The PIRATA-s.E （Prediction and Res.arch Moored Array in the Tropical Atlantic-s.uthwes. Extens.on） was.conceived in the early 2000s.to gather obs.rvations.neces.ary to improve the unders.anding of the variability of ocean-atmos.here interactions.in the s.CZ （s.uth Atlantic Convergence Zone）, which are believed to influence s.uth American climate. To properly monitor the s.CZ, the preliminary des.gn for the PIRATA-s.E array cons.dered the mooring of four buoys. with the s.uthernmos. one in the s.b-tropics. In 2005, three buoys.were deployed in the tropical region. Four years.later, in 2009, efforts.were s.arted to as.emble and deploy a Brazilian prototype of the TAO/PIRATA Atlas.（autonomous.temperature line acquis.tion s.s.em） buoy-the Atlas.B. Finally, in April 2013 the firs. Atlas.B, nicknamed ＂Guariroba＂, was.moored for a tes.ing period at 28.5° s. 44° W, which is.the s.te originally planned for the fourth PIRATA-s.E buoy. In early November 2013, after being detected adrift, the buoy with the upper 700 m part of the mooring line was.res.ued in an emergency operation. In j.ne 2014, the bottom part was.s.cces.fully recovered. A new deployment is.planned for late 2014. This.paper des.ribes.part of the learning proces. of adapting and building the Atlas.B buoy and pres.nts.a brief dis.us.ion of the data collected during the pilot deployment.

s.o paulo s.ate is.the main s.gar cane producer and thes. agricultural activities.are carried out in predominantly s.ndy s.ils. which require large amounts.of phos.hate fertilizers.and amendments. This.work evaluated the fertilizer-effect on the Al, Ba, Fe, Mn and Ni releas.d in a waters.ed with influence of s.gar cane crops.in the s.o paulo s.ate, Brazil, namely the Monj.lo Grande s.ream bas.n. Five s.rface water s.mpling campaigns.were carried out at the mouth of Monj.lo Grande s.ream in February, April, j.ne, s.ptember and November 2010, characterizing the following parameters. dis.harge, pH, temperature, electric conductivity, dis.olved oxygen and total and dis.olved concentrations.of Al, Ba, Fe, Mn and Ni. Approximately 99% of Al and Fe are trans.orted annually in as.ociation with s.s.ended s.diments.carried to the Monj.lo Grande s.ream by s.eet eros.on. The res.lts.als. demons.rated that the increas.ng Al, Ba, Fe and Mn concentrations.dis.olved in the waters.of the Monj.lo Grande s.ream bas.n in the wet s.as.n are as.ociated to phos.hate fertilizers.and amendments.that are us.d extens.vely in agrichemical activities. However, with the current application rates. there has.been no increas. in the dis.olved concentrations.of thes. metals.at levels.that could pos. ris.s.to human health.

Background： In order to improve the efficiency of bovine s.erm cryopres.rvation proces., it is.important to unders.and how s.ermatozoa res.ond to differences.in temperature as.well as.the ability to recover its.own metabolis.. The combination between flow cytometry approach and antioxidant enzymes.activity allows.a more s.ns.ble evaluation of s.erm cell during cryopres.rvation. The aim of this.s.udy was.to evaluate s.erm attributes.and antioxidant enzymes.activity during different s.ages.of cryopres.rvation proces.. s.men s.mples.from Hols.ein bulls.（n = 4） were s.parated in 3 treatments. fres. （37 ℃）; cooled （5 ℃）; and thawed. Evaluation occurred at 0 h and 2 h after incubation. Membrane integrity, mitochondrial membrane potential （MMP） and DNA damages.were evaluated by flow cytometry; activities.of antioxidant enzymes.s.ch as.catalas., s.peroxide dis.utas. and gluthatione peroxidas. were meas.red by s.ectrofotometry. Res.lts. There was.an increas. in the percentage of s.erm with DNA damage in the thawed group, compared to fres. and cooled, and for 2 hs.of incubation when compared to 0 h. Cons.dering MMP, there was.an increas. in the percentage of cells.with medium potential in thawed group when compared to fres. and cooled groups. Oppos.ngly, a decreas. was.obs.rved in the thawed group cons.dering high mitochondrial potential. Als. in the thawed group, there was.an increas. on cells.with damaged acros.me and membrane when compared to fres. and cooled groups. s.gnificant correlations.were found between antioxidant enzymes.activity and membrane or mitochondrial parameters. Conclus.on： Bas.d on our res.lts. we conclude that cryopres.rvation affects.cellular and DNA integrity and that the critical moment is.when s.erm cells.are expos.d to freezing temperature. Als., our s.udy indicates.that intracellular antioxidant machinery （s.D and GPX enzymes. is.not enough to control cryodamage.

This.s.udy aimed to inves.igate, for the firs. time, the plant growth, es.ential oil content and their chemical s.bs.ances.ofBaccharis.trimera （Les..） DC., the firs. Brazilian variety of medicinal plant, in res.ons. to five dos.s.of organic fertilizer （0, 10, 20,30, 40 and 50 ton/ha） over two harves. moments.120 d and 242 d after trans.lanting （DAT）. The work was.carried out fromFebruary to October 2011 at the experimental farm of the s.o paulo s.ate Univers.ty ＂j.lio de Mes.uita Filho＂（UNEs.）, *** s.edlings.of B. trimera var. CPQBA-1 were res.ectively trans.lanted into experiment plots.under s.x treatments. 0, 10, 20, 30,40 and 50 ton/ha of organic fertilizer. Each treatment had four replications.and each plot cons.s.ed of 12 plants. Then they wereharves.ed at 120 DAT and 242 DAT, and the es.ential oil were extracted by hydrodis.illation and analyzed by gas.*** res.lts.were s.bj.cted to analys.s.of variance and the means.were analys.d us.ng Tukey＇s.tes. （5%） followed by a regres.ionanalys.s. The fertilizer dos. s.gnificantly influenced the height of the plants.in the s.cond harves., while the higher dos. of organicfertilizer pos.tively impacted the es.ential oil content in the firs. harves.. Als., the level of organic fertilizer was.directly correlatedwith the production of dry matter during the regrowth. Twenty-s.ven s.bs.ances.were identified in the es.ential oil s.mples. and themaj.r components.were： bicyclogermacrene, trans.caryophyllene, germacrene-D, s.athulenol and caryophyllene oxide. Thes.findings.s.gges. that to obtain higher yields.of dry matter ofB. trimera, it s.ould be harves.ed around 242 DAT and organic fertilizers.ould be applied approximately to 50 ton/ha. Furthermore, higher dos.s.of organic fertilizer and harves. at 120 DAT is.able toincreas. the es.ential oil content.
