Background/Objectives: The objective of this clinical study was to evaluatethe efficacy of a combined topical ointment containing calcipotriol50μg/gplus betamethasone dipropionate0.5mg/g in the treatment of mild to moderatepsoriasis vulgaris on the trunk and limbs. Methods: This study was an open-label, non-randomized, clinicalobservational study. A combination topical ointment containing calcipotriolplus betamethasone dipropionate was applied once daily on100targetedlesions of psoriasis vulgaris, from the trunk, limbs in52subjects. Theeffectiveness of the combined topical ointment was evaluated by psoriasisArea and Severity Index （pASI）. The primary response criteria werepercentage reduction in pASI score from baseline to the end of （1to10） weeksof treatment. Results: The mean reduction in pASI from mean baseline pASI of9.6to theend of10weeks of treatment was56.35%, without any substantial drugadverse reactions notified. At week10, a statistically significantly （p＜0.0001）was achieved in comparison with the pASI score at baseline. Conclusions: Once a day treatment with the combined topical ointmentcontaining calcipotriol50μg/g plus betamethasone diproprionate0.5mg/g is asafe and effective therapeutic regimen for psoriasis vulgaris on the body.

喜马拉雅碰撞造山过程:变质地质学视角

本文从变质地质学视角出发,介绍了喜马拉雅造山带的研究意义、地质概况和近年来作者在喜马拉雅碰撞造山过程研究中的进展。喜马拉雅造山带是威尔逊旋回中陆陆碰撞造山带的典型代表,从中揭示的大陆碰撞造山过程、规律及效应,可为探索地球从古至今的碰撞造山带演化研究所借鉴。其中,大陆碰撞造山机制的研究是其核心内容。大陆碰撞造山机制存在临界楔和隧道流两种端元模型之争,其分别对造山带核部高级变质岩折返的p-T-t轨迹和时空演化序列进行了不同的预测。上述争议可通过研究喜马拉雅核部高级变质岩(高喜马拉雅)的p-T-t轨迹和折返过程来限定,据此可将喜马拉雅碰撞造山过程划分为三个演化阶段。阶段一:60~40 Ma,软碰撞期,造山带地壳加厚至约40 km并发生小规模部分熔融,这些早期地壳加厚记录大多已被剥蚀,零星保存于前陆飞来峰和北喜马拉雅片麻岩穹隆中;喜马拉雅山从海平面以下抬升至>1000 m。阶段二:40~16 Ma,硬碰撞期,造山带地壳加厚至60~70 km,发生大规模高级变质和深熔作用,高喜马拉雅内部的三个次级岩片沿着“原喜马拉雅逆冲断层”、“高喜马拉雅逆冲断层”、“主中央逆冲断层”顺序式向南挤出,形成了现今喜马拉雅造山带的核部主体,地壳堆叠使喜马拉雅山快速隆升至≥5000 m。阶段三:16~0 Ma,晚碰撞期,造山带山根榴辉岩化发生局部拆沉,但大陆汇聚仍在持续、造山带尚未发生垮塌,小喜马拉雅折返、前陆盆地形成,喜马拉雅山达到和维持现今平均高度~6000 m。因此,喜马拉雅生长过程的一级次序是顺序式向南扩展的,受控于临界楔模型,而隧道流只起次级作用。山根深部热流过程对造山带的地壳结构和地表高程有巨大的改造作用。未来对喜马拉雅造山带的变质地质学研究可能存在以下几个关键科学问题:(1)喜马拉雅极端变质作用与重大碰撞造山事件的关联;(2)喜马拉雅稀有金属成矿与接触变质作用的关联;(3)喜马拉雅变质脱碳作用与大陆碰撞带深部碳循环和通量。

Objective:To detect extended spectrumβ-lactamase(ESBL)and determine its prevalence in various clinical samples collected from Dehradun City ***:The samples were first cultured in MacConkey’s agar plates by streak plate method,then identified by Gram staining and biochemical *** isolated bacterial strains were then tested for antibiotic susceptibility by Kirby-Bauer *** ESBL detection is then carried out by double disc diffusion ***:Off the 56 samples cultured,21 strains were identified which were six Escherichia coli(***),six Klebsiella,four proteus,four pseudomonas aeruginosa(***)and only one *** out of 21(38.1%)strains including three of ***,three of Klebsiella and two of ***,were found to be resistance to all five antibiotics(piperacillin,amikacin,ampicillin,gentamicin,and ciprofloxacin).Initial screening using four antibiotics(cefotaxime,ceftazidime,aztreonam and ceftriaxone)and the final confirmatory test using ceftazidime/clavulanic acid and ceftazidime alone showed that 19.05%of all strains isolated were ESBL ***,16.67%***,16.67%Klebsiella pneumoniae,25%*** and 100%Acinetobacter were found to be ESBL ***:Antibiotic resistance by ESBL has become a major risk factor worldwide,therefore routine checkup and accordingly prescription are suggested.

Forest fires are one of the major environmental issues *** Nepal,substantial amounts of forest biomass and carbon are lost due to ***’s high value lowland forests are particularly vulnerable to ***,there are limited studies on the estimation of biomass loss and carbon emissions due to ***,this research addresses the information gap in the tropical mixed broad-leaved forests of Nawalparasi *** forests were divided into three strata:Lower Tropical Sal Mixed Broad-leaved Forest,Hill Sal Forest and Riverine Forest,and from these four community-managed forests were selected for estimating above ground ***-two sample plots were set out for above ground biomass estimation in burnt and non-burnt *** fire incidences from 2001 to 2017 were acquired from the MODIS fire *** biomass and carbon emissions were estimated using standard allometric *** fuel fraction consumed during the fire was estimated through field surveys during the forest fire *** results show that every year,over 3158 ha of forests are burnt,resulting in some 1108 tons of carbon emissions,equivalent to approximately 4066 t CO_(2),2581 t CO and 1474 t *** the forests,the Hill Sal Forest was more vulnerable to *** management strategies,therefore,should include construction of fire lines and conservation ponds along with capacity building and raising awareness among local communities and stakeholders.

Effects of 42-year long-term fertilizer management on soil phosphorus availability, fractionation,adsorption–desorption isotherm and plant uptake in flooded tropical rice

Soil phosphorus(p) fractionation, adsorption, and desorption isotherm, and rice yield and p uptake were investigated in flooded tropical rice(Oryza sativa L.) following 42-year fertilizer and manure application. The treatments included low-input [unfertilized control without N, p, or K(C0N0)], farmyard manure(FYM)(C1N0), Np(C0Np), NpK(C0NpK), FYM + Np(C1Np), and high-input treatment, FYM + NpK(C1NpK). Grain yield was increased significantly by 74%over the control under the combined application of FYM + NpK. However, under low- and high-input treatments, yield as well as p uptake was maintained at constant levels for 35 *** the same period, high yield levels and p uptake were maintained under the C0 Np, C0 NpK,and C1 NpK treatments. These are unique characteristics of a tropical flooded ecosystem, which is a self-sustaining system for rice production. The Fe–p fraction was highest compared to the Ca–p and Al–p fractions after 42 years of fertilizer application and was significantly higher under FYM + NpK treatment. The p adsorption capacity of soil was highest under the low-input treatment and lowest under long-term balanced fertilization(FYM + NpK). In contrast, p desorption capacity was highest under NpK and lowest in the control treatment. Long-term balanced fertilization in the form of FYM + NpK for 42 years lowered the bonding energy and adsorption capacity for p in soil but increased its desorption potential, increasing p availability to the plant and leading to higher p uptake and yield maintenance.

Synthesis, IR and Raman Spectroscopic Studies of (Ba,Sr)TiO3Borosilicate Glasses with Addition of La2O3

A series of glasses were prepared by rapid melt quench method in the glass system (65-x)[(Ba0.6Sr0.4)TiO3]-30[2SiO2-B2O3]-5[K2O]-x[La2O3] (x = 0, 1, 2, 5 and 10). X-ray diffraction of glass samples were carried to check its amorphousity. Density of glass samples were measured using Archimedes principle. The refractive index of these glass samples lies between 2.39 to 2.80. Optical properties of these glass samples were studied using Infrared (IR) and Raman spectroscopic techniques. IR measurements were done over a continous spectral range 450 - 4000 cm-1 to study their stucture networking systematically while Raman spectra were recorded over a continous spectral range 200 - 2000 *** spectra of all glass samples showed number of absorption peaks. These absorption peaks occurs due to asymetric vibrational streching of borate by relaxation of the bond B-O of trigonal BO3. The Raman spectra of all glass samples exhibited different spectral bands and intensity of these bands changes drastically. The network structure of these glass samples is mainly based on BO3 and BO4 units placed in different structural groups.

Iridium Implantation in T1 and T2 Cancers of Anterior Tongue: Report from B. p. Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Nepal

Early stage cancers of tongue are treated traditionally with a wide local excision or hemiglossectomy, but the preservation of normal speech and swallowing are hampered. Most of the patients are treated with external beam irradiation to achieve the best locoregional control as only a limited number of tongue cancers can be excised. Underdeveloped nations with finite resources are still dependent on cobalt based external beam radiotherapy and sometimes a Linear Accelerator with two dimensional planning. This treatment has many limitations, as the large radiation fields irradiate not only the tumor but also normal tissue. The sequalae include mucositis, dry mouth, teeth and gum injury, spinal cord damage and rarely mandibular necrosis. Intensity modulated radiotherapy, which can abrogate these side effects, is not available to these patients. Irradiation using implanted solid radioactive sources into the tumor tissue is a viable option in this context. This kind of treatment is termed as brachytherapy and if the implant is introduced into the tissue then it is interstitial brachytherapy. This report details our experience in interstitial implantation, planning, dosimetry and treatment. Diagnosed cancers of anterior 2/3rd of lateral border of tongue with T1 N0M0 or T2 N0M0 stages were subjected to Iridium implantation under general anesthesia. Orthogonal films were taken and planning done with brachyvision treatment planning system. High dose rate radiotherapy was delivered as per the prescription. Excellent local control of the tumor was achieved with no undue morbidity to the adjacent structures. The patients were asked to undergo regular follow up. Surgical salvage was advised in cases of nodal recurrence. Interstitial implantation is a treatment that can be safely administered in early stage cancers of the tongue. This has remarkable efficacy and is also a patient friendly procedure.

Influence of putrescine on Enzymes of Ammonium Assimilation in Maize Seedling

The effect of different concentrations of putrescine on biochemical changes in root and shoot of six days old maize seedlings in terms of enzymes of ammonium assimilation were examined. The results revealed that glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH) activity was enhanced at lower concentration of putrescine but at higher concentration, the activity of this enzyme was declined. Glutamine synthetase (GS) activity decreased with increase in concentration of putrescine and it was highest at 1000 μm concentration. Howe ver, glutamate synthase (GOGAT) activity increased with increase in concentration of putrescine upto 100 μm in root and upto 50 μm in shoot and further increase in concentration resulted in decline of enzymatic activity. protein and total nitrogen content increased upto 10 μm concentration of putrescine and it decreased further with increase in concentration both in root and shoot of maize seedling.
