bacillus anthracis is the causative agent of anthrax, a bacterial infection with a high mortality rate [1-3]. Although anthrax infection can be cutaneous, gastrointestinal or pulmonary, the pulmonary form is the most deadly [2,3]. Thus, the release of bacillus anthracis spores that can be inhaled represents a potent bioterrorism threat;the capacity of b. anthracis spores to act as a bioterrorism weapon was demonstrated in 2001, with the intentional infection of 22 persons in the U.S.A. [2,4]. Until recently, the available vaccines were developed to confer protection against cutaneous infection;despite this, these vaccines demonstrated experimental efficacy against pulmonary infection in multiple animal models [1,2]. Nevertheless, there are many limitations for these vaccines to be considered successful and effective vaccine, including the intensity of the required vaccination schedule, the administration route and the presence of local adverse effects experienced after vaccination [1,3,5,6]. To develop more efficient vaccines against pulmonary anthrax, intranasal formulations with adjuvant have been studied. These formulations have advantages because they are easy to administer and because they are expected to induce both systemic and respiratory tract mucosal immune responses. Therefore, the main goal of this review is to compare the different experimental adjuvants used with anthrax antigens and the different approaches regarding the vaccination schedule and consecutive boosters.

Functional MRI was used to map the brains of subjects on-line during the process of media training for the acquisition and improvement of self-regulation mechanisms. The temporal and spatial dynamics of the new neural network formation were studied in real and simulated (false) biofeedback game, and their qualitative characteristics were discussed. It has been shown that immersion into a virtual competitive game, controlled by physiological responses, causes a wide involvement of the cortices, characterized by a high volume of activation in the mid-temporal, occipital and frontal areas, the cuneus and the precuneus. In both forms of media training, high values of activation volume were identified in the cerebellar structures.

Plants, as sessile organisms, need to sense and adapt to heterogeneous environments and have developed sophisticated responses by changing their cellular physiology, gene regulation, and genome stability. Recent work dem- onstrated heritable stress effects on the control of genome stability in plants--a phenomenon that was suggested to be of epigenetic nature. Here, we show that temperature and UV-b stress cause immediate and heritable changes in the epi- genetic control of a silent reporter gene in Arabidopsis. This stress-mediated release of gene silencing correlated with pronounced alterations in histone occupancy and in histone H3 acetylation but did not involve adjustments in DNA meth- ylation. We observed transmission of stress effects on reporter gene silencing to non-stressed progeny, but this effect was restricted to areas consisting of a small number of cells and limited to a few non-stressed progeny generations. Further- more, stress-induced release of gene silencing was antagonized and reset during seed aging. The transient nature of this phenomenon highlights the ability of plants to restrict stress-induced relaxation of epigenetic control mechanisms, which likely contributes to safeguarding genome integrity.

Recently gold nanoparticles(GNPs)have been actively studied as photot hermal converters,drug carriers,and imaging agents in a wide range of applications in cancer diagnosis and ther *** prolonged peroral administration of GNPs in a range of sizes was performed to investigate the morphological changes and their reversibility in the internal organs of laboratory *** this study,GNP's with average diameters of 2 nm,15 nm and 50nm were administered during 30 days,and the reversibility of morphological changes was investigated 14 days after *** the prolonged administration of GNPs,the severity of morphological changes in the liver,kidney,spleen and lymph nodes depended on the nanoparticle ***,50 nm nano-particles caused the most pronounced dystrophic and necrobiotic effects,whereas the smallest 2 nm nanoparticles caused proliferative *** importantly,the development of patho-logical processes was reversible,as evidenced by the gradual restoration of the organ structure at 14 days after the end of GNPs administration.

Variability of the bioluminescence characteristics of the black Sea ctenophores-aliens in connection with different conditions of nutrition

Many ecological-physiological characteristics of ctenophores-aliensMnemiopsis leidyi A. Agassiz, 1865 and beroe ovata Mayer, 1912 are studied quite well because they play a very important ecological role in the black Sea ecosystem. However, bioluminescence, one of the most important elements of the ctenophores ecology and its connection with feeding regime were not studied sufficiently. Experiments have shown that characteristics of the ctenophores bioluminescence differed considerably in dependence of food supplies. Thus, amplitude and light-emitting energy of the fed ctenophores b. ovata are maximal, 3 times more than analogical indices of the just-caught individuals and 4 times more than ones of starving individuals. More prolonged flash signal (to 3.5 s), which exceeds light-emitting duration of the starving individuals twice, can be registered from the fed ctenophores. Investigation of the M. leidyi bioluminescence has shown that amplitude and light-emitting energy of the just-caught ctenophores were two times more than those of the starving individuals. At the same time, light-emitting amplitude of the fed individuals is 6.5 times and light-emitting energy is 3 - 4 times higher than that of the just-caught ctenophores. The light-emitting duration of the starving and justcaught organisms is practically the same. The most prolonged signal is registered from the fed ctenophores—up to 2.8 s. The data obtained testify that characteristics of the ctenophores bioluminescence can be conditioned not only by nutritional value but by the composition of the food as well.

In 2010,the world’s tiger(Panthera tigris)range countries agreed to the goal of doubling tiger numbers over 12 years,but whether such an increase is biologically feasible has not been ***-term monitoring of tigers in Sikhote-Alin biosphere Zapovednik(SAbZ),Russia provided an opportunity to determine growth rates of a recovering population.A 41-year growth phase was followed by a rapid decline in tiger *** growth rates during the growth phase averaged 4.6%,beginning near 10%in the earliest years but quickly dropping below 5%.Sex ratio(females per male)mirrored growth rates,declining as population size *** rapid decline from 2009 to 2012 appeared to be tied to multiple factors,including poaching,severe winters and *** indicators of this population are similar to those of bengal tiger populations,suggesting that growth rates may be *** results suggest that,first,tiger populations likely in general grow slowly:3–5%yearly increases are realistic and larger growth rates are likely only when populations are highly depressed,mortality rates are low and prey populations are high relative to numbers of adult ***,while more research is needed,it should not be assumed that tiger populations with high prey densities will necessarily grow more quickly than populations with low prey ***,while growth is slow,decline can be ***,because declines can happen so quickly,there is a constant need to monitor populations and be ready to respond with appropriate and timely conservation interventions if tiger populations are to remain ***,an average annual growth rate across all tiger populations of 6%,required to reach the Global Tiger Initiative’s goal of doubling tiger numbers in 12 years,is a noble but unlikely scenario.

based on the photographic and CCD observations of the relative motion of the A and b components of the binary system ADS 9346 obtained with the 26-inch refractor of Pulkovo Observatory during 1979–2019,we discover an invisible companion associated with star *** of the ephemerides with the positional and spectroscopic observations allowed us to calculate the preliminary orbit of the photocenter(P=15 yr).The minimal mass of the companion is approximately 0.13 *** existence of the invisible low-mass companion is implied by the IR-excess based on IRAS *** confirm this,additional observations of the radial velocity near the periastron need to be carried out.

The effect of an erbium-doped fiber amplifier （EDFA） placed inside the fiber ring of a cavity ring down （CRD） configuration is studied. The limitations and advantages of this configuration are discussed, and the study of the ring-down time as a function of the current applied and gain to the EDFA is also presented. In this case, the power fluctuations in the output signal are strongly dependent on the cavity ring-down time with the EDFA gain.
