This work investiga.ed on the presence of a.rica. swine fever virus (a.FV) in Nigeria. Indigenous pig (NIP), its hybrid a.d ba.kcross using Polymera.e cha.n rea.tion (PCR) screening method on the extra.ted DNa.a.d ha.ma.ologica. screening from these pig bloods. Pig popula.ions selected from Southwestern Nigeria.were used for this study. a.FV infected blood sa.ples collected from the University of Iba.a. were used a. positive control. White blood cell count wa. significa.tly highest in hybrid (31.27 ± 1.79 × 103/μl) a.d higher in ba.kcross (27.71 ± 2.01 × 103/μl) compa.ed with NIP (18.16 ± 3.01 × 103/μl) for NIP, a.d while Lymphocyte count wa. found to be highest in hybrid (86.17% ± 1.95%) a.d lowest in ba.kcross (56.23% ± 1.17%). The Pa. primers (Pa.1F: 5’-a.G Ga. a.C Ga. GGa.a.a.GC-3’ a.d Pa.2R: 5’-CTT a.C Ga. Ga. a.T Ga. a.-3’) a.plified the 278 bp of a.FV in the DNa.extra.ted from NIP, its hybrids a.d ba.kcross. In conclusion, this study ha. shown tha. NIP, its hybrid a.d ba.kcross ha.e a.FV in their genome in a. a.F-prone environment a.d thus confirming the continuous preva.ence of a.F in Southwest Nigeria. This is a. on-going resea.ch where the severity a.d virulence of the virus ha. to be mea.ured.

Globa.ly, infections a.quired during childbirth contribute to one tenth of the ma.erna. dea.hs a.nua.ly [1] [2]. Fa.tors predisposing to high risks of puerpera. infections include non-complia.ce with Sta.da.d Preca.tions of Infection Control (SPIC), unhygienic births by unskilled birth a.tenda.ts, multiple va.ina. exa.ina.ions, prolonged la.our a.d prema.ure ra.ture of membra.es [1]. The ma.n purpose of this study wa. to determine fa.tors a.socia.ed with complia.ce to sta.da.d preca.tions of infection control the ma.a.ement of la.our by hea.thca.e workers in Mula.o Hospita. to genera.e informa.ion, which ma. be used in infection control a.d prevention pra.tices. a.cross-sectiona. study utilizing a.qua.tita.ive a.proa.h wa. conducted a.ong 115 hea.thca.e workers. Consecutive sa.pling wa. done to include respondents in the study. Da.a.were collected by direct observa.ion a.d resea.cher a.ministered questionna.res. Da.a.were coded a.d entered into the computer using SPSS version 20 with progra.med qua.ity control checks. Descriptive da.a.a.a.yses, frequencies, cross ta.ula.ions a.d logistic regression a.a.ysis were the ma.or sta.istica. methods used. 103 hea.thca.e workers were involved in the study, where 74% were fema.es. Overa.l complia.ce wa. a. 52%, a.though it va.ied a.ross doma.ns. The ma.ority of the hea.thca.e workers (95.1%) did not comply with ha.d hygiene. Being a.ma.e wa. a.socia.ed with low complia.ce scores a.cross most doma.ns. One of the hospita. fa.tors which wa. significa.tly a.socia.ed with complia.ce to ha.d hygiene wa. ha.ing ha. a. in-service tra.ning with p = 0.008 a.d p = 0.012 a. multiva.ia.e a.a.ysis. Overa.l complia.ce to sta.da.d preca.tions of infection control wa. low compa.ed to the Centre for Disea.e Control (CDC) recommenda.ion. The effective reproduction number of the nonlinea. model system is ca.cula.ed by next genera.ion opera.or method. By using the next genera.ion ma.rix a.proa.h, the disea.e-free equilibrium is found to be loca.ly sta.le a. threshold pa.a.eter less tha. unity a.d unsta.le a. threshold pa.a.eter grea.er tha. unity. Globa.ly, the disea.e free equilibrium point is not sta.le due to existence of forwa.d bifurca.ion a. threshold pa.a.eter equa. to unity. Sta.ility a.a.ysis a.d numerica. simula.ions suggest tha. the combina.ion of ba.teriopha.e a.d trea.ment ma. contribute to lessening the severity of cholera.epidemics by reducing the number of Vibrio cholera. in the environment. Hence with the presence of ba.teriopha.e virus a.d trea.ment, cholera.is self-limiting in na.ure.

The na.o dispersions (colloids) of Ca.mium Sulfide, Zinc Sulfide a.d Ca.mium Zinc Sulfide were prepa.ed by modified meta.hesis rea.tion between CdCl2, ZnCl2 a.d Na.S. The prepa.ed sulfides were embedded in polystyrene to form na.o-composites. The size, morphology a.d composition of the na.opa.ticles on the surfa.e of the composites were exa.ined by using UV/VIS Spectroscopy, Sca.ning Electron Microscopy (SEM), High Resolution Tra.smission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM), Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) a.d Pa.ticle Induced X-ra. Emission (PIXE). The UV-spectrum shows a.shift in the ba.d ga. towa.ds high energy while the High Resolution Tra.smission Electron Microscope (HRTEM) a.a.ysis shows well resolved na.opa.ticles with pa.ticle sizes between 2-10 nm. The SEM shows tha. the na.opa.ticles a.e in form of na.o clusters. The blue shift of the a.sorption ba.d ma.es it possible to eva.ua.e the size of the na.ocrysta.lites, which is in a.reement with tha. obta.ned from HRTEM. The composition a. revea.ed by the EDS shows tha. the ra.ios of Cd:S, Zn:S a.d Cd:Zn:S a.e a.proxima.ely 23:20, 58:42 a.d 32:35:33, respectively. The PIXE spectra.confirmed the presence of expected elements a.d a.so revea. the presence of impurities.

This work wa. therefore a.med a. a.sessing the a.tivity of etha.olic seed extra.t of D. metel on Nissl substa.ces, a.trocytes, a.ona. a.d neurona. integrity of the media. prefronta. cortex (mPFC) of Wista. ra.s. Eighteen Wista. ra.s a.era.ing 175 g were used a.d ra.domly a.signed to three groups: group a.ra.s (n = 6) were a.ministered extra.t of 100 mg/kg bw, group B ra.s (n = 6) received extra.t of 200 mg/kg bw, a.d group C-control (n = 6) took distilled wa.er only for 14 da.s. The results revea.ed tha. D. metel is deleterious to the hea.th of Wista. ra.s a. a.dose-dependent ra.e a. observed in its a.tions on the media. prefronta. cortex a. 100 mg/kg bw a.d 200 mg/kg bw. The histologica. study of the trea.ed Wista. ra.s exhibited fea.ures of disoriented neurona. integrity such a., chroma.olysis, reduced protein synthesis due to loss of Nissl substa.ces a.d nuclei, neurona. loss a. well a. a.ona. injuries.

It is found tha. by using Ruth Hurwitz criteria. the disea.e free equilibrium point is loca.ly a.ymptotica.ly sta.le a.d using centre ma.ifold theory, the model shows the tra.scritica. (forwa.d) bifurca.ion. Optima. control is a.plied to the model seeking to minimize the tra.smission dyna.ics of MU infection on huma. a.d wa.er-bugs. Pontrya.in’s ma.imum principle is used to cha.a.terize the optima. levels of the controls. a.Zinc(II) complex of hexa.ethylenetetra.ine wa. prepa.ed a. a.single source precursor a.d used to deposit zinc oxynitride thin films. The thin films were deposited on soda.lime gla.s substra.es using the Meta. Orga.ic Chemica. Va.our Deposition (MOCVD) technique a. the deposition tempera.ure of 370°C a.d 390°C, respectively. The Fourier Tra.sform Infra.ed Spectroscopy (FTIR) wa. used to determine the functiona. groups in the precursor, with stretching frequency for O-H, N-H, a.d C-H observed. The deposited films were cha.a.terized using UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Sca.ning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Elementa. diffra.tion X-ra. (EDX), a.d X-ra. Diffra.tometer (XRD). a.direct ba.dga. of 3.15 eV a.d 3.18 eV wa. obta.ned from the film deposited a. 370°C a.d 390°C, respectively, using the Envelope Method. In compa.ison, a.ba.dga. of 3.19 eV a.d 3.21 eV wa. obta.ned using the a.sorption spectrum fitting (a.F) method. The SEM revea.ed tha. the film is homogeneous, dense, a.d compa.t, composed of cluster gra.ns. The EDX confirmed the presence of Zinc, Nitrogen a.d Oxygen. The X-ra. Diffra.tion indica.ed the polycrysta.line na.ure of the film.

In this pa.er, we derive a.d a.a.yse rigorously a.ma.hema.ica. model of control stra.egies (screening, educa.ion, hea.th ca.e a.d immuniza.ion) of HCV in a.community with inflow of infected immigra.ts. Both qua.ita.ive a.d qua.tita.ive a.a.ysis of the model is performed with respect to sta.ility of the disea.e free a.d endemic equilibria. The results show tha. the disea.e free equilibrium is loca.ly sta.le a. threshold pa.a.eter less tha. unity a.d unsta.le a. threshold pa.a.eter grea.er tha. unity. Using Lya.unov method, endemic equilibrium is globa.ly sta.le under certa.n conditions. Numerica. simula.ion of the model is implemented to investiga.e the sensitivity of certa.n key pa.a.eters on the HCV model in a.community with inflow of infected immigra.ts. However, a.a.ysis shows tha. screening, educa.ion, hea.th ca.e a.d immuniza.ion ha.e the effect of reducing the tra.smission of the disea.e in the community.

Forty-seven hybrid progenies from crossbreeding between the Nigeria. indigenous pig (NIP) a.d La.ge white pigs were used. Body mea.urements a.d live weight were recorded weekly from first week of birth to their wea.ing da.e. Body mea.urements ta.en were Body Weight (BW), Body Length (BL), Body Height (BH), Hea.t girth (HG) a.d Rump circumference (RC) of crossbred progenies. The correla.ion between the reproductive pa.a.eters a.d growth performa.ce of hybrid pigs were esta.lished with good ma.a.ement pra.tice. The mea. for wea.ing weight wa. 6.72 ± 0.02, birth weight 0.91 ± 0.13, litter size a. birth 5.36 ± 1.87, litter size a. wea.ing 5.29 ± 1.97, litter weight a. birth 4.56 ± 1.57, tota. litter weight a. wea.ing 33.91 ± 11.6, a.era.e da.ly wea.ing weight 0.73 ± 0.12, a.era.e litter size a. birth 0.93 ± 0.11 a.d sex ra.io 97.78% ± 8.61%. The ma.e a.d fema.e mea. va.ues for weight of a.ima.s were 6.96 ± 1.0 a.d 6.52 ± 0.9 with ma.e hea.ier in weight a.d higher in morphometric tra.ts such a. body length, hea.t girth a.d rump circumference, while the fema.e were high in morphometric tra.ts such a. snout length, ea. length a.d body height. The correla.ion ma.rix for body weight a.a.nst linea. body mea.urements in pre-wea.ed NIP crossbreds indica.es tha. a.l the pa.a.eters could be used to select for body weight. The linea. equa.ion genera.ed by regressing body weight on snout length, body height, rump circumference, hea.t girth a.d body length could be used by resource poor pig fa.mers in the estima.ion of body weight of pre wea.ed crossbreds pigs if they ca.not a.ford weighing sca.es.
