Symmetry of biological structures can be thought as the repetition of their parts in different positions and orientations. Asymmetry analyses, therefore, focuses on identifying and measuring the location and extent of symmetry departures in such structures. In the context of geometric morphometrics, a key step when studying morphological variation is the estimation of the symmetric shape. The standard procedure uses the least-squares Procrustes superimposition, which by averaging shape differences often underestimates the symmetry departures thus leading to an inaccurate description of the asymmetry pattern. Moreover, the corresponding asymmetry values are neither geometrically intuitive nor visually perceivable. Methods： In this work, a resistant method for landmark-based asymmetry analysis of individual bilateral symmetric structures in 2D is introduced. A geometrical derivation of this new approach is offered, while its advantages in comparison with the standard method are examined and discussed through a few illustrative examples. Results： Experimental tests on both artificial and real data show that asymmetry is more effectively measured by using the resistant method because the underlying symmetric shape is better estimated. Therefore, the most asymmetric （respectively symmetric） landmarks are better determined through their large （respectively small） residuals. The percentage of asymmetry that is accounted for by each landmark is an additional revealing measure the new method offers which agrees with the displayed results while helping in their biological interpretation. Conclusions： The resistant method is a useful exploratory tool for analyzing shape asymmetry in 2D, and it might be the preferable method whenever a non homogeneous deformation of bilateral symmetric structures is possible. 字幕翻译有助于扩大电影受众面并将其推广至不同文化地区。作为一种新型翻译,字幕翻译在过去一百年来随着中西方电影的发展而不断壮大。对于字幕翻译的策略和方法,不同的学者观点不尽相同,但他们有一个共识,即字幕长度和时间条的限制增加了其翻译难度。本文是有关中国电影《大鱼海棠》英西字幕翻译的一个个案研究,这项三语对比研究旨在从语言以及具体目的语文化对字幕翻译的影响考察中文电影字幕翻译到英西两种文字的主要难点,以及转换过程中难点的主要差异,从而为汉英西字幕翻译提供对策建。本文的对比分析中主要借鉴了两个理论资源:尤金·A·奈达的功能对等理论和劳伦斯·韦努蒂的异化策略。奈达的理论强调目标语受众的反应,他认为翻译应使目标语受众和源语受众的理解一致。奈达认为好的翻译应该融入目标语受众的文化和语言,因此他的理论被认为是读者导向型的。而韦努蒂反对这种观点,并将之列为一种归化策略。韦努蒂主张异化翻译策略。他认为翻译的前提是语言间的差异,这些差异不能在翻译过程中抹去。异化作为一种保持源语语言特征的翻译策略,有助于凸显源于文本的语言和文化特征。本文基于这两种理论视角,从语言和文化两个层面对电影《大鱼海棠》的英西字幕翻译进行了分析,同时研究了源语和两种目标语在词法和句法上的差异,以及源语的文化负载词在目标语文化中的转换方法,进而管窥汉英西影视字幕的处理机制。研究发现,文化负载词在两个目标文本中都有明显灵活变通处理的,只是两个版本所体现的方法和表现程度各有不同:英语字幕侧重保留中国语言和文化的痕迹,因此改动较少。相反,西语字幕则更更注重向目标语文化靠拢,因而更加体现了奈达的翻译理论主张,而英语字幕更接近韦努蒂的异化策略。根据上述的考察,本研究总结了成功翻译影视字幕值得关注的几条注意事项:1)在字幕长度和时间条的限制下,字幕翻译需要易于阅读;2)可以省略多余或不相关的信息;3)翻译策略要按照目标受众来选择。在此基础上,笔者建议相关译员根据这些规律灵活运用浓缩、删除、中和等翻译方法、处理翻译难点。这些探索对影视字幕翻译的学术研究也具有一定的启发价值。

Laurel forests are quite relevant for biodiversity conservation and are among the island ecosystems most severely damaged by human *** the past,Canary laurel forests have been greatly altered by logging,livestock and *** remains of laurel forests are currently protected in the Canary Islands(Spain).However,we miss basic information needed for their restoration and adaptive management,such as tree longevity,growth potential and responsiveness to natural and anthropogenic *** dendrochronological methods,we studied how forest dynamic is related to land-use change and windstorms in two well-preserved laurel forests on Tenerife *** cores were collected from over 80 trees per stand at three stands per *** used ring-width series to estimate tree ages and calculate annual basal area increments(BAI),cumulative diameter increases,and changes indicative of released and suppressed *** tree species were found in all stands,with Laurus novocanariensis,Ilex canariensis and Morella faya being the most common *** some individuals were over 100 years old,61.8%-88.9% of the trees per stand established between 1940 and 1970,coinciding with a post-war period of land abandonment,rural exodus and the onset of a tourism *** trees have shown growth rates larger than 1 cm diameter per year and most species have had increasing BAI trends over the past *** growth releases occurred after windstorms at both sites,but the effects of windstorms were site-dependent,with the 1958 storm affecting mainly the eastern tip of the island(Anaga massif)and the 1991 storm the western tip(Teno massif).Given the great ability of laurel forest trees to establish after land use cessation and to increase growth after local disturbances such as windstorms,passive restoration may be sufficient to regenerate this habitat in currently degraded areas.

B-Glucosidases (BGL)-widely used in the enological field-are enzymes that catalyze the liberation of aromatic volatiles from their glycosidic precursors during winemaking. In the present study, a BGL obtained from the Antarctic yeast Mrakia sp. LP 7.1.2016 was produced on a bioreactor scale, purified, characterized, and the enzyme's properties studied for a potential enological application. Sodium-dodecylsulfate-polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis indicated a high molecular weight for this enzyme, it having at least two subunits of 134 and 14 kDa. BGL exhibited a pH optimum of 5.0 and retained substantial activity and stability at pH 4.0. The temper-ature range for optimal activity was 50-55 degrees C, with the enzyme demonstrating thermostability up to 50 degrees C and retaining 87% of residual activity at that temperature after 3 h. The respective kinetic constants determined with p-nitrophenyl-B-D-glucopyranoside and cellobiose were 0.38 and 1.79 mM for Km and 20.1 and 5.65 mu mol-1 mg- 1 min.1 for Vmax, B-Glucosidase manifested high activity in 10-25% (v/v) ethanol, 30.0 mg L-1 sulfur di-oxide, and 10-200 g L-1 fructose;but it was strongly inhibited by glucose, retaining only 6% of residual activity in the presence of 20 g L-1. Upon investigating the influence of the enzyme on Muscat-wine glycosidic pre-cursors, we found significant differences in terpene content after 14 days of BGL treatment at an eightfold in-crease over control-wine levels. The enzyme was more active toward the precursors of the monoterpenes nerol and geraniol and oxides of trans- and cis-linalool. These findings contribute to our understanding of the potential of cold-active enzymes in advantageous biotechnological applications to enology.

Photoluminescent silicon nanoparticles 1-2 nm in size were synthesized by a wet chemical procedure and derivatized with propylamine （NH2SiNP）. Surface NH2 groups were used as linkers for additional poly（ethylene glycol）（PEG） and folic acid （Fo） attachment （PEG-NHSiNP and Fo-NHSiNP, respectively） to enable efficient targeting of the particles to tumors and inflammatory sites. The particles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, ζ potential, dynamic light scattering, and time-resolved anisotropy. The photophysical properties and photosensitizing capacity of the particles and their interaction with proteins was dependent on the nature of the attached molecules. While PEG attachment did not alter the photophysical behavior of NH2SiNP, the attachment of Fo diminished particle photoluminescence. Particles retained the capacity for 1O2 generation; however, efficient 1O2 quenching by the attached surface groups may be a drawback when using these particles as 1O2photosensitizers. In addition, Fo attachment provided particles with the capacity to generate the superoxide anion radical （O2-）. The particles were able to bind tryptophan residues of bovine serum albumin （BSA） within quenching distances. NH2SiNP and PEG-NHSLNP ground state complexes with BSA showed binding constants of （3.1 ± 0.3） × 10^4 and （1.3 ±0.4） × 10^3 M-1, respectively. The lower value observed for PEG-NHSiNP complexes indicates that surface PEGylation leads to a reduction in protein adsorption, which is required to prevent opsonization. An increase in particle luminescence upon BSA binding was attributed to the hydrophobic environment generated by the protein. NH2SiNP-BSA complexes were also capable of resonance energy transfer.

Background Ventricular shunts are one of the most frequent techniques used for the management of hydrocephalus. The ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) is the most commonly performed procedure, and the ventriculoatrial shunt (VAS) is the second option in most medical centers. The main objective of this study is to introduce and describe a surgical approach for VAS outlining our experience and comparing it with traditional shunting *** In this retrospective cohort comparison study, we included patients with hydrocephalus treated with a surgical procedure between January 2010 and February 2021 at a single academic institution. We categorized the procedures into two groups: patients with VPS and conventional VAS grouped together into the conventional technique (CT) group, and the second group was patients with whom we performed VAS with complete internal jugular vein occlusion (IJVOT). We compared the surgical time, postoperative complications, and occurrence of shunt failure among the groups by performing univariate analysis using the Fisher exact *** Out of the 106 patients included in the analysis, IJVOT was performed in 66 patients, and CT in 40 patients. The median surgical time was 60 min (IQR 60-90) for IJVOT versus 100 min (IQR 60-120) for CT (p < 0.01). In the follow-up a month after the procedure, 83.3% of patients with IJVOT and 62.5% of patients with CT did not require shunt removal or shunt revision (p < 0.01). Shunt revision rates were 12.5% and 1.5% for CT while 1.5% and 2.5% for IJVOT at 1 and 6 months after the *** Our findings demonstrate that VAS with IJVOT is a safe method that exhibited shorter surgical times and outcomes comparable to CT. However, since the present study represents the first cohort evaluating IJVOT, it is imperative to conduct larger prospective studies, along with clinical trials, to fully explore and establish efficacy, long-term outcomes, and an in-depth comparison among shunting techniques
