Objective:Leptin(LEP)is an obesity-associated adipokine associated with tumor cell *** examined the relevance of genetic variants of LEP and leptin receptor(LEPR)to colorectal cancer(CRC)survival by using data from the Newfoundland Familial Colorectal Cancer ***:A total of 532 patients newly diagnosed with CRC between 1997 and 2003 were followed up until April *** on their demographics and lifestyles were collected via *** of blood samples was performed with the Illumina Human Omni-Quad Bead *** Cox models were used to assess the relationships of 35 tag single-nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)in LEP and LEPR with overall survival(OS),disease-free survival(DFS),and CRC-specific ***:At the gene level,LEP was associated with DFS(P=0.017),and LEPR was associated with both DFS(P=0.021)and CRCspecific survival(P=0.013)in patients with *** single-SNP analysis,LEP rs11763517,LEPR rs9436301,and LEPR rs7602 were associated with DFS after adjustment for multiple *** LEPR haplotypes G-C-t(rs7534511-rs9436301-rs1887285)and A-A-G(rs7602-rs970467-rs9436748)were associated with prolonged OS among patients with CRC overall(G-C-t:HR,0.63;95%CI,0.43–0.93;A-A-G:HR,0.59;95%CI,0.38–0.91)and those diagnosed with colon cancer(G-C-t:HR,0.54;95%CI,0.34–0.86;A-A-G:HR,0.49;95%CI,0.29–0.83).Similar results were observed for ***,significant interactions were found among LEPR rs7602(A vs.G),LEPR rs1171278(t vs.C),red meat intake,and BMI status:the associations between these variants and prolonged DFS were limited to patients with below-median red meat consumption and body mass index(BMI)tions in the LEP and LEPR genes were associated with survival of patients after CRC *** LEP/LEPR-CRC survival association was modified by participants’red meat intake and BMI.

Comparison of different lymph node staging systems in prognosis of gastric cancer:a bi-institutional study from Hungary

Objective： the Union for International Cancer Control （UICC） Node （N） classification is the most common used staging method for the prognosis of gastric cancer. It demands adequate, at least 16 lymph nodes （LNs） to be dissected; therefore different staging systems were invented. Methods： Between march 2005 and march 2010, 164 patients were evaluated at the Department of General Surgery in the Ken^zy Gyula Hospital and at the Department of General, thoracic and Vascular Surgery in the Kaposi M6r Hospital. the 6th, 7th and 8th UICC N-staging systems, the number of examined LNs, the number of harvested negative LNs, the metastatic lymph node ratio （MLR） and the log odds of positive LNs （LODDS） were determined to measure their 5-year survival rates and to compare them to each other. Results： the overall 5year survival rate for all patients was 55.5% with a median overall survival time of 102 months. the tumor stage, gender, UICC N-stages, MLR and the LODDS were significant prognostic factors for the 5-year survival with univariate analysis. the 6th UICC N-stage did not follow the adequate risk in comparing N2 vs. NO and N3 vs. NO with multivariate investigation. Comparison of performances of the residual N classifications proved that the LODDS system was first in the prediction of prognosis during the evaluation of all patients and in cases with less than 16 harvested LNs. the MLR gave the best prognostic prediction when adequate （more than or equal to 16） lymphadenectomy was performed. Conclusions： We suggest the application of LODDS system routinely in western patients and the usage of MLR classification in cases with extended lymphadenectomy.

AIM to investigate the total blood loss(tBL) and the safety with respect to the re-amputation rate after transtibial amputation(ttA) conducted with and without a tourniquet. MEtHODS the study was a single-centre retrospective cohort study of patients with a primary ttA admitted between January 2013 and April 2015. All patients with a primary ttA were assessed for inclusion if the amputation was performed because of arteriosclerosis or diabetic complications. All patients underwent a standardized ttA procedure that was performed approximately 10 cm below the knee joint and performed with sagittalflaps. the pneumatic tourniquet, when used, was inflated around the femur to a pressure of 100 mmH g above the systolic blood pressure. the number of blood transfusions within the first four postoperative days was recorded. the intraoperative blood loss(OBL), which is defined as the volume of blood lost during surgery, was determined from the suction volume and by the weight difference of the surgical dressings. the trigger for a blood transfusion was set at a decrease in the Hgb level transfusions were performed with pooled red blood cells containing 245 m L per portion, which equals 55 g/L of haemoglobin. the tBL during the first four postoperative days was calculated based on the haemoglobin level and the estimated blood volume. the re-amputation rate was evaluated within 30 d. RESULtS Seventy-four out of 86 consecutive patients who underwent ttA within the two-year study period were included in the analysis. Of these, 38 were operated on using a tourniquet and 36 were operated on without using a tourniquet. there were no significant preoperative differences between the groups. the patients in both groups had a postoperative decrease in their Hgb level compared with preoperative baseline values. the patients operated on using a tourniquet received approximately three millilitres less blood transfusion per kilogram body weight compared with patients o

Acute Effect of High-Intensity Climbing on Performance and Muscle Oxygenation in Elite Climbers

High-intensity training(HIt)is known to have deteriorating effects on performance which manifest in various physiological changes such as lowered force production and oxidative ***,the effect of HIt in climbing on finger flexor performance has not been investigated ***-one climbers partook in an intervention study with three assessment time points:pre-HIt,post-HIt,and 24-h *** HIt involved four five-minute exhaustive climbing *** climbers were assigned to a control *** consisted of three finger flexor tests:maximum voluntary contraction(MVC),sustained contraction(SCt),and intermittent contraction tests(ICt).During the SCt muscle oxygenation(SmO_(2))metrics were collected via NIRS sensors on the *** HIt had significant deteriorating effects on all force production metrics(MVC−18%,SCt−55%,ICt−59%).Post-24 h showed significant recovery,which was less pronounced for the endurance tests(MVC−3%,SCt−16%,ICt−22%).SmO_(2)metrics provided similar results for the SCt with medium to large effect *** attainable SmO_(2)and resting SmO_(2)both showed moderate negative correlations with pre-HIt force production respectively;r=−0.41,P=0.102;r=−0.361,P=0.154.A strong association was found between a loss of force production and change in minimally attainable SmO_(2)(r=−0.734,P=0.016).this study presents novel findings on the deteriorating effects of HIt on finger flexor performance and their oxidative ***,the divergent results between strength and endurance tests should be of interest to coaches and athletes when assessing athlete readiness.

Background:Over the last 25 years,the prominent forest certification system established by the Forest Stewardship Council(FSC)has used by many companies worldwide for claiming responsible forest *** objectives of the Russian National FSC standard to decrease the size of clearcuts and the retention of forest elements such as residual seed trees need on-site validation to proof the effectiveness of *** assess the ecological impacts of harvesting practices and benefits of FSC certification,we geospatially compared logging activities with and without FSC *** a sample area covering approximately 3,000 km^(2) in the east of the Russian Arkhangelsk Region,we used available data on tree cover loss and satellite images to assess secondary impacts of clearcuttings on adjacent remnant forests and to quantify the logging ***,the size and structure as well as the density of skidding trails of ten specific clearcuttings located within the sample area were surveyed using satellite images and in the field observation to delineate the boundaries of clearcuts and forested remnants within the ***:We found a significant increase of small-scale tree cover loss in the proximity of the *** dieback is possibly linked to the scale and intensity of logging in the *** the investigated clearcuts,FSC failed to reduce the size,to increase the retention of forest remnants including seed trees on logged areas,and to maintain larger tracts of undisturbed ground and soil compared to clearcuts that were logged before they received ***:trees and forest remnants remaining inside an increasingly stressed forest ecosystem matrix may not resist further harvesting-related and climate change-induced stresses and ***-scale clearcuttings seem to have negative impacts even in adjacent forests and undermine the ecological effectiveness of FSC certification in the study *** Russi

通过慢病毒介导的短发夹RNA对成纤维细胞的转化生长因子β(tGF-β)信号通路进行干扰,采用双光子荧光显微成像技术并结合基于细胞-细胞外基质三维系统的图像信息学方法,研究了植于多孔胶原蛋白支架中成纤维细胞分化过程的tGF-β信号通路.结果表明,在介导成纤维细胞分化的过程中,生长因子tGF-β1比tGF-β3发挥的作用更大,在tGF-β1介导的成纤维细胞分化过程中,蛋白SmaD1和SmaD3通过不同方式也发挥了重要作用.所得结果与通过生化或遗传学方法的结果相吻合.

Effect of Ionic Content in Semiconductive Shield materials on Breakdown Characteristics of tree Retardant XLPE Power Cable

Cable made with Dow HFDA-0587 BK,HFDB-4202 EC, and HFDA-0693 BK was found to meet DL/t 1070-2007 requirement of tree retardant XLPE(tR-XLPE) power cable. the alternate-current breakdown(ACBD) value after 360 days of accelerated water treeing test(AWtt) was 29 kV/mm, which exceeds the DL/t 1070-2007 requirement of at least 20 kV/mm. Cable made with semiconductive shield materials from other material suppliers and HFDB-4202 EC, however, failed to meet DL/t 1070-2007 requirement of at least 20 kV/mm after 360 days of AWtt. this failure to meet DL/t 1070-2007 requirement, apparently, was caused by the high content of ionic contaminants and ash levels in the semiconductive shield materials. the results in this report suggest the use of clean semiconductive shield materials is necessary,in conjunction with tree retardant insulation material, for cables to meet the higher performance tR-XLPE DL/t 1070-2007 requirement, which will enhance system reliability by extending cable life, while lowering life cycle costs

Background:We aimed to evaluate the medium-term efficacy of sleeve gastrectomy(SG)***-en-Y gastric bypass(RYGB)on remission of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(t2DM).Methods:We identified severely obese patients[body mass index(BMI)>35 kg/m^(2)]with NAFLD(as defined by the Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery Study)and t2DM(as defined by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and the American College of Endocrinology)who underwent SG or RYGB in a single university surgical *** cohorts were match-paired and data were analysed after at least 3 years of follow *** key outcomes measured were:(I)the improvement of liver function tests and NAFLD markers;(II)glycemic control and insulin ***:Ninety-six patients were investigated;44(45.8%)were *** mean pre-operative BMI was 45.2 kg/m2 in the SG and 42.0 kg/m^(2) in the RYGB *** and RYGB both significantly reduced serum liver enzyme *** markers resolved 2 years after SG in all *** contrast,only 78%and 80%of patients achieved remission of NAFLD 2 and 3 years after RYBG *** procedures resulted in comparable rates of remission of ***:Bariatric surgery with SG may be preferable to RYGB for obese patients with NAFLD and t2DM based on the rates of remission of markers of these ***,our results need to be confirmed in prospective *** the metabolic effects of specific bariatric surgical procedures may facilitate the development of a personalised approach to weight-loss surgery.
