When data privacy is imposed as a necessity,Federated learning(FL)emerges as a relevant artificial intelligence field for developing machine learning(ML)models in a distributed and decentralized *** allows ML models to be trained on local devices without any need for centralized data transfer,thereby reducing both the exposure of sensitive data and the possibility of data interception by malicious third *** paradigm has gained momentum in the last few years,spurred by the plethora of real-world applications that have leveraged its ability to improve the efficiency of distributed learning and to accommodate numerous participants with their data *** virtue of FL,models can be learned from all such distributed data sources while preserving data *** aim of this paper is to provide a practical tutorial on FL,including a short methodology and a systematic analysis of existing software ***,our tutorial provides exemplary cases of study from three complementary perspectives:i)Foundations of FL,describing the main components of FL,from key elements to FL categories;ii)Implementation guidelines and exemplary cases of study,by systematically examining the functionalities provided by existing software frameworks for FL deployment,devising a methodology to design a FL scenario,and providing exemplary cases of study with source code for different ML approaches;and iii)Trends,shortly reviewing a non-exhaustive list of research directions that are under active investigation in the current FL *** ultimate purpose of this work is to establish itself as a referential work for researchers,developers,and data scientists willing to explore the capabilities of FL in practical applications.

Obesity has a complex multifactorial etiology and is characterized by excessive accumulation of adipose *** adipose tissue has deleterious effects on health because it secretes large amounts of inflammatory *** calorie restriction associated with strength training may be useful in managing chronic systemic *** study aimed to evaluate the acute effect of a single strength-training session on plasma adipokine levels in sedentary,overweight,and obese young *** study included twelve men(Age:[34.95±9.77]years;Height:[174.16±3.66]centimeter[cm];Weight:[97.83±12.87]kilogram(kg);body mass index[BMI]:[32.30±4.51]kg/m2),who performed a single strength training *** strength training protocol consisted of 4 sets of 12 repetitions in the following six exercises,45°leg press,bench press,leg extension,machine row,leg curl,and shoulder *** samples were collected before,immediately after,and 1-h subsequent after strength *** plasma levels of resistin and leptin were measured.A significant decrease in resistin levels were found 1 h after the strength training session if compared to levels before the training session(pre-[before][2390±1199]picograms per milliliter[pg/mL]vs post-1 h[1-h subsequent][1523±798],6 pg/mL,p=0.0028).The plasma leptin levels did not differ at any time *** conclusion,a very well controlled single session of strength training significantly decreased the plasma levels of resistin without altering the concentration of leptin in overweight and obese *** effect,at least in part,supports the benefits of exercise by reducing the low grade inflammation and insulin resistance in obesity.

Modulating the growth of cysteine-capped cadmium sulfide quantum dots with enzymatically produced hydrogen peroxide

Cysteine （CSH） readily stabilizes cadmium sulfide quantum dots （CdS QDs） that grow in aqueous buffered solutions. The oxidation of CSH by hydrogen peroxide （H202） at room temperature yields cystine （CSSC）, which is less efficient in stabilizing CdS QDs compared to CSH. Herein, we demonstrate that such oxidation causes a decrease in the formation rate of CSH-capped CdS QDs from Cd^2＋ and S^2- ions. For the first time, we combined the oxidation of CSH with the glucose oxidase （GOx）-assisted biocatalytic oxidation of D-glucose, which leads to a buildup of H2O2 in the reaction mixture. The enzymatically modulated in situ growth of CdS QDs was monitored using two techniques： fluorescence spectroscopy and photoelectrochemical （PEC） analysis. This system enables quantification of GOx and glucose in human serum.

Disordered multicomponent systems attract great interest due to their engineering design flexibility and subsequent rich space of ***,detailed characterization of the structure and atomic correlations remains challenging and hinders full navigation of these complex spaces.A lattice cluster expansion is one tool to obtain configurational and energetic *** in theory a cluster expansion can be applied to any system of any dimensionality,the method has primarily been used in binary systems or ternary *** we apply cluster expansions in high-component ionic systems,setting up the largest cluster expansion ever attempted to our *** doing so,we address and discuss challenges specific to high-component ionic systems,namely charge state assignments,structural relaxations,and rank-deficient *** introduce practical procedures to make the fitting and analysis of complex systems tractable,providing guidance for future computational studies of disordered ionic systems.

The management of water consumption in healthcare centres can have positive impacts on both the environmental performance and profitability of health *** tools assist in the decision-making process of managing the operation and maintenance of healthcare *** research aimed to integrate the empirical knowledge of experts in Healthcare Engineering and the historical data from 66 healthcare centres in a Fuzzy Cognitive *** outputs of the predictive model included water consumption,water cost,and CO_(2) emissions in healthcare facilities,along with eleven variables to discover the causes and consequences of water consumption in healthcare centres.A healthcare centre with about 12350 users,located in a city that experiences an average of 1100 heating degree days,whose facilities be moderately energy-efficient contributing over 50%with renewable energies is expected to consume 8.4 dam^(3) of water with 32.1 k€of cost,and contribute realising 30.8 ton CO_(2)eq *** use of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps for prediction can provide a high level of effectiveness in identifying the factors that contribute to water consumption and in designing key performance indicators to manage the environmental performance of healthcare *** tool is extremely effective in enhancing the performance of the management division of health systems.

Preparation and Microstructural Characterization of Activated Carbon-Metal Oxide Hybrid Catalysts:New Insights into Reaction Paths

In catalysis processes, activated carbon （AC） and metal oxides （MOs） are widely used either as catalysts or as catalyst supports because of their unique properties. A combination of AC and MO nanoparticles in a single hybrid material usually entails both chemical and microstructural changes, which may largely influence the potential catalytic suitability and performance of the resulting product. Here, the prepa- ration of a wide series of AC-MO hybrid catalysts is studied. Three series of such catalysts are prepared by support first of MO （Al2O3, Fe2O3, SnO2, TiO2, WO3, and ZnO） precursors on a granular AC by wet impregnation and oven-drying at 120 ℃, and by subsequent heat treatment at 200 or 850℃ in inert atmosphere. Both the chemical composition and microstructure are mainly investigated by powder X-ray diffraction. Yield and ash content are often strongly dependent on the MO precursor and heat treatment temperature, in particular for the Sn catalysts. With the temperature rise, trends are towards the transformation of metal hydroxides into metal oxides, crystallinity improvement, and occurrence of drastic composition changes, ultimately leading to the formation of metals in elemental state and even metal carbides. Reaction paths during the preparation are explored for various hybrid catalysts and new insights into them are provided.

Hormone abuse in sports： the antidoping perspective

Since ancient times, unethical athletes have attempted to gain an unfair competitive advantage through the use of doping substances. A list of doping substances and methods banned in sports is published yearly by the World AntiDoping Agency （WADA）. A substance or method might be included in the List if it fulfills at least two of the following criteria： enhances sports performance; represents a risk to the athlete＇s health; or violates the spirit of sports. This list, constantly updated to reflect new developments in the pharmaceutical industry as well as doping trends, enumerates the drug types and methods prohibited in and out of competition. Among the substances included are steroidal and peptide hormones and their modulators, stimulants, glucocorticosteroids, β2-agonists, diuretics and masking agents, narcotics, and cannabinoids. Blood doping, tampering, infusions, and gene doping are examples of prohibited methods indicated on the List. From all these, hormones constitute by far the highest number of adverse analytical findings reported by antidoping laboratories. Although to date most are due to anabolic steroids, the advent of molecular biology techniques has made recombinant peptide hormones readily available. These substances are gradually changing the landscape of doping trends. Peptide hormones like erythropoietin （EPO）, human growth hormone （hGH）, insulin, and insulin-like growth factor Ⅰ （IGF-Ⅰ） are presumed to be widely abused for performance enhancement. Furthermore, as there is a paucity of techniques suitable for their detection, peptide hormones are all the more attractive to dishonest athletes. This article will overview the use of hormones as doping substances in sports, focusing mainly on peptide hormones as they represent a pressing challenge to the current fight against doping. Hormones and hormones modulators being developed by the pharmaceutical industry, which could emerge as new doping substances, are also discussed.

A regionalized IO-model to value seasonal recreational ecosystem services in a mountain National Park in Spain

Recreational Ecosystem Services(RES)are among the most frequently evaluated ecosystem *** are seen as a major opportunity for sustainable development in areas of high ecological value resulting from the presence of emblematic species,habitats or scenery,often integrated in conservation areas,in particular in mountain areas affected by depopulation,rising environmental risks and ***,the assessment of RES has been based on Contingent Valuation and Choice Experiments,methods with limitations related to their ***,Input-Output(IO)models provide a very accurate and effective way of valuation of RES with regional information regarding interindustry *** data on nature tourist expenditure may be only available annually,tourism inflows have a strong seasonal behavior,which impacts the profitability of several local economic *** this paper,we firstly constructed a novel regionalized IO-model based on Cross-Industry Location Quotients using employment data and,secondly,based on Monte Carlo simulation,we estimated nature tourist expenditure monthly using data on nature tourism *** method allowed for a more precise RES evaluation,estimating direct,indirect and induced monthly economic impacts of nature-based *** method was applied to the Ordesa and Monte Perdido(OMP)National Park in the Spanish *** estimate the average tourist expenditure,we collected and analyzed spending on commerce,hospitality and restaurants,leisure,and transport of 385 *** suggest that using a regionalized IO model leads to a considerable reduction of over-estimation of the economic impact of tourist expenditure estimated by conventional *** into consideration the direct,indirect and induced effects of tourist expenditure in 2016-2018,the total annual output effect in the OMP National Park amounted to€208.8 million,while the total income effect amounted to€86.29 ***,a total of
