Role of terpenes from aphid-infested potato on searching and oviposition behavior of Episyrphus balteatus

To cope with pathogen and insect attacks, plants develop different mechanisms of defence, in both direct （physical and chemical） and indirect ways （attractive volatiles to entomophagous beneficials）. Plants are then able to express traits that facilitate ＂top-down＂ control of pests by attracting herbivore predators. Here we investigate the indirect defence mechanism of potato plants by analyzing the volatile patterns of both healthy and aphid- infested plants. Important changes in the emitted terpene pattern by the Myzus persicae infested host plant were observed. Using Solid Phase MicroExtraction （SPME） and GC-MS, the （E）-fl-farnesene （EBF） appeared to be emitted by aphid-infested potato and not by healthy plants. To assess the infochemical role of these volatile releases after aphid damage on the aphidophagous predators Episyrphus balteams, the hoverfly foraging behavior was assessed using the Observer 5.0 software （noldus, Wageningen, The netherlands）. Aphidfree potato plants were also used as a control volatile source in the predator behavioral study. While aphid-infested plants induced efficient searching and acceptation behaviors leading to egg-laying, no kairomonal effect of healthy potato plants was observed, leading to longer immobility durations and shorter searching periods in the net cage. High oviposition rate of E. balteatus was observed when aphid-infested potato was used （mean of 48.9 eggs per laying and per female）. On the other hand, no egg was produced by the hoverfly on healthy aphid-free plants. The E. balteatus foraging and reproductive behaviors according to the volatile emission from aphid-infested plants are discussed in relation to the potential use of active infochemical molecules in integrated aphid pest management.

Polycrystalline La-doped BaTiO_(3)(Ba_(1-x)La_(x)TiO_(3))[x¼0;0:0005;0:001;0:003]ceramics(denoted as BTO,BLT1,BLT2,BLT3)were synthesized by conventional solid-state reaction method and characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and Raman *** and Raman spectra revealed single-phase tetragonal perovskite crystalline ***-saturated polarization–electric field(P–E)hysteresis loops were observed with the measurement frequency of 50Hz at room temperature and confirmed ferroelectric nature of these ceramics and a high recoverable electrical energy storage density of 0.350J/cm^(3) with energy efficiency(n)-9%,which is useful in energy storage capacitor *** studies revealed anomalies around 415–420K and near the Curie *** latter is attributed to the ferroelectric to paraelectric phase *** dielectric performances were obtained for La-doped samples sintered at 1350℃ for *** growth is inhibited with lanthanum(La)incorporation into the BTO *** temperature semiconducting behavior with positive temperature coefficient of resistivity(PTCR)behavior at TC is attributed to electron compensation mechanism.

AIM: To describe the clinical characteristics and treatments associated with antibody positive optic neuropathies including anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein(MOG) and anti-aquaporin 4(AQP4), alongside diagnostic modalities, investigations, and outcomes. METHODS: A cross-sectional single-centre retrospective case series consisting of 16 patients including 12 antiMOG positive patients and 4 anti-AQP4 positive patients. Each of these patients had clinical signs and symptoms of optic neuritis and consisted of all patients who had a positive blood antibody result in our centre. Clinical findings including presence of a relative afferent pupillary defect, colour vision and disc assessment were recorded. Structured clinical exam and multimodal imaging was undertaken sequentially on each. Optical coherence tomography(OCT) scanning was preformed to examine the correlation between ganglion cell layer(GCL) thickness and visual acuity(VA) at presentation and as a determinant of final visual outcome in both groups. Initial and long-term treatment is also summarised. RESULTS: A total of 16 patients were included in the study consisting of 12 anti-MOG and 4 anti-AQP4 positive patients. nine of the 16 patients were female and the average age of onset was 29.2 y in the MOG group and 42 y in the AQP4 group. There was no statistically significant correlation(Pearson correlation) between GCL thickness and presenting and final VA [r(10)=0.081, P=0.08 and r(10)=0.089, P=0.34 respectively]. The same statistical analysis was performed for the correlation between retinal nerve fibre layer(RnFL) and VA and similar outcomes wereobserved [r(10)=0.04, P=0.22 and r(10)=0.09, P=0.04]. no correlation was seen for initial RnFL thickness and final visual outcome in this group either [r(2)=0.19, P=0.38]. The objective of this work is to dry the mushrooms to evaluate the impact of drying on them. The drying of mushrooms in the oven, in the solar dryer and in the microwave indicated that for Termitomyces sp. the total polyphenol contents were 15.20 mgEAG/gMs for the microwave drying (280 W), 13.61 mgEAG/gMs for the oven drying (60°C), and 9.81 mgEAG/gMs for the solar dryer drying (40°C). For Pleurotus sp., the contents obtained were 13.79 mgEAG/gMs for microwave drying (280 W), 8.36 mgEAG/gMs for oven drying (60°C) and 8.98 mgEAG/gMs for solar drying (40°C). Regarding flavonoids, for Termitomyces sp., this revealed 0.5797 mgECa/gMs for microwave drying (280 W), 0.729 mgECa/gMs for oven drying (60°C) and 0.5671 mgECa/gMs for solar drying (40°C). The flavonoid contents for Pleurotus sp. gave 0.842 mgECa/gMs for microwave drying (280 W), 1.06 mgECa/gMs for oven drying (60°C) and, 0.425 mgECa/gMs for solar drying (40°C). For Termitomyces sp., the levels of free radical scavenging activity varied from 13.02 mg/mL for microwave drying, 25.08 mg/mL for oven drying, and 22.25 mg/mL for solar drying;while for Pleurotus sp., 15.96 mg/mL for microwave drying, 39.90 mg/mL for oven drying, and 31.60 mg/mL for solar drying.

Introduction Using the information obtained from analysis of 16S rRnA gene sequences,Tsukamurella was first proposed as a genus in 1988,1 despite the fact that the first strain of this group of bacteria was described in 1941,2 and the first human isolate was reported in 1971.3 Similar to related genera of the order Corynebacteriales,such as nocardia,Rhodococcus,and Gordonia,members of Tsukamurella are Gram-positive,aerobic,catalase-positive,and partially acid-fast as a result of the presence of mycolic acid in the cell *** to their similar phenotypic properties,differentiation of these genera and speciation within these genera is difficult in most clinical microbiology laboratories.

Tuberculosis(TB)continues to disproportionately affect Inuit populations in Canada with some communities having over 300 times higher rate of active TB than Canadian-born,non-Indigenous *** Tuberculosis Elimination Framework has set the goal of reducing active TB incidence by at least 50%by 2025,aiming to eliminate it by *** these goals are achievable with available resources and treatment regimens currently in practice has not been *** developed an agent-based model of TB transmission to evaluate timelines and milestones attainable in nunavut,Canada by including case findings,contact-tracing and testing,treatment of latent TB infection(LTBI),and the government investment on housing infrastructure to reduce the average house-hold *** model was calibrated to ten years of TB incidence data,and simulated for 20 years to project program *** found that,under a range of plausible scenarios with tracing and testing of 25%e100%of frequent contacts of detected active cases,the goal of 50%reduction in annual incidence by 2025 is not *** active TB cases are identified rapidly within one week of becoming symptomatic,then the annual incidence would reduce below 100 per 100,000 population,with 50%reduction being met between 2025 and *** TB from Inuit populations would require high rates of contacttracing and would extend beyond *** findings indicate that time-to-identification of active TB is a critical factor determining program effectiveness,suggesting that investment in resources for rapid case detection is fundamental to controlling TB.

Grade of donor liver microvesicular steatosis does not affect the postoperative outcome after liver transplantation

BACKGROUnD:The potential effect of graft steatosis on the postoperative liver function is discussed controversially. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the donor liver microvesicular steatosis on the postoperative outcome after liver ***:ninety-four patients undergoing liver transplantation at the University Hospital Aachen were included in this study. The patient cohort was divided into three groups according to the grade of microvesicular steatosis(MiS):MiS n=27), MiS 30%-60%(n=41) and MiS >60%(n=26).The outcomes after liver transplantation were evaluated, including the 30-day and 1-year patient and graft survival rates and the incidences of early allograft dysfunction(EAD) and primary nonfunction(PnF). RESULTS:The incidences of EAD and PnF did not differ significantly between the groups. We observed 5 cases of PnF,one occurred in the MiS nd 4 in the MiS 30%-60% group. The 30-day and 1-year graft survivals did not differ significantly between groups. The 30-day patient survival rates were 100% in all groups. The 1-year patient survival rates were 94.4% in the MiS n the MiS 30%-60% group and 90.9% in the MiS >60% ***:Microvesicular steatosis of donor livers has no negative effect on the postoperative outcome after liver transplantation.
