Assessment of the potential interactions between favipiravir and radiocontrast agents

BACKGROUND In cases of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),favipiravir is commonly included to the therapy *** interactions between favipiravir and other COVID-19 therapy drugs are frequently ***,no research on possible drug interactions between Favipiravir and radiocontrast agents,which have become almost crucial in diagnostic processes while not being part of the treatment,has been *** To determine potential medication interactions between Favipiravir and radiocontrast *** The study comprised patients who were taking Favipiravir for COVID-19 therapy and underwent a contrast-enhanced computed tomography(CT)or magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)test while taking the *** computerized patient files of the cases included in the study,as well as the pharmacovigilance forms in the designated hospital,were evaluated for this *** The study included the evaluation of data from 1046 *** study sample's mean age was 47.23±9.48 *** mean age of cases with drug interactions was statistically significant greater than that of cases with no drug interactions(P=0.003).When evaluated with logistic regression analysis,a 1-year raises in age increases the risk of developing drug interactions by 1.63 times(P=0.023).There was no statistically significant difference in the occurrence of medication interactions between the sexes(P=0.090).Possible medication interactions were discovered in 42 cases(4%).CONCLUSION The findings of this study revealed that the most notable findings as a result of the combined use of contrast agents and favipiravir were increased creatinine and transaminase values,as well as an increase in the frequency of nausea and *** majority of drug interactions discovered were modest enough that they were not reflected in the *** interactions become more common as people get older.

Tata-box-binding protein-associated factor 15 as a new potential marker in gastrointestinal tumors

In this editorial,the roles of tata-box-binding protein-associated factor 15(TAF15)in oncogenesis,tumor behavior,and as a therapeutic target in cancers in the context of gastrointestinal(GI)tumors are discussed concerning the publication by Guo et ***15 is a member of the FET protein family with a comprehensive range of cellular ***,evidence has shown that TAF15 is involved in many diseases,including ***15 contributes to carcinogenesis and tumor behavior in many ***,its relationship with the mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPK)signaling pathway makes TAF15 a new target for ***,the fact that there is few studies investigating the expression of TAF15 constitutes a potential limitation in GI system,the association of TAF15 expression with aggressive tumor behavior and,similar to other organ tumors,the influence of TAF15 on the MAPK signaling pathway emphasize that this protein could serve as a new molecular biomarker to predict tumor behavior and target therapeutic intervention in GI *** conclusion,more studies should be performed to better understand the prognostic and therapeutic role of TAF15 in GI tumors,especially in tumors resistant to therapy.

Interobserver variation in histopathological assessment of Helicobacter pylori gastritis

AIM:Because the presence or absence of H pylori infection has important implications for therapeutic decisions based on histological assessment,the reproducibility of Sydney system is *** study was designed to test the reproducibility of features of Helicobacter pylori gastritis, using the updated Sydney classification. METHODS:Gastric biopsies of 40 randomly selected cases of H pylori gastritis were scored semiquantitatively by three *** analysed induded chronic inflammation, inflammatory activity,atrophy,intestinal metaplasia,H pylori, surface epithelial damage.κ values below 0.5 represented poor,those between 0.5 and 0.75 good and values over 0.75 excellent interobserver agreement. RESULTS:The best interobserver agreement(κ=0.62)was present for intestinal *** agreement was the poorest for evaluating atrophy(κ=0.31). CONCLUSION:Although the results of this study were in accordance with some previous studies,an excellent agreement could not be reached for any features of H pylori *** low degree of concordance is assumed to be due to the personal evaluation differences in grading the features,the lack of standardized diagnostic criteria,and the ignorance to reach a consensus about the methods to be used in grading the features of H pylori gastritis before initiating the study.

Dear Editor, Burned-out tumors of the testis are extremely rare form oftesticular malignancies, and they could disappear or regress spontaneously and completely. These tumors could be presented by metastatic form in retroperitoneum, lungs, retroperitoneal lymph nodes, and liver. In recent studies, differential diagnosis, clinic features, treatment modalities and follow-up outcome of burned-out tumor from primary retroperitoneal germ cell tumor are discussed. If patient with retroperitoneal lymph node involvement and histology of ＂testicular tumor＂ burned-out tumor of the testis was suspected.

Gastric polypoid lesions:Analysis of 150 endoscopic polypectomy specimens from 91 patients

AIM:To analyze gastric polypoid lesions in our patient- population with respect to histopathologic features and demographic,clinical,and endoscopic characteristics of patients. METHODS:Clinical records and histopathologic reports of patients with gastric polypoid lesions were analyzed *** lesions had been totally removed by either endoscopic polypectomy or hot biopsy *** histopathologic slides were re-evaluated by the same histopathologist. RESULTS:One-hundred and fifty gastric polypoid lesions were identified in 91 *** were 53(58 %)women and 38(42 %)men with a median age of 53(range,31 to 82)*** most frequent presenting symptom was dyspepsia that was observed in 35(38.5 %)patients. Symptoms were mostly related to various associated gastric abnormalities such as chronic gastritis or H pylori infection rather than polypoid lesion *** lesions were commonly located in the antrum followed by *** of 150 lesions,80(53 %)had the largest dimensions less than or equal to 5 mm and only 7 were *** frequencies of hyperplastic polyps,foveolar hyperplasia,and fundic gland polyps were 46 %,18 %,and 14 % respectively. We also detected gastritis varioliformis in 12 specimens, lymphoid follicles in 9,4 adenomatous polyps in 4,polypoid lesions with edematous mucosa in 4,inflammatory polyps in 3,and carcinoid tumor in *** changes were observed within two hyperplastic polyps and low grade dysplasia in one *** evaluation of the surrounding gastric mucosa demonstrated chronic gastritis in 72(79 %)patients and H pylori infection in 45(49 %). CONCLUSION:Hyperplastic polyps are the mbst frequently encountered subtype of gastric polypoid *** are usually associated with chronic gastritis or H pylori *** to the previous belief,they may harbour adenomatous changes or dysplastic foci.
