AIM： To investigate intestinal alkaline phosphatase （iAp） in the intestinal mucosa of children with inflammatory bowel disease （IBD）. METHODS： Colonic biopsy samples were taken from 15 newly diagnosed IBD patients and from 10 healthy controls. In IBD patients, specimens were obtainedboth from inflamed and non-inflamed areas. The lAp mRNA and protein expression was determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting analysis, respectively. Tissue localiza- tion of lAp and Toll-like receptor （TLR） 4 was investi- gated by immunofluorescent staining. RESULTS： The lAp protein level in the inflamed muco- sa of children with Crohn＇s disease （CD） and ulcerative colitis （UC） was significantly decreased when compared with controls （both p 〈 0.05）. Similarly, we found a significantly decreased level of lAp protein in the in- flamed mucosa in CD compared with non-inflamed mucosa in CD （p 〈 0.05）. In addition, the iAp protein level in inflamed colonic mucosa in patients with UC was decreased compared with non-inflamed mucosa in patients with CD （p 〈 0.05）. lAp protein levels in the non-inflamed mucosa of patients with CD were similar to controls, lAp mRNA expression in inflamed colonic mucosa of children with CD and UC was not significant- ly different from that in non-inflamed colonic mucosa with CD. Expression of lAp mRNA in patients with non- inflamed mucosa and in controls were similar. Co-local- ization of lAp with TLR4 showed intense staining with a dotted-like pattern, lAp was present in the inflamed and non-inflamed mucosa of patients with CD, UC, and in control biopsy specimens, irrespective of whether it was present in the terminal ileum or in the colon. However, the fluorescent signal of TLR4 was more pro- nounced in the colon compared with the terminal ileum in all groups studied. The study of embryonic stem cells is in the spotlight in many laboratories that study the structure and function of chromatin and epigenetic processes. The key properties of embryonic stem cells are their capacity for selfrenewal and their pluripotency. pluripotent stem cells are able to differentiate into the cells of all three germ layers, and because of this property they represent a promising therapeutic tool in the treatment of diseases such as parkinson's disease and diabetes, or in the healing of lesions after heart attack. As the basic nuclear unit, chromatin is responsible for the regulation of the functional status of cells, including pluripotency and differentiation. Therefore, in this review we discuss the functional changes in chromatin during differentiation and the correlation between epigenetics events and the differentiation potential of embryonic stem cells. In particular we focus on post-translational histone modification, DNA methylation and the heterochromatin protein Hp1 and its unique function in mouse and human embryonic stem cells.

AIM To analyze the effect of intralesional steroid injections in addition to endoscopic dilation of benign refractory esophageal *** A comprehensive search was performed in three databases from inception to 10 April 2017 to identify trials, comparing the efficacy of endoscopic dilation to dilation combined with intralesional steroid injections. Following the data extraction, meta-analytical calculations were performed on measures of outcome by the randomeffects method of Der Simonian and Laird. Heterogeneity of the studies was tested by Cochrane's Q and I^2 statistics. Risk of quality and bias was assessed by the Newcastle Ottawa Scale and JADAD assessment *** Eleven articles were identified suitable for analyses, involving 343 patients, 235 cases and 229 controls in total. Four studies used crossover design with 121 subjects enrolled. The periodic dilation index(pDI) was comparable in 4 studies, where the pooled result showed a significant improvement of pDI in the steroid group(MD:-1.12 dilation/month, 95% CI:-1.99 to -0.25 p = 0.012; I^2 = 74.4%). The total number of repeat dilations(TNRD) was comparable in 5 studies and showed a non-significant decrease(MD:-1.17, 95%CI:-0.24-0.05, p = 0.057; I^2 = 0), while the dysphagia score(DS) was comparable in 5 studies and did not improve(SMD: 0.35, 95%CI:-0.38, 1.08, p = 0.351; I^2 = 83.98%) after intralesional steroid *** Intralesional steroid injection increases the time between endoscopic dilations of benign refractory esophageal strictures. However, its potential role needs further research.

Organosulfur compounds,present in *** pulp and paper industry,biogas and natural gas,need to be removed as they potentially affect human health and harm the *** treatment of organosulfur compounds is a challenge,as an economically feasible technology is *** this study,we demonstrate that organosulfur compounds can be degraded to sulfide in bioelectrochemical systems(BESs).Methanethiol,ethanethiol,propanethiol and dimethyl disulfide were supplied separately to the biocathodes of BESs,which were controlled at a constant current density of 2 A/m^(2) and 4 A/m^(2).The decrease of methanethiol in the gas phase was correlated to the increase of dissolved sulfide in the liquid phase.A sulfur recovery,as sulfide,of 64% was found over 5 days with an addition of 0.1 mM *** recoveries over 22 days with a total organosulfur compound addition of 1.85 mM were 18% for methanethiol and ethanethiol,17% for propanethiol and 22% for dimethyl *** sulfide was formed in electrochemical nor biological control experiments,demonstrating that both current and microorganisms are required for the conversion of organosulfur *** new application of BES for degradation of organosulfur components may unlock alternative strategies for the abatement of anthropogenic organosulfur emissions.
