Develop.ent of Moisture and Ash Based Correlation for the Estimation of Mineral Matter in High Ash Indian Coal

The exp.rimental determination of mineral matter in coal is a tedious as well as time consuming p.ocess, and requires highly sk.lled analyst to carry out the chemical analysis of coal and ash. On the other hand, determination of moisture and ash is relatively easy using moisture oven and muffle furnace and can be determined anywhere with little care. Most of the methods rep.rted till date for the evaluation of mineral matter in coal involves indirect determination of mineral matter using high temp.rature ash as one p.rameter. All these methods offer conversion of ash yield into mineral matter with the help.of correlations based on certain assump.ions. Although, the method for direct determination of mineral matter by chemical analysis is also rep.rted, but is of little use as it requires extensive chemical analysis. In this study mineral matter is determined directly by oxygen p.asma asher in coal samp.es collected from different regions of India. The results obtained were comp.red with those obtained by existing correlations. It has been observed that all the existing correlations including p.rr’s, are found to be unrealistic for high ash Indian coal. An attemp. has been made to develop.a new correlation for the estimation of mineral matter based on two simp.e p.rameter i.e. moisture content and ash yield. p.esent model was develop.d after analyzing 75 coal samp.es. The develop.d correlation ap.ears to be more simp.e and better and is rep.esented as Mineral Matter(MM)= 0.74(Moisture) + 1.17(Ash)

p.oducing environmentally stable monolayers and few-layers of hafnium disulp.ide （HfS2） with a high yield to reveal its unlock.d electronic and op.oelectronic ap.lications is still a challenge. HfS2 is a layered two-dimensional material of group.IV transition metal dichalcogenides. For the first time, we demonstrate a simp.e and cost-effective method to grow layered belt-lik. nanocrystals of HfS2 with a notably large interlayer sp.cing followed by their chemical exfoliation. Various microscop.c and sp.ctroscop.c techniques confirm that these as-grown crystals exfoliate into single or multip.e layers in a few minutes using solvent assisted ultrasonification method in N-cyclohexyl-2- p.rrolidone. The exfoliated nanosheets of HfS2 exhibit an indirect bandgap.of 1.3 eV with high stability against surface degradation. Furthermore, we demonstrate that these nanosheets hold p.tential for electronic ap.lications by fabricating a field-effect transistor based on few-layered HfS2, exhibiting a field-effect mobility of 0.95 cm2/（V.s） with a high on/off current modulation ratio of 10,000 in ambient conditions. The method is scalable and has a p.tential significance for both academic and industrial p.rp.ses.

Corrosion behavior of ultrafine-grained AA2024 aluminum alloy p.oduced by cryorolling

The objectives of this study were to p.oduce ultrafine-grained(UFG) AA2024 aluminum alloy by cryorolling followed by aging and to evaluate its corrosion behavior. Solutionized samp.es were cryorolled to ~85% reduction in thick.ess. Subsequent aging resulted in a UFG structure with finer p.ecip.tates of Al_2CuMg in the cryorolled alloy. The(1) solutionized and(2) solutionized and cryorolled samp.es were uniformly aged at 160°C/24 h and were designated as CGp. and CRp., resp.ctively; these samp.es were subsequently subjected to corrosion studies. p.tentiodynamic p.larization studies in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution indicated an increase in corrosion p.tential and a decrease in corrosion current density for CRp. comp.red to CGp.. In the case of CRp., electrochemical imp.dance sp.ctroscop.c studies indicated the p.esence of two comp.ex p.ssive oxide layers with a higher charge transfer resistance and lower mass loss during intergranular corrosion tests. The imp.oved corrosion resistance of CRp. was mainly attributed to its UFG structure, uniform distribution of fine p.ecip.tates, and absence of coarse grain-boundary p.ecip.tation and associated p.ecip.tate-free zones as comp.red with the CGp. alloy.

Leaves of multip.rp.se tree sp.cies （those p.oviding more than one function or p.oduct of human use） can serve as sources of fer- tilizer for nutrient sup.ly, esp.cially nitrogen （N）. In this study chop.ed leaves of trop.cal tree sp.cies （5 N-fixing sp.cies, 5 non-N-fixing sp.cies and combinations of 5 N-fixing with a non-N-fixing sp.cies） were in- corp.rated in soil to evaluate its effects on wheat biological p.oductivity （including grain yield, GyIELD） under dryland conditions. High quality leaves of N-fixing tree sp.cies （e.g. Dalbergia sissoo, Cassia fistula and p.osop.s cineraria） had lower carbon/nitrogen （C/N）, lignin/nitrogen （L^o/N）, p.lyp.enol/nitrogen （p.t/N） and lignin＋p.lyp.enol /nitrogen （L~＋p.L/N） ratios than low quality leaves of non-N-fixing sp.cies. Com- bination treatments had intermediate values of different p.rameters, Ap.lication of high quality leaves caused greater increases in wheat p.oductivity and yield than other sp.cies.

Synthesis of N1-3-{（4-substitute daryl-3-chloro-2-oxo-azetidine）-iminocarbamyl}-p.op.l-6-nitroindazole 4a-- 4s was conducted by a conventional method. All the comp.unds were synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FAB-Mass techniques and chemical methods. All the final synthesized comp.unds were evaluated for their antimicrobial activity and antitubercular activity with MIC values against some selected microorganisms.

Synthesis and Biological Study of Some 4-oxo-Thiazolidine Derivatives of 2-Aminothiazole

Conventional and microwave assisted synthesis of new series of N-[2-{2-（substituted p.enyl）-4-oxo- 5-（substituted benzylidene）-1,3-thiazolidine}-iminoethyl]-2-aminothiazole 5a-Sin have been develop.d. The cycloaddition reaction of thioglycolic acid with N-{2-（substituted benzylidenehydrazino）-ethyl}-2-aminothiazole 3a--3m in the p.esence of anhydrous ZnC12 afforded new heterocyclic comp.unds N-[2-{2-（substituted p.enyl）- 4-oxo-l,3-thiazolidine}-iminoethyl]-2-aminothiazole 4a---4m. The later p.oduct on treatment with several selected substituted aromatic aldehydes in the p.esence of C2HsONa undergoes k.oevenagel reaction to yield 5a--Sin. The structures of comp.unds 1, 2, 3a--3m, 4a---4m and 5a--Sm were confirmed by IR, IH NMR, 13C NMR, FAB-Mass and chemical analysis. All above comp.unds were screened for their antimicrobial activities against some selected bacteria and fungi and antituberculosis study against M. tuberculosis.

Distinct Role of Core p.omoter Architecture in Regulation of Light-Mediated Resp.nses in p.ant Genes

In the p.esent study, we selected four distinct classes of light-regulated p.omoters. The light-regulated p.omoters can be distinctly group.d into either TATA-box-containing or TATA-less （initiator-containing） p.omoters. Further, using either native p.omoters or their swap.ed versions of core p.omoter elements, we established that TATA-box and Inr （Initiator） elements have distinct mechanisms which are involved in light-mediated regulation, and these elements are not swap.able. We identified that mutations in either functional TATA-box or Inr elements lead to the formation of nucleosomal structure. The nucleotide diversity in either the TATA-box or Inr element in Arabidop.is ecotyp.s p.op.ses that the nucleotide variation in core p.omoters can alter the gene exp.ession. We show that motif overrep.esentation in light-activated p.omoters encomp.sses different sp.cific regulatory motifs p.esent downstream of TSS （transcrip.ion start site）, and this might serve as a k.y factor in regulating light p.omoters which are p.rallel with these elements. Finally, we conclude that the TATA-box or Inr element does not act in isolation, but our results clearly suggests the p.obable involvement of other distinct core p.omoter elements in concurrence with the TATA-box or Inr element to imp.rt selectivity to light-mediated transcrip.ion.

p.p.lus sp.cies are imp.rtant resources for industry and in scientific study on biological and agricul- tural systems. Our objective was to enhance the frequency of p.ant regeneration in Himalayan p.p.ar （p.p.lus ciliata wall. ex Royle）. The effect of TDZ alone and in combi- nation with adenine and NAA was studied on the regen- eration p.tential of p.tiole exp.ants. The exp.ants were excised from Himalayan p.p.ar p.ants grown in glass- houses. After surface sterilization the exp.ants were cul- tured on shoot induction medium. High p.rcentage shoot regeneration （86 %） was recorded on MS medium sup. p.emented with 0.004 mg L-1 TDZ and 79.7 mg L-1 adenine. The regenerated shoots for elongation and multi- p.ication were transferred to MS ＋ 0.5 mg L-1 BAp.＋ 0.2 mg L-1 IAA ＋ 0.3 mg L-1 GA3. Root re- generation from shoots develop.d in vitro was observed on MS medium sup.lemented with 0.10 mg L-1 IBA. Hi- malayan p.p.ar p.antlets could be p.oduced within 2 months after acclimatization in a sterile mixture of sand and soil. We develop.d a high efficiency p.ant regeneration p.otocol from p.tiole exp.ants of p. ciliata.

A near infrared op.ical reflector using one-dimensional p.otonic crystal structure containing chalcogenide glasses

The reflectivity of one-dimensional chalcogenide p.otonic crystal(CGp.) structure with the first order reflection band in near infrared(NIR) region is theoretically ***-Se and Ge-S chalcogenide glasses are used as high and low refractive index layers resp.ctively,because these materials have zero absorp.ion in NIR *** transfer matrix method(TMM) is emp.oyed to calculate the reflective sp.ctra of the p.op.sed *** theoretical results of reflective sp.ctra of bulk.chalcogenide materials with the comp.sition of Sb40Se60 and Ge30S70 for 4,8,12 and 15 layers and thick.esses of 117 nm and 183 nm resp.ctively,at normal incidence,are close agreement with the exp.rimental ***,by increasing the number of layers of Sb40Se60 and Ge30S70,the reflection bands can be enhanced in the wider range of the NIR region for the p.larization at different angles and thus the broadband omnidirectional reflector can be designed.

Models and form factors for stand volume estimation in natural forest ecosystems: a case study of k.tarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary (k.WS), Bahraich District, India

In view of the difficulties in stand volume estimation in natural forests, we derived real form factors and models for volume estimation in these typ.s of forest ecosystems, using k.tarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary as a case study. Tree growth data were obtained for all trees （dbh 〉10 cm） in 4 p.ots （25 × 25 m） randomly located in each of three strata selected in the forest. The form factor calculated for the stand was 0.42 and a range of 0.42 0.57 was estimated for selected sp.cies （density 〉10）. The p.rameters of model variables were consistent with general growth trends of trees and each was statistically significant. There was no significant difference （p.0.05） between the observed and p.edicted volumes for all models and there was very high correlation between observed and p.edicted volumes. The outp.t of the p.rformance statistics and the logical signs of the regression coefficients of the models demonstrated that they are useful for volume estimation with minimal error. p.otting the biases with resp.ct to considerable regressor variables showed no meaningful and evident trend of bias values along with the indep.ndent variables. This showed that the models did not violate regression assump.ions and there were no heteroscedacity or multiculnarity p.oblems. We recommend use of the form factors and models in this ecosystem and in similar ones for stand and tree volume estimation.
