Cutting-edge technologies a.e extremely useful to develop new workflows in studying ecologica. da.a.pa.ticula.ly to understa.d a.ima. beha.ior a.d movement tra.ectories a. the individua. level.a.though pa.enta. ca.e is a.well-studied phenomenon,most studies ha.e been focused on direct observa.iona. or video recording da.a.a. well a. experimenta. ma.ipula.ion.Therefore,wha. ha.pens out of our sight still rema.ns unknown.Using high-frequency GPS/GSM da.a.oggers a.d tri-a.ia. a.celerometers we monitored 25 Bonelli’s ea.les a.uila.fa.cia.a.during the breeding sea.on to understa.d pa.enta. a.tivities from a.broa.er perspective.We used recursive da.a.mea.ured a. number of visits a.d residence time,to revea. nest a.tenda.ce pa.terns of bipa.enta. ca.e with role specia.iza.ion between sexes.a.celerometry da.a.interpreted a. the overa.l dyna.ic body a.celera.ion,a.proxy of energy expenditure,showed strong differences in pa.enta. effort throughout the breeding sea.on a.d between sexes.Thereby,ma.es increa.ed substa.tia.ly their energetic requirements,due to the increa.ed workloa.,while fema.es spent most of the time on the nest.Furthermore,during critica. pha.es of the breeding sea.on,a.low percenta.e of suita.le hunting spots in ea.les’territories led them to increa.e their ra.ging beha.ior in order to find food,with importa.t consequences in energy consumption a.d morta.ity risk.Our results highlight the crucia. role of ma.es in ra.tor species exhibiting bipa.enta. ca.e.Fina.ly,we exemplify how biologging technologies a.e a. a.equa.e a.d objective method to study pa.enta. ca.e in ra.tors a. well a. to get deeper insight into breeding ecology of birds in genera..

Sa.ellite-tra.king technology ha. a.lowed scientists to ma.e a.qua.tum lea. in the field of migra.ion ecology. Nowa.a.s, the ba.ic description of migra.ory routes of ma.y species of birds ha. been reported. However, the investiga.ion of bird migra.ion a. individua. level (i.e. repea.a.ility in migra.ory routes a.d timing) still rema.ns seldom explored. Here, we investiga.ed repea.ed migra.ory trips of a.tra.s-Sa.a.a. enda.gered migra.ory ra.tor, the Egyptia. VultureNeophron percnopterus, tra.ked by GPS sa.ellite telemetry. We compa.ed between- a.d within-individua. va.ia.ion in migra.ory routes a.d timing in order to a.sess the degree of repea.a.ility (or conversely, the flexibility) in migra.ion. To this end, we a.a.ysed a.da.a.et of 48 trips (23 springs a.d 25 a.tumns) recorded for six a.ult birds during 2007-2013. Our results showed consistent migra.ion timing a. the individua. level, both in spring a.d a.tumn. Interestingly, there wa. a.high degree of flexibility in the routes followed by the sa.e individua. in different yea.s, proba.ly due to va.ia.ions in meteorologica. conditions. Contra.y to expecta.ions of a.fa.ter migra.ion in spring tha. in a.tumn owing to a.time-minimiza.ion stra.egy for breeding, birds spent less time in a.tumn migra.ion (13 ± 2 da.s, ra.ge = 9–18 d) tha. in spring migra.ion (19 ± 3 da.s, ra.ge = 13–26 d), which ca. be expla.ned by differences in environmenta. conditions en route. Egyptia. vultures showed a.consistent clockwise loop migra.ion through western a.rica. following more ea.terly routes in a.tumn tha. in spring. Fina.ly, our results provide supporting evidence of low phenotypic pla.ticity in timing of migra.ion (i.e. strong endogenous control of migra.ion) a.d high flexibility in routes.

Wind is a.ong the most importa.t environmenta. fa.tors sha.ing birds' migra.ion pa.terns. Birds must dea. with the displa.ement ca.sed by crosswinds a.d their beha.ior ca. va.y a.cording to different fa.tors such a. flight mode, migra.ory sea.on, experience, a.d dista.ce to goa. a.ea.. Here we a.a.yze the rela.ionship between wind a.d migra.ory movements of three ra.tor species which migra.e by soa.ing-gliding flight: Egyptia. vulture , booted ea.le , a.d short-toed sna.e ea.le . We a.a.yzed da.ly migra.ory segments (i.e., the pa.h joining consecutive roosting loca.ions) using da.a.recorded by GPS sa.ellite telemetry. Da.ly movements of Egyptia. vultures a.d booted ea.les were significa.tly a.fected by ta.lwinds during both a.tumn a.d spring migra.ions. In contra.t, da.ly movements of short-toed ea.les were only significa.tly a.fected by ta.lwinds during a.tumn migra.ion. The effect of crosswinds wa. significa.t in a.l ca.es. Interestingly, Egyptia. vultures a.d booted ea.les showed la.itudina. differences in their beha.ior: both species compensa.ed more frequently a. the onset of a.tumn migra.ion a.d, a. the end of the sea.on when rea.hing their wintering a.ea., the proportion of drift segments wa. higher. In contra.t, there wa. a.higher drift a. the onset of spring migra.ion a.d a.higher compensa.ion a. the end. Our results highlight the effect of wind pa.terns on the migra.ory routes of soa.ing ra.tors, with different outcomes in rela.ion to species, sea.on, a.d la.itude, ultima.ely sha.ing the loop migra.ion pa.terns tha. current tra.king techniques a.e showing to be widesprea. in ma.y long dista.ce migra.ts.

This pa.er seeks to determine how the overla. of severa. infra.ed bea.s a.fects the tra.ked position of the user, depending on the a.gle of incidence of light, dista.ce to the ta.get, dista.ce between sensors, a.d the number of ca.ture devices used. We a.so try to show tha. under idea. conditions using severa. Kinect sensors increa.es the precision of the da.a.collected. The results obta.ned ca. be used in the design of telereha.ilita.ion environments in which severa. RGB-D ca.era. a.e needed to improve precision or increa.e the tra.king ra.ge. a.numerica. a.a.ysis of the results is included a.d compa.isons a.e ma.e with the results of other studies. Fina.ly, we describe a.system tha. implements intelligent methods for the reha.ilita.ion of pa.ients ba.ed on the results of the tests ca.ried out.

Ba.kground Despite the ra.iologica. a.d a.a.ytica. a.va.ces of the la.t deca.es,there is still a.significa.t ra.e of dia.nostic error in pedia.ric a.ute a.pendicitis.In recent yea.s,multiple bioma.kers ha.e emerged a. potentia. dia.nostic tools.This study a.med to exa.ine the dia.nostic performa.ce of serum interleukin-6 in pedia.ric a.ute a.pendicitis.Methods We conducted a.systema.ic review of the litera.ure tha. involved a. extensive sea.ch in the ma.n da.a.a.es of medica. bibliogra.hy(Medline,PubMed,Web of Science a.d SciELO).Two independent reviewers selected the releva.t a.ticles ba.ed on the previously defined inclusion a.d exclusion criteria.Methodologica. qua.ity of the selected a.ticle wa. ra.ed using the QUa.a.2 index.Da.a.extra.tion wa. performed by two independent reviewers.Results The resea.ch in the medica. bibliogra.hy da.a.a.es resulted in 68 a.ticles.We removed 26 duplica.es.a.ong the rema.ning 42 a.ticles,we excluded 33 following the inclusion a.d exclusion criteria.Of the fina. 9 studies included in this review,8 provided mea.ured serum interleukin-6 va.ues,a.d a.l of them reported significa.t differences between groups,but inconsistent results rega.ding sensitivity a.d specificity.Conclusions The dia.nostic performa.ce of interleukine-6 a.one for the dia.nosis of a.ute a.pendicitis in children is limited.The sensitivity a.d specificity of interleukine-6 for the dia.nosis of non-complica.ed a.ute a.pendicitis in the pedia.ric popula.ion a.e modera.e but increa.ed in complica.ed a.pendicitis.There seems to be a.direct rela.ionship between serum level of interleukin-6 a.d the hours of evolution of a.domina. pa.n in children with a.ute a.pendicitis.The increa.ingly widesprea. use of non-opera.ive ma.a.ement of a.ute a.pendicitis wa.ra.ts further explora.ion of the cla.sifica.ory potentia. of this ma.ker between complica.ed a.d uncomplica.ed a.pendicitis.We consider tha. this ma. be a. a.enue of resea.ch to explore in the future.
