The emerging technique of photoacoustic imaging,especially in the near infra-red(NIR)window,permits high resolution,deep-penetration,clinically reliable ***,few contrast agents are available that can specifically respond to intricate biological environments,and which are biodegradable and ***,we in troduce a new class of pH-sensitive orga nic photoacoustic con trast age nt that operates in the second NIR window(NIR-II,960-1,700 nm),which is derived from the self-assembled charge-transfer nanocomplex(CTN)by 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine(TMB)and its dication structure(TMB++).The unique NIR-ll-responsive CTN can specifically respond to pH change in the physiological range and allows noninvasive and sensitive visualization of the tumor acidic microenvironment(*** pH5)in mice with higher signal-to-noise *** CTN is biodegradable under physiological conditions(*** 7.4),which alleviates the biosafety concern of nan oparticle accumulati on in *** results clearly show the pote ntial of the TMB/TMB++-based CTN as a promisi ng pH-activated and biodegradable molecular probe for specific tumor photoacoustic imaging in the NIR-II region.

This report describes the design and synthesis of gold nanostars(AuNSs) containing liposomes by the in situ reduction of gold precursor,HAuCU(pre-encapsulated within the liposomes) through HEPES diffusion and *** with the conventional process that encapsulates the pre-synthesized gold nanoparticles into liposomes during the thin-film hydration step,this facile and convenient method allows the formation and simultaneous encapsulation of AuNSs within *** absorption spectra of AuNSs can be tuned between visible and near infra-red(NIR) regions by controlling the size and morphology of AuNSs through varying the concentrations of HAuCU and *** a proof of concept,we demonstrate the synthesis of AuNSs with a maximum absorbance at 803 nm within the temperature-sensitive *** liposomes can produce stronger photoacoustic signals(1.5 fold) in the NIR region than ***,when there are drugs(i.e.,doxorubicin) within these liposomes,the irradiation with the NIR pulse laser will disrupt the liposomes and trigger the 100%release of these pre-encapsulated drugs within 10 *** comparison,there is neglectable contrast enhancement or minor release(10%) of drugs for the pure liposomes under the same ***,cell experiment shows the potential therapeutic application of this system.

Dual-wavelength all-fiber Q-switched fiber laser using bismuth-doped fiber as saturable absorber

A passively Q-switched all-fiber laser is demonstrated using a 10-cm-long bismuth-doped fiber(BDF) as a saturable absorber(SA). The dual-wavelength operation was obtained due to the nonlinear effect inside the fabricated BDF, which has a high germanium content. Stable Q-switched pulses were obtained at the dual synchronous wavelengths of 1 530.1 nm and 1 531.1 nm. When the pump power is tuned from 105.3 mW to 191.0 mW, the repetition rate can be varied from 82.6 kMz to 117.6 kHz. The maximum pulse energy and average output power were 83.4 nJ and 9.8 mW, respectively while the minimum pulse width was 8.5 μs at the maximum pump power of 191.0 mW. Our results indicate that BDF could be a promising alternative optical modulator for pulsed fiber laser application.

BACKGROUND There is scant literature on hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome(BCS).AIM To assess the magnitude,clinical characteristics,feasibility,and outcomes of treatment in *** A total of 904 BCS patients from New Delhi,India and 1140 from Mumbai,India were *** prevalence and incidence of HCC were determined,and among patients with BCS-HCC,the viability and outcomes of interventional therapy were *** In the New Delhi cohort of 35 BCS-HCC patients,18 had HCC at index presentation(prevalence 1.99%),and 17 developed HCC over a follow-up of 4601 person-years,[incidence 0.36(0.22-0.57)per 100 person-years].BCS-HCC patients were older when compared to patients with BCS alone(P=0.001)and had a higher proportion of inferior vena cava block,cirrhosis,and long-segment vascular *** median alpha-fetoprotein level was higher in patients with BCS-HCC at first presentation than those who developed HCC at follow-up(13029 ng/mL vs 500 ng/mL,P=0.01).Of the 35 BCS-HCC,26(74.3%)underwent radiological interventions for BCS,and 22(62.8%)patients underwent treatment for HCC[transarterial chemoembolization in 18(81.8%),oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor in 3(13.6%),and transarterial radioembolization in 1(4.5%)].The median survival among patients who underwent interventions for HCC compared with those who did not was 3.5 years vs 3.1 mo(P=0.0001).In contrast to the New Delhi cohort,the Mumbai cohort of BCS-HCC patients were predominantly males,presented with a more advanced HCC[Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer C and D],and 2 patients underwent liver *** HCC is not uncommon in patients with *** interventions and liver transplantation are feasible in select primary BCS-HCC patients and may improve outcomes.
