,we studied hepatitis C virus(HCV)-specific induction of interleukins-1β,-10,-12(IL-1β,IL-10,IL-12),and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α)in monocytes. METHODS:Intracallular cytokine expression was studied by flow cytometry in 23 patients with chronic hepatitis C,14 anti-HCV ser.positives without viremia and 11 controls after stimulation of per.pheral blood mononuclear calls with recombinant core,NS3,NS4,NSSa and NSSb proteins. rESULTS:patients with HCV viremia revealed greater spontaneous expression of IL-1β,TNF-α,and IL-10. Furthermore,greater than twofold higher IL-10 expression was induced by the HCV antigens in chronic hepatitis C than in the other two groups(prast,neither IL- 12 nor TNF-α was induced preferentially. CONCLUSION:In chronic hepatitis C antigen-specific cytokine induction in monocytes is apparently shifted towards predominant IL-10 induction-not counterbalanced by antiviral type 1 *** may contribute to persistent viral r.plication.

AIM To determine lipid species that change in response to a change in dairy consumption. In addition, to investigate whether dairy associated lipid species are correlated with changes in measures of vascular structure and *** A 12-mo randomised controlled trial was conducted to determine the effect of increased consumption of fruit, vegetables and dairy, compared to usual diet, on measures of vascular structure and function in adults with type 1 and type 2 diabetes(n = 108). Thispaper comprises post-hoc analyses investigating the relationship between dairy intake, serum lipid species and vascular health. Central and per.pheral blood pressure, carotid femoral pulse wave velocity, augmentation index, serum lipid species and dietary intake were measured at baseline and 3-mo. The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

AIM To evaluate whether implant design, glenoid positioning, and other factors influenced instability and scapular notching in reverse total shoulder *** We retrospectively reviewed records of patients who had undergone reverse total shoulder arthr.plasty by the senior author from July 2004 through October 2011 and who had at least 24 mo of follow-up. The 58 patients who met the criteria had 65 arthr.plasties: 18 with a Grammont-type prosthesis(Grammont group) and 47 with a lateral-based prosthesis(lateral-design group). We compared the groups by rates of scapular notching and instability and by radiogr.phic markers of glenoid position and tilt. We also compared glenoid sphere sizes and the number of subscapularis tendon r.pairs between the groups. rates were compared using the Fisher exact test. Notching severity distribution was compared using the χ2 test of association. Significance was set at p rammont group had a higher incidence of scapular notching(13 of 18; 72%) than the lateral-design group(11 of 47; 23%)(p r incidence of instability(3 of 18; 17%) than the lateral-design group(0 of 47; 0%)(p = 0.019). Glenoid position, glenoid sphere size, and subscapularis tendon r.pair were not predictive of scapular notching or instability, independent of implantdesign. With the lateral-based prosthesis, each degree of inferior tilt of the baseplate was associated with a 7.3% reduction in the odds of developing notching(odds ratio 0.937, 95%CI: 0.894-0.983). CONCLUSION The lateral-based prosthesis was associated with less instability and notching compared with the Grammonttype prosthesis. prosthesis design appears to be more important than glenoid positioning.
