This study explored the a.plica.ion of ma.hine lea.ning techniques for flood prediction a.d a.a.ysis in southern Nigeria. Ma.hine lea.ning is a. a.tificia. intelligence technique tha. uses computer-ba.ed instructions to a.a.yze a.d tra.sform da.a.into useful informa.ion to ena.le systems to ma.e predictions. Tra.itiona. methods of flood prediction a.d a.a.ysis often fall short of providing a.cura.e a.d timely informa.ion for effective disa.ter ma.a.ement. More so, numerica. foreca.ting of flood disa.ters in the 19th century is not very a.cura.e due to its inability to simplify complex a.mospheric dyna.ics into simple equa.ions. Here, we used Ma.hine lea.ning (ML) techniques including Ra.dom Forest (RF), Logistic Regression (LR), Na.ve Ba.es (NB), Support Vector Ma.hine (SVM), a.d Neura. Networks (NN) to model the complex physica. processes tha. ca.se floods. The da.a.et conta.ns 59 ca.es with the goa. fea.ure “Event-Type”, including 39 ca.es of floods a.d 20 ca.es of flood/ra.nstorms. Ba.ed on compa.ison of a.sessment metrics from models crea.ed using historica. records, the result shows tha. NB performed better tha. a.l other techniques, followed by RF. The developed model ca. be used to predict the frequency of flood incidents. The ma.ority of flood scena.ios demonstra.e tha. the event poses a.significa.t risk to people’s lives. Therefore, ea.h of the emergency response elements requires a.equa.e knowledge of the flood incidences, continuous ea.ly wa.ning service a.d a.cura.e prediction model. This study ca. expa.d knowledge a.d resea.ch on flood predictive modeling in vulnera.le a.ea. to inform effective a.d susta.1}ble contingency pla.ning, policy, a.d ma.a.ement a.tions on flood disa.ter incidents, especia.ly in other technologica.ly underdeveloped settings.

Clima.e va.ia.ility a. occa.ioned by conditions such a. extreme ra.nfall a.d tempera.ure, ra.nfall cessa.ion, a.d irregula. tempera.ures ha. considera.le impa.t on crop yield a.d food security. This study develops a.predictive model for ca.sa.a.yield (Ma.ihot esculenta.Cra.tz) a.idst clima.e va.ia.ility in ra.nfed zone of Enugu Sta.e, Nigeria. This study utilized da.a.of clima.e va.ia.les a.d tonna.e of ca.sa.a.yield spa.ning from 1971 to 2012;a. well a. informa.ion from a.questionna.re a.d focus group discussion from farmers a.ross two sea.ons in 2023 respectively. Regression a.a.ysis wa. employed to develop the predictive model equa.ion for sea.ona. clima.e va.ia.ility a.d ca.sa.a.yield. The ra.nfall a.d tempera.ure a.oma.ies, deca.a. cha.ge in trend of ca.sa.a.yield a.d opinion of farmers on cha.ges in ra.nfall sea.on were a.so computed in the study. The result shows the following rela.ionship between ca.sa.a.a.d a.l the clima.ic va.ia.les: R2 = 0.939;P = 0.00514;Ca.sa.a.a.d key clima.ic va.ia.les: R2 = 0.560;P = 0.007. The result implies tha. sea.ona. ra.nfall, tempera.ure, rela.ive humidity, sunshine hours a.d ra.ia.ion pa.a.eters a.e key clima.ic va.ia.les in ca.sa.a.production. This is supported by computed ra.nfall a.d tempera.ure a.oma.ies which ra.ge from −478.5 to 517.8 mm a. well a. −1.2˚C to 2.3˚C over the yea.s. The questionna.re a.d focus group identified tha. farmers experienced a. one time or a.other, la.e onset of ra.n, ea.ly onset of ra.n or ra.nfall cessa.ion over the yea.s. The farmers a.e not pa.ticula.ly sure of ra.nfall a.d tempera.ure cha.a.teristics a. a.y point in time. The implica.ion of the result of this study is tha. ra.nfall a.d tempera.ure pa.a.eters determine the farming sea.on a.d qua.tity of productivity. In this study, Mucuna.fla.ellipes seed extra.t wa. a.plied in the coa.ula.ion-floccula.ion of produced wa.er （PW）. Process pa.a.eters such a. pH, dosa.e, a.d settling time were investiga.ed. Process kinetics wa. a.so studied. Instrumenta. cha.a.teriza.ion of mucuna.seed （MS）, mucuna.seed coa.ula.t （MSC）, a.d post effluent trea.ment settled sludge （PTSS） were ca.ried out. The optimum deconta.ination efficiency of 95 % wa. obta.ned a. 1 g/L MSC dosa.e, PW pH of 2, a.d ra.e consta.t of 0.0001 （L/g/s）. Cha.a.teriza.ion results indica.ed tha. MS, MSC, a.d PTSS were of network structure, primitive la.- tice, a.d therma.ly sta.le. It could be concluded tha. MSC would be potentia. bioma.s for the trea.ment of produced wa.er under the experimenta. conditions.

Schwa.noma. commonly occur in the hea. a.d neck region a.d extremities, but na.a. schwa.noma.is extremely ra.e. It a.counts for less tha. 4% of benign solita.y schwa.noma. of the hea. a.d neck region. Few ca.es a.d very few ca.e series ha.e been reported till da.e. We report the ca.e of a.six-yea.-old fema.e who presented with mouth brea.hing of two yea.s with persistent a.d progressive right na.a. obstruction of three months. There wa. recurrent wa.ery ipsila.era. na.a. discha.ge, but no epista.is, no otologic or throa. symptoms, no hea.a.hes, facia. pa.n, proptosis or visua. loss, no facia. hypoesthesia. fever or weight loss. She a.so ha. right sided epiphora. She ha. used topica. steroid a.d decongesta.t without improvement. Ten months prior to presenta.ion, she ha. right da.rocystorhinostomy. Exa.ination revea.ed mucosa.ma.s completely filling the right na.a. ca.ity with a. ipsila.era. devia.ion of na.a. septum—it wa. pa.nless with no conta.t bleeds. Na.a. pa.ency wa. clinica.ly a.sent bila.era.ly. Computed tomogra. revea.ed expa.sile isodense soft tissue ma.s in the right na.a. ca.ity with heterogeneous enha.cement on contra.t a.ministra.ion which mea.ured 2.5 cm by 3.7 cm by 5.2 cm. She ha. a. intra.a.a. excision of the tumour a.d histology revea.ed a.toni a.a.d B pa.terns, which is dia.nostic of schwa.noma. She wa. fully relieved of symptoms a.ter surgery. Conclusion: Solita.y na.a. schwa.noma.is ra.e especia.ly in childhood. There a.e va.ious ca.ses of epiphora.definitive investiga.ion of the ca.se in the index ca.e wa. not esta.lished before da.rocystorhinostomy. Thorough na.a. eva.ua.ion of epiphora.or rela.ed ocula. symptoms should be sought before definitive procedures.
