The standard diagno.tic.mo.alities fo. Pro.tate c.nc.r (Pc. inc.ude serum Pro.tate-Spec.fic.Antigen (PSA) assay, Digital Rec.al Examinatio. (DRE), and histo.o.ic.l examinatio. o. pro.tate bio.sy. They are limited by lo. predic.ive po.ential and inability to.predic. whic. patients are at risk o. develo.ing metastatic.disease. The aim o. this study is to.investigate the exo. 4 o. the KLK2 gene o. subjec.s fo. c.anges in its nuc.eo.ide sequenc.s (SNPs) and determine the c.0}relatio. o. these c.anges with serum PSA in an igbo.po.ulatio. o. Nigeria. o.e hundred male subjec.s aged 40 years and abo.e, who.gave their c.0}sent, were used fo. the study. Their PSA determinatio.s were do.e using ELiSA tec.nique while genetic.studies were c.rried o.t using real-time Pc.. tPSA, fPSA, and % fPSA o. the subjec.s ranged between 0.8% - 18.30%, 0.10% - 1.60% and 0.0% - 0.7% respec.ively. o. the 100 subjec.s, 28 subjec.s had tPSA levels abo.e 4.0 ng/ml with a mean o. 7.10 (±3.30) ng/ml. Tho.e with tPSA less than 4 ng/ml had a mean o. 1.87 (±0.85) ng/m. 15 subjec.s sho.ed SNPs with a mean tPSA o. 6.87 (±4.82) ng/ml while the remaining 85 subjec.s witho.t SNPs had a mean o. 1.86 (±0.80) ng/ml. Results fro. direc. DNA sequenc.ng sho.ed 11 SNPs. Ten subjec.s are c.rated in SNP database while o.e is unc.rated. The c.i-square test sho.ed signific.nt asso.iatio. (p = 0.00) between tPSA levels and SNPs mutatio. (X2 = 17.35, p = 0.00). A Kruskal-Wallis test demo.strated that the po.itio.al arrangement o. the SNP mutatio.s had no.effec. o. PSA-to.al o. free-values (H (10) = 10.92, p = 0.28;H (10) = 10.07, p = 0.38 respec.ively). o.g>Bac.gro.ndo.g>: Cervical ripening is prerequisite of successful induction of labor. Vaginal misoprostol and Foley’s catheter placement have been widely used for this purpose but the data are not always sufficient. We attempted to determine which (misoprostol versus Foley’s catheter) is more effective/safer in Nigerian setting. Methods: A randomized controlled trial was performed at Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, Nigeria, involving 135 term pregnant women requiring cervical ripening and labor induction. Participants were randomly allocated to misoprostol versus catheter group. The following were recorded/measured/analyzed: Bishop’s score, age, parity, body mass index, gestational age, labor duration, indication, oxytocin use, mode of delivery, and Apgar score. Chi square test and t test were used where appropriate. Results: At 24 hours, all of misoprostol group were either in labor, had ripe cervix, or had delivered, whereas 35.4% of catheter group had still unripe cervix (i>xi>2 = 29.856, i>Pi> = 0.0001).
