Tunable Optical Bandgap of Gadolinium Substituted Nickel-Zinc Ferrite Nanoparticles-Effect of Calcination Temperature on Its Optical parameters

The gadolinium substituted nickel-zinc ferrite nanoparticles of the composition, Ni0.5Zn0.5Gd0.05Fe1.95O4 were prepared using sol-gel method. In order to study the effect of calcination temperature on the optical parameters, the prepared powder was divided into five parts. The first part was taken as the as-prepared sample and the remaining four parts were calcinated at different temperatures, 600°C, 700°C, 800°C & 900°C. The X-ray diffraction patterns revealed the formation of cubic spinel structure with single phase and Fd3m space group. The crystallite size was increased from 11.75 nm to 18.13 nm as the calcination temperature increased from 600 to 900°C whereas as-prepared sample exhibited 17.61 nm. The dislocation density was decreased from 7.243 × 10p>-3p> to 3.042 × 10p>-3p> nmp>-2p> as the calcination temperature increased from 600°C to 900°C. The micro strain was decreased from 10 × 10p>-4p> to 6.452 × 10p>-4p> as the calcination temperature increased from 600°C to 900°C. The characteristic absorbance peaks were obtained at 255.2 nm for the ferrite nanoparticles of as-prepared and calcinated at 600°C and 800°C whereas it was obtained as 252.8 nm for the sample calcinated at 700°C and there was no such characteristic peak in UV-visible range for the sample calcinated at 900°C;it is expected in the below 200 nm region. The optical energy gap was calculated using Kubelka-Munk equation based on Tauc’s plot and found in the range 4.100 eV to 5.389 eV. The lowest energy gap of 4.100 eV exhibited by the sample calcinated at 700°C and the highest energy gap of 5.389 eV by the sample calcinated at 900°C. It is concluded that the tunable band gaps can be obtained with varying calcination temperature.

Recently,big data becomes evitable due to massive increase in the generation of data in real time ***,object detection and tracking applications becomes popular among research communities and finds useful in different applications namely vehicle navigation,augmented reality,surveillance,*** paper introduces an effective deep learning based object tracker using Automated Image Annotation with Inception v2 based Faster RCNN(AIA-IFRCNN)model in big data *** AIA-IFRCNN model annotates the images by Discriminative Correlation Filter(DCF)with Channel and Spatial Reliability tracker(CSR),named DCF-CSRT *** AIA-IFRCNN technique employs Faster RCNN for object detection and tracking,which comprises region proposal network(RpN)and Fast *** addition,inception v2 model is applied as a shared convolution neural network(CNN)to generate the feature ***,softmax layer is applied to perform classification *** effectiveness of the AIA-IFRCNN method undergoes experimentation against a benchmark dataset and the results are assessed under diverse aspects with maximum detection accuracy of 97.77%.

Solution and Thermodynamic Studies on Binary and Ternary Complexes of Lanthanides

The interactions of La（ Ⅲ ）, pr（ Ⅲ ）, Nd（ Ⅲ ）, Sm（ Ⅲ ）, Eu（Ⅲ）, Gd（ Ⅲ ）, Dy（ Ⅲ ）, and Yb（ Ⅲ ） with cytosine, 5-bromocytosine, 5-azacytosine and 5-flurocytosine as primary ligands （L） and guanine （A） as secondary ligand for both binary （ 1 ： 1 ） as well as ternary （ 1 ： 1 ： 1 ） systems were investigated by potentiometric equilibrium measurements at 25, 35 and 45 ℃ in aqueous solution （ionic strength, μ = 0.1 mol·dm^-3 NaNO3）. The stability constants of the binary （ 1 ： 1 ） and ternary （ 1 ： 1 ： 1 ） metal-ligand complexes follow the following order La 〈 pr 〈 Nd 〈 Sm 〈 Eu 〉 Gd 〈 Dy 〉 Yb. Results also indicate that the ternary lanthanide complexes of La（Ⅲ）, pr（Ⅲ）, Nd（Ⅲ）, Sm（Ⅲ）, Eu（Ⅲ）, Gd（Ⅲ）, Dy（Ⅲ）, and Yb（ Ⅲ ） are more stable than corresponding binary lanthanide complexes. The enthalpy （△Hf^o） and entropy （△Sf^o） changes for the formation of binary and ternary complexes were calculated from temperature coefficient data. The △△Sf^o values are positive for all the metal ligand systems. The negative △△Hf^o values indicate the extra stability of the ternary complexes by the exothermic enthalpy changes （△△Sf^o = △TSf^o - △BSf^o and △△Hf^o = △THf^o - △BHf^o where △TSf^o, △THf^o and △BSf^o, △BHf^o are the entropy and enthalpy values associated with the ternary and binary complexes, respectively）. It was also proposed that the guanine is bonded to metal ions through N1/C6 = O and N7 whereas cytosine and its derivatives are bonded through N3 atoms in ternary complexes.

Inflammatory mediator release by Brugia malayi from macrophages of susceptible host Mastomys coucha and THp-1 and RAW 264.7 cell lines

Objective:To investigate which life stage of the parasite has the ability to stimulate release of pro- or anti-inflammatory mediators from ***:The human macrophage/ monocyte cell line THp-1,the mouse macrophage cell line RAW 264.7 and naive peritoneal macrophages（pM） from the rodent host Mastomys coucha（***） were incubated at 37℃in 5%CO2 atmosphere with extracts of microfilariae（Mf）,third stage infective larvae（L3） and adult worms（Ad） of Brugia *** 48 hr post exposure,IL-1β,IL-6,TNF-α,IL-10 and nitric oxide（NO） in cell-free supernatants were ***:Extracts of all the life stages of the parasite were capable of stimulating pro-（IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α） and anti-inflammatory （IL-10） cytokines in both the cell lines and peritoneal macrophages of *** was the strongest stimulator of pro-inflammatory cytokines followed by L3 and Ad;however,Ad was a strong stimulator of IL-10 *** was found to have potential to modulate LpS-induced NO release in RAW ***-induced NO release was concentration dependent with maximum at 20μg/mL in both RAW and ***:The results show that parasites at all life stages were capable of stimulating pro-（IL-1β,IL-6 and TNF-α） and anti-inflammatory（IL-10） cytokines and NO release from macrophages of susceptible host ***,human and mouse macrophage cell *** can suppress the LpS-induced NO release in RAW *** findings also show that the two cell lines may provide a convenient in vitro system for assaying parasite-induced inflammatory mediator release.

Diabetes Treatment-Related Myths and the Impact of COVID-19 on Diabetes Knowledge—An Indian Survey-Based Study

Objective: The main aim of the survey was to assess diabetes treatment-related myths prevalent in the Indian population and if COVID-19 pandemic improved their knowledge about diabetes. Results: The survey was completed by 309 participants;66% did not have diabetes. The responses of people with diabetes and those without diabetes were similar. Survey results of the total population showed that the majority believed that diabetes treatment should start early (92.6%);87.4% believed that the treatment should start within three months of diagnosis with modern medicines;67.3% of the participants felt that allopathic medicines for diabetes were safe, 69.6% believed that if started these medications continue lifelong, and 40.5% thought they damaged all major organs. Insulin was thought to be safe by 65% of the surveyed population;60.8% believed that if they started insulin, they would need it life-long;51.5% thought that insulin was started at the last stage of diabetes;and 58.6% believed that insulin caused kidney damage. A total of 58.6% believed that herbal medicines for diabetes were safer than allopathic;76.4% did not believe that the “diabetic cure” shown through television/newspapers was safe and effective;67.3% did not believe that ayurvedic medicines cured diabetes. Of the surveyed population, 67% felt that their knowledge about diabetes improved during the pandemic and 89.3% knew that pWDs have more serious problems with covid infection. Conclusions: Our survey shows that many diabetes treatment-related myths are prevalent in the Indian population even though the COVID-19 pandemic improved their knowledge about diabetes.

Molecular characterization of antimicrobial multi-drug resistance in non-typhoidal Salmonellae from chicken and clam in Mangalore, India

Salmonella enterica has been documented as one of the leading causes of salmonellosis throughout the world and is most commonly associated with the consumption of contaminated food products. Thus, this research was aimed at studying the antimicrobial susceptibility pattern and detection of quinolone resistance in Salmonella spp isolated from food of animal origin. Thirty-six Salmonella isolates comprising 8 from poultry and 28 from seafood（clams） were identified, serotyped and characterized for their antimicrobial susceptibility against 10 different antibiotics. plasmid DNA was isolated from all the isolates by alkaline lysis, quinolone resistant non-typhoidal S. Weltevreden were examined for mutation in the DNA gyrase coding gene. Among the 36 Salmonella isolates, 20 were S. weltevreden（8 from poultry and 12 from seafood） and 16 were S. Typhimurium（from seafood）. All the isolates showed multiple resistance to nalidixic acid, tetracycline, co-trimoxazole and nitrofurantoin, but, interestingly, the isolates were 100% susceptible to ampicillin, chloramphenicol and gentamicin. Resistant isolates from the study carried the genes responsible for resistance to respective antibiotics. The strain S130 isolated in the study showed single point mutation,Asp87Gly, at position 87 in quinolone resistance determining region. It revealed mutation in quinolone resistance determining region as a cause for quinolone resistance in non-typhoidal Salmonellae. The occurrence of genes accountable for plasmid mediated resistance to quinolones（viz., qnrA, qnrB and qnrS） in plasmid of non-typhoidal Salmonellae isolates provides evidence for plasmid mediated quinolone resistance.

Nd-doped ZnO as a multifunctional nanomaterial

Chemically synthesised ZnO and Nd-doped ZnO nanoparticles were investigated for structural, optical, magnetic properties along with photocatalytic activity. Transmission electron microscopy measurement was performed on the undoped and doped ZnO nanoparticles. Compared to the undoped ZnO, Nd-doped ZnO nanoparticles showed enhanced photoluminescent and ferromagnetic properties. The Nd- doped ZnO nanoparticles also showed improved photocatalytic properties compared with the undoped ZnO nanoparticles. Furthermore, the effect of UV light irradiation was studied with thermoluminescence （TL） and photoluminescence （pL） measurement techniques. It was found that in case ofNd-doped ZnO nanoparticles TL intensity increased while the green emission in pL spectra decreased with UV-light irradiation. This was attributed to the production of more surface defects on UV irradiation on Nd-doping.
