Olfactory ensheathing glia promote axonal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system,including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic ***,it is unknown whether olfactory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective *** ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic factor,one of the best neuroprotectants for axotomized retinal ganglion ***,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of olfactory ensheating glia after optic nerve *** ensheathing glia cells from an established rat immortalized clonal cell line,TEG3,were intravitreally injected in intact and axotomized retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic mode with or without microglial inhibition or immunosuppressive *** and gene expression analyses were *** bulb-derived primary olfactory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express major histocompatibility complex classⅡ*** and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous for up to 21 days,forming an *** axotomized retinas,only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 *** these retinas,microglial anatomical activation was higher than after optic nerve crush *** intact retinas,both transplants activated microglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days,a loss that was higher after allotransplantation,triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by microglial inhibition or ***,neuroprotection of axotomized retinal ganglion cells did not improve with these *** different neuroprotective properties,different toxic effects,and different responses to microglial inhibitory treatments of olfactory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of transplant highlight the importance of thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

Data-driven interatomic potentials have emerged as a powerful tool for approximating ab initio potential energy *** most time-consuming step in creating these interatomic potentials is typically the generation of a suitable training *** aid this process hyperactive learning(HAL),an accelerated active learning scheme,is presented as a method for rapid automated training database *** adds a biasing term to a physically motivated sampler(*** dynamics)driving atomic structures towards uncertainty in turn generating unseen or valuable training *** proposed HAL framework is used to develop atomic cluster expansion(ACE)interatomic potentials for the AlSi10 alloy and polyethylene glycol(pEG)polymer starting from roughly a dozen initial *** HAL generated ACE potentials are shown to be able to determine macroscopic properties,such as melting temperature and density,with close to experimental accuracy.

AIM To compare the effects of the four most commonly used preservation solutions on the outcome of liver *** A systematic literature search was performed using MEDLINE, Scopus, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library databases up to January 31^(st), 2017. The inclusion criteria were comparative, randomized controlled trials(RCTs) for deceased donor liver(DDL) allografts with adult and pediatric donors using the gold standard University of Wisconsin(UW) solution or histidinetryptophan-ketoglutarate(HTK), Celsior(CS) and Institut Georges Lopez(IGL-1) solutions. Fifteen RCTs(1830 livers) were included; the primary outcomes were primary non-function(pNF) and one-year posttransplant graft survival(OGS-1). RESULTS All trials were homogenous with respect to donor and recipient characteristics. There was no statistical difference in the incidence of pNF with the use of UW, HTK, CS and IGL-1(RR = 0.02, 95%CI: 0.01-0.03, p = 0.356). Comparing OGS-1 also failed to reveal any difference between UW, HTK, CS and IGL-1(RR = 0.80, 95%CI: 0.80-0.80, p = 0.369). Two trials demonstrated higher pNF levels for UW in comparison with the HTK group, and individual studies described higher rates of biliary complications where HTK and CS were used compared to the UW and IGL-1 solutions. However, the meta-analysis of the data did not prove a statistically significant difference: the UW, CS, HTK and IGL-1 solutions were associated with nearly equivalent *** Alternative solutions for UW yield the same degree of safety and effectiveness for the preservation of DDLs, but further well-designed clinical trials are warranted.

Many environmental chemicals and pesticides have been found to alter neuroendocrine communication in exposed biological objects. The environmental loads have primary and secondary effects that can alter the homeostatic regulation potential. Since it is difficult to avoid human exposition, a potentially important area of research to develop in vivo and in vitro experimental models. In this context, the primary aim of this study was to demonstrate the effects of chlorobenzenes on adrenocorticotrophic hormone（ACTH） release. In our experimental study, male Wistar rats were exposed to 0.1, 1.0 and 10 μg/b.w.（body weight） kg of 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene and hexachlorobenzene（Cl B） mix via gastric tube for 30, 60 or 90 days. At the endpoints of the experiment blood samples were taken and animals were decapitated. primary,monolayer adenohypophysis cell cultures were prepared by enzymatic and mechanical digestion. The ACTH hormone content in serum and supernatant media was measured by immuno-chemiluminescence assay. The Mg2＋-dependent ATpase activity was determined by modified method of Martin and Dotty. Significant differences were detected in the hormone release between the control and treated groups. The hormone release was enhanced characteristically in exposed groups depending upon the dose and duration of exposure. The Mg2＋-ATpase activity enhanced after chronic and subtoxic Cl B exposition. Light microscopy revealed that the adenohypophysis seemed to be more abundant. Results indicate that Wistar rats exposed to subtoxic Cl B have direct and indirect effects on hypothalamus–hypophysis–adrenal axis.

Efficiency of local minima and GLM techniques in sinkhole extraction from a LiDAR-based terrain model

The aim of this paper was to study reliable automated delineationpossibilities of karst sinkholes using a LiDAR-based digital terrain model(DTM) with pixel-based classifications. We applied two approaches toextract sinkholes: (1) general linear modeling (GLM) with morphometricindices derived from DTM;(2) and a local minima-based delineationusing only LiDAR DTM as the input layer. The outcome of the localminima was significantly different from the reference ones but found allthe sinkholes without previous knowledge of the area. The GLM-basedoutcome did not differ statistically from the reference. Results showedthat these approaches were efficient in detecting sinkholes based onLIDAR derivatives, and can be used for risk assessment and hazardpreparedness in karst areas: GLM had an overall accuracy of 89.5% andlocal minima had an accuracy of 92.3%;both methods identifiedsinkholes but also had commission errors, identifying depressions assinkholes.

Multi-exponential model to describe pressure-dependent p-and S-wave velocities and its use to estimate the crack aspect ratio

We present new quantitative model describing the pressure dependence of acoustic p-and S-wave *** that a variety of individual mechanisms or defects(such as cracks,pore collapse and grain crushing)can contribute to the pressure-dependent change of the wave velocity,we order a characteristic pressure to all of them and allow a series of exponential terms in the description of the(pand S-waves)velocity-pressure *** estimate the parameters of the multi-exponential rock physical model in inversion procedures using laboratory measured p-and S-wave velocity *** is known,the conventional damped least squares method gives acceptable results only when one or two individual mechanisms are *** the number of exponential terms leads to highly nonlinear ill-posed inverse *** to this reason,we develop the spectral inversion method(SIM)in which the velocity amplitudes(the spectral lines in the characteristic pressure spectrum)are only considered as *** characteristic pressures(belonging to the velocity amplitudes)are excluded from the set of inversion unknowns,instead,they are defined in a set of fixed positions equidistantly distributed in the actual interval of the independent variable(pressure).Through this novel linear inversion method,we estimate the parameters of the multi-exponential rock physical model using laboratory measured p-and S-wave velocity *** characteristic pressures are related to the closing pressures of cracks which are described by well-known rock mechanical relationships depending on the aspect ratio of elliptical *** gives the possibility to estimate the aspect ratios in terms of the characteristic pressures.

Chronic kidney disease severely deteriorates the outcome of gastrointestinal bleeding: A meta-analysis

AIM To understand the influence of chronic kidney disease(CKD) on mortality, need for transfusion and rebleeding in gastrointestinal(GI) bleeding *** A systematic search was conducted in three databases for studies on GI bleeding patients with CKD or endstage renal disease(ESRD) with data on outcomes of mortality, transfusion requirement, rebleeding rate and length of hospitalization(LOH). Calculations were performed with Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software using the random effects model. Heterogeneity was tested by using Cochrane's Q and I2 statistics. Mean difference(MD) and OR(odds ratio) were ***1063 articles(EMBASE: 589; pubM ed: 459; Cochrane: 15) were found in total. 5 retrospective articles and 1 prospective study were available for analysis. These 6 articles contained data on 406035 patients, of whom 51315 had impaired renal function. The analysis showed a higher mortality in the CKD group(OR = 1.786, 95%CI: 1.689-1.888, p p(OR = 2.530, 95%CI: 1.386-4.616, p = 0.002), and a rebleeding rate(OR = 2.510, 95%CI: 1.521-4.144, p patients with impaired renal function. CKD patients required more unit red blood cell transfusion(MD = 1.863, 95%CI: 0.812-2.915, p pent more time in hospital(MD = 13.245, 95%CI: 6.886-19.623, p patients. prospective patient registries and observational clinical trials are crucially needed.
