BACKGROUND With an ongoing demand for transplantable organs,optimization of donor management protocols,specifically in trauma populations,is important for obta-ining a high yield of viable organs per *** management of brain-dead potential organ donors(BpODs)is controversial,leading to heterogeneous clinical management *** studies have shown that when levo-thyroxine was combined with other treatments,including steroids,vasopressin,and insulin,BpODs had better organ recovery and survival outcomes were increased for transplant *** To determine if levothyroxine use in combination with steroids in BpODs increased the number of organs donated in trauma *** A retrospective review of adult BpODs from a single level 1 trauma center over ten years was *** criteria included patients who were not solid organ donors,patients who were not declared brain dead(donation after circulatory death),and patients who did not receive steroids in their hospital *** and steroid administration,the number of organs donated,the types of organs donated,and demographic information were *** analyses were performed with psidered to be statistically *** A total of 88 patients met inclusion criteria,69(78%)of whom received levothyroxine and steroids(sT/LT group)vs 19(22%)receiving steroids without levothyroxine(sT group).No differences were observed between the groups for gender,race,pertinent injury factors,age,or other hormone therapies used(p>0.05).In the sT/LT group,68.1%(n=47)donated a high yield(3-5)of organ types per donor compared to 42.1%(n=8)in the sT group(p=0.038).There was no difference in the total number of organ types donated between the groups(p=0.068).CONCLUsION This study suggests that combining levothyroxine and steroid administration increases high-yield organ donation per donor in BpODs in the trauma patient *** to this study include

Root sprouts of Domesticated phaseolus coccineus L. Overwinter plants and the Environment at Its Collection sites

Buds emerge from the roots of domesticated runner bean plants (phaseolus coccineus L.) as sprouts and give the crop its persistence. This particularity of the species seems to be associated with the environment where the species was cultivated during long time. Data on regrowth traits were recorded on 70 accessions of domesticated p. coccineus after overwintering at a site in the central highlands of Mexico. The characteristics recorded included fresh weight of vegetative regrowth, root length, root crown diameter, and diameter of the main root. Most accessions that sprout the following spring, after the grain harvest of the previous year, come from temperate and semi-cold sites with cambisol and andosol soils in mixed Quercus pine forest and high mountain fir trees. Those that do not sprout are from sites of semiarid temperate climate, haplic phaeozem soil in shrub grasslands with deciduous broadleaved trees, and semiwarm subhumid climate, eutrophic regosol soil in deciduous broadleaved forest. Two types of roots were differentiated: branched and thickened taproots, also associated with a different climate, and the type of soil of the collection sites.

Validation of a preclinical dry eye model in New Zealand white rabbits during and following topical instillation of 1% ophthalmic atropine sulfate

Background : The objective of this study was to validate an animal model for dry eye during and after the administration of 1% ophthalmic atropine sulfate(OAs) in New Zealand white(NZW) *** : OAs(1%) was applied three times per day to 30 eyes of 15 healthy NZW rabbits. sacrifice, enucleation, and lacrimal gland removal took place on days 15, 21,and 30(OAs group). A second group(n = 5) was used as control. Clinical evaluations took place on days 3, 10, 15, 18, 21, 24 and 30. The primary endpoints were:schirmer I test, tear break-up time(TBUT), and corneal fluorescein staining. As secondary endpoints, clinical changes including intraocular pressure, and histopathology were *** : While OAs was administered, the schirmer I test showed a statistically significant reduction for OAs group versus control( p sus basal production( p showed statistically significant differences between groups(days 3 and 10;p = 0.001) and versus basal values(day 3;p scein staining showed a statistically significant difference(day 3;p = 0.001). The aims of this study are to determine the population genetic structure of Rhizoctonia solani,associated with potato,and to assess its resistance degree to pencycuron and thiabendazole fungicides.A total of 57 strains of *** were isolated from different potato crop fields in Mexico,and were classified according to their anastomosis group(AG)using the polymerase chain reaction(pCR)and restriction fragment length polymorphism(RFLp)-based ***,the amplified fragments were digested with four different endonucleases(Mse I,Ava II,Mun I and Hinc II).The Repetitive Element sequence-Based pCR(rep-pCR)technique was used to determine the genetic diversity in *** *** obtained by pCR-RFLp showed that 81%of the isolates were identified as belonging to AG-3 group,14%to AG1-1B and 5%to AG-11 *** response to fungicides inhibition,IC_(50)between 0.014-0.039 mg a.i./L for pencycuron,and 0.82 to 2.91 for thiabendazole were determined,This IC_(50)value showed that the resistance factor(RF)values ranged from 1.4 to 3.945 and 0.27 to 0.97,respectively;this tendency suggests that isolates are susceptible to *** AG groups showed a heterogeneous resistance to pencycuron and thiabendazole,being more tolerant to these fungicides AG1-1B and AG-11 *** genetic analysis shows a low genetic diversity among(p-value 0.3225)and within(p-value 0.3275)populations;this can indicate a clonal reproduction and little parasexual cycle among the analyzed isolations.

AIM: To analyze the attitude of spanish medical students toward living liver donation (LLD) and to establish which factors have an influence on this ***: study type: A sociological, interdisciplinary, multicenter and observational study. study population: Medical students enrolled in spain (n = 34000) in the university academic year 2010-2011. sample size: A sample of 9598 students stratified by geographical area and academic year. Instrument used to measure attitude: A validated questionnaire (pCID-DVH RIOs) was self-administered and completed anonymously. Data collection procedure: Randomly selected medical schools. The questionnaire was applied to each academic year at compulsory sessions. statistical analysis: student´s t test, χsup>2sup> test and logistic regression ***: The completion rate was 95.7% (n = 9275). 89% (n = 8258) were in favor of related LLD, and 32% (n = 2937) supported unrelated LLD. Altered expression patterns of syndecan-1 and ,2 predicl biochemical recurrence in prostate cancer

The clinical features of prostate cancer do not provide an accurate determination of patients undergoing biochemical relapse and are therefore not suitable as indicators of prognosis for recurrence. New molecular markers are needed for proper pre-treatment risk stratification of patients. Our aim was to assess the value of altered expression of syndecan-1 and -2 as a marker for predicting biochemical relapse in patients with clinically localized prostate cancer treated by radical prostatectomy. The expression of syndecan-1 and -2 was examined by immunohistochemical staining in a series of 60 paraffin-embedded tissue samples from patients with localized prostate cancer. Ten specimens from patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia were used as non-malignant controls. semiquantitative analysis was performed to evaluate the staining patterns. To investigate the prognostic value, Kaplan-Meier survival curves were performed and compared by a log-rank test. In benign samples, syndecan-1 was expressed in basal and secretory epithelial cells with basolateral membrane Iocalisation, whereas syndecan-2 was expressed preferentially in basal cells. In prostate cancer samples, the expression patterns of both syndecans shifted to granular-cytoplasmic Iocalisation. survival analysis showed a significant difference （p〈0.05） between normal and altered expression of syndecan-1 and -2 in free prostate-specific antigen recurrence survival curves. These data suggest that the expression of syndecan-1 and -2 can be used as a prognostic marker for patients with clinically localized orostate cancer, improving the larostate-specific antigen recurrence risk stratification.

Flame Thermal spray (FTs) coatings frequently show some porosity and reduced adherence to substrate, which affect its properties, especially its corrosion resistance. In this work, the corrosion resistance of AIsI 1018 carbon steel coated by different methods is compared: electroless nickel (EN) coating, NiCrFeBsi obtained by FTs, duplex coatings of an EN deposit on a layer of NiCrFeBsi obtained by FTs and a layer of NiCrFeBsi on an EN deposit. The coatings were characterized using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy techniques, EDs microprobe microanalysis, roughness as well as electrochemical p.larization tests to obtain the corrosion rate. The results show the enhancement in the corrosion resistance in saline medium of the duplex coatings, especially of the EN coating on FTs layer.

physicochemical, functional and digestibility analyses were done of dehydrated quail egg white to determine its possible practical applications. Quail egg white was dehydrated by air convection using one of two temperatures and times: M1 (65℃, 3.5 h), M2 (65℃, 5.0 h), M3 (70℃, 3.5 h) and M4 (70℃, 5.0 h). Lyophilized quail egg white was used as a standard. All four air-dried treatments had good protein levels (92.56% to 93.96%), with electrophoresis showing the predominant proteins to be lysozyme, ovalbumin and ovotransferin. Denaturation temperatures ranged from 81.16℃ to 83.85℃ and denaturation enthalpy values from 5.51 to 9.08 J/g. Treatments M1-4 had lower water-holding (0.90 - 2.95 g/g) and oil-holding (0.92 - 1.01 g/g) capacities than the lyophilized treatment (4.5 g/g, 1.95 g/g, respectively). Foaming capacity was pH-dependent in all five treatments, with the lowest values at alkaline pH and the highest (153% to 222%) at acid pH (pH 2). Foam stability was lowest at acid pH and highest at alkaline pH. Emulsifying activity in the air-dried treatments was highest at pH 8 (41% - 46%). Emulsion stability was pH-dependent and highest in M3 between pH 2 and 4 (96.16% to 95.74%, respectively). In the air-dried treatments, in vitro protein digestibility was as high as 83.02% (M3).
