Background: Athletes, coaches, sport psychology practitioners, and researchers suggest that mental toughness represents an important construct that is associated with athletic performance. Unfortunately, the absence of real-world performance as a dependent variable has limited our ability to substantiate this claim. The concern of a lack of ecologically valid measures of sports performance might be addressed by examining the relationship between mental toughness and sports performance using a standardized measure of personal best(PB) triathlon time and a validated unidimensional measure of mental ***: Three hundred and sixteen triathletes completed the 8-item mental toughness index(MTI), reported their age, and provided a PB Olympic distance triathlon time and the total number of triathlons they had completed to date. Given that males are typically quicker than females, a standardized time was calculated by dividing the PB by the current Olympic record for gender; we also hypothesized that more experienced triathletes would report quicker PB times because of greater frequency and duration of training. Once we had controlled for gender and experience,we predicted that mental toughness would be negatively associated with triathlon time and the size of the relationship would be of a moderate ***: Results revealed small-to moderate-sized negative relationships between both completed number of triathlons and mental toughness with standardized PB ***: The hierarchical regression analysis showed that mental toughness provided a unique contribution to the variability in standardized Olympic triathlon PB after controlling for the total number of triathlons completed.

Niobium has an important effect on the transformation behaviour,grain size refinement and precipitation strengthening during hot rolling and subsequent cooling in low carbon steels,with even a low content of niobium having a strong effect on the transformation rate from austenite to ***,the effects of niobium on transformation behaviour have not been fully characterised and understood to *** paper examines in detail austenite grain growth as a function of austenitisation time in high strength low alloy (HSLA) steels with three different niobium contents,together with the effect of niobium on the isothermal transformation kinetics from austenite to ferrite as a function of *** is shown that austenite has the slowest grain growth rate in the steel with the highest niobium *** austenite grain sizes are consistent,the steel with the highest niobium content was found to have the slowest transformation rate from austenite to ferrite.

BACKGROUND Lisfranc injuries are rare and can be easily missed. This injury is extremely rare in children, with limited published data. Different treatment options have been described; one of the options in adults is the "mini" TightRope^(TM) Syndesmosis Device that provides non-rigid fixation with impressive results. However, there is no reference regarding the use of this device in *** SUMMARY We describe the case of an 11-year-old girl who sustained a Lisfranc injury of her right foot that was initially missed in the Accident and Emergency department of her local hospital. This case was a ligamentous/periosteal sleeve avulsion type of Lisfranc injury and a percutaneous technique using the "mini" TightRope^(TM)syndesmosis device was used. Clinical and radiological results were excellent at final follow *** The "mini" TightRope^(TM) syndesmosis device is a promising method of fixation for children with certain Lisfranc injuries. This method has many advantages,including the non-rigid type of the fixation and no need for subsequent metalwork removal.

This review of solar physics emphasizes several of the more conspicuous scientific puzzles posed by contemporary observational knowledge of the magnetic activity of the Sun. The puzzles emphasize how much classical physics we have yet to learn from the Sun. The physics of solar activity is based on the principles of Newton, Maxwell, Lorentz, Boltzmann, et. al., along with the principles of radiative transfer. In the large, these principles are expressed by magnetohydro dynamics. A brief derivation of the magnetohydrodynamic induction and moment um equations is provided, with a discussion of popular misconceptions.

A new FAGE setup has recently been built at the University of Lille,*** permits the quantification of OH and HO 2 in the atmosphere with a detection limit of 3×10 5 molecules/（cm 3 ·min） for OH and 1×10 6 molecules/（cm 3 ·min） for HO *** coupling to a photolysis cell enables the measurement of the total reactivity of the hydroxyl radical in ambient air and kinetic studies in *** configurations have been considered：one with the photolysis cell at 90° to the FAGE nozzle,the other on line with the FAGE *** two configurations have been tested and validated by measuring the well known rate constants of OH with CH 4,C 3 H 8 and *** advantages and drawbacks of each configuration have been *** ＂on line＂ configuration limits losses and permits measurements over a larger reactivity range but is affected by OH formation from the laser beam striking the FAGE nozzle,thus limiting the ability to carry out energy dependence studies which can,in contrast,be successfully performed in the 90° configuration.

Sediments samples of the Dobczyce Reservoir(South Poland) were taken in three successive years(2004-06) at 17 points,analyzed for 12 elements by atomic absorption *** variations in elemental composition due to hydrological and environmental reasons were *** use of statistical and chemometric tools enabled objective and effective analysis of the data obtained,both in case of long term observations as well as in terms of interpretation of incidental changes in metal *** proposed methodology can be useful in:a) dividing monitored territories(lakes,rivers,catchments) into similar and dissimilar areas;b) distinguishing between typical and non-typical contaminants distribution;c) reducing the number of essential analytes and sampling points that should be controlled in the future,without loss of important environmental information.
