Forecasting the Epicenter Area of a Future Strong Earthquake

It is clear from the literature data that the geometric characteristics of the seismogenic source are directly related to the nucleation of their strong earthquakes. Our study starts from the observation of the proximity relationship between the epicenter of a strong earthquake and the surface trace of the seismogenic source. The proposed model is based on the mathematical analysis of seismicity falling within an area, through a polynomial function to determine a curve. The experimental results of our model confirm that 97% of the epicenters of strong earthquakes are located near the concavities or at the inflection points of the polynomial curve. Only 3% of strong earthquakes are located at the edges of the analyzed areas, where the number of data is not significant. The proposed model makes it possible to locate, with good approximation, the areas most likely to be the site of future strong earthquakes.

The pinning of quantized magnetic vortices in superconducting YBa_(2)Cu_(3)O_(7-δ)(YBCO or Y123)thin films with Y_(2)BaCuO_(5)(Y211)nanoinclusions have been investigated over wide temperature range(4.2-77 K).The concentration of Y211 nanoinclusions has been systematically varied inside YBCO thin films prepared by laser ablation technique using surface modified target *** pinning force density values(Fp∼0.5 TNm^(−3)at 4.2 K,9 T)have been observed for the YBCO film with moderate concentration of Y211 nanoinclusions(3.6 area%on ablation target).In addition,uniform enhancement in critical current density(J_(c))was observed in the angular dependent J_(c)measurement of YBCO+Y211 nanocomposite films.Y211 nanoinclusions have been found to be very efficient in pinning the quantized vortices thereby enhancing the in‐field J_(c)values over a wide range of *** the concentration of Y211 secondary phase into Y123 film matrix results into agglomeration of Y211 phase and observed as increased Y211 nanoparticle *** larger secondary phase nanoparticles are not as efficient pinning centers at lower temperatures as they are at higher temperatures due to substantial reduction of the coherence length at lower *** of the temperature dependence of J_(c)for YBCO+Y211 nanocomposite films has been conducted and possible vortex pinning mechanism in these nanocomposite films has been discussed.

BACKGROUNd Non-invasive differential diagnosis between hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)and other liver cancer(*** or metastasis)is highly challenging and definitive diagnosis still relies on histological *** patterns of enhancement and wash-out of liver nodules can be used to stratify the risk of malignancy only in cirrhotic patients and HCC frequently shows atypical *** contrast-enhanced ultrasound(dCEUS)with standardized software could help to overcome these obstacles,providing functional and quantitative parameters and potentially improving accuracy in the evaluation of tumor *** To explore clinical evidence regarding the application of dCEUS in the differential diagnosis of liver *** A comprehensive literature search of clinical studies was performed to identify the parameters of dCEUS that could relate to histological *** accordance with the study protocol,a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the evidence was *** Rise time was significantly higher in HCC patients with a standardized mean difference(SMd)of 0.83(95%CI:0.48-1.18).Similarly,other statistically significant parameters were mean transit time local with a SMd of 0.73(95%CI:0.20-1.27),peak enhancement with a SMd of 0.37(95%CI:0.03-0.70),area wash-in area under the curve with a SMd of 0.47(95%CI:0.13-0.81),wash-out area under the curve with a SMd of 0.55(95%CI:0.21-0.89)and wash-in and wash-out area under the curve with SMd of 0.51(95%CI:0.17-0.85).SMd resulted not significant in fall time and wash-in rate,but the latter presented a trend towards greater values in HCC compared to intrahepatic *** dCEUS could improve non-invasive diagnosis of HCC,leading to less liver biopsy and early *** quantitative analysis needs to be applied on larger cohorts to confirm these preliminary results.

We study the structural and dynamical properties of A209 based on Chandra and XMM-Newton *** obtain detailed temperature,pressure,and entropy maps with the contour binning method,and find a hot region in the NW *** X-ray brightness residual map and corresponding temperature profiles reveal a possible shock front in the NW direction and a cold front feature in the SE *** with the galaxy luminosity density map we propose a weak merger scenario.A young sub-cluster passing from the SE to NW direction could explain the optical subpeak,the intracluster medium temperature map,the X-ray surface brightness excess,and the X-ray peak offset together.
