Breast cancer is the predominant form of carcinoma among.women worldwide,with 70%of advanced patients developing.bone metastases,with a hig. mortality *** this sense,the bone marrow(BM)mesenchymal stem/stromal cells(MSCs)are critical for BM/bone homeostasis,and failures in their functionality,transform the BM into a premetastatic niche(PMN).We previously found that BM-MSCs from advanced breast cancer patients(BCPs,infiltrative ductal carcinoma,stag. BACKg.OUND Melatonin(MLT)is a potent antioxidant molecule that is shown to have a beneficial effect in various patholog.cal situations,due to its action ag.inst free *** To evaluate the effect of MLT on carbon tetrachloride(CCl_(4))induced liver injury in rats in terms of oxidative stress,reticular stress,and cell *** Twenty male Wistar rats(230-250 g.were divided into four g.oups:Control rats,rats treated with MLT alone,rats treated with CCl_(4)alone,and rats treated with CCl_(4)plus ***_(4)was administered as follows:Ten doses every 5 d,ten every 4 d,and seven every 3 *** was administered intraperitoneally at a dose of 20 mg.kg.from the 10th wk to the end of the experiment(16th wk).RESULTS MLT was able to reduce the release of liver enzymes in the bloodstream and to decrease oxidative stress in CCl_(4)treated rats by decreasing.the level of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and increasing.superoxide dismutase activity,with a lower reduction in serum zinc levels,g.aranteeing.a reduction in liver damag.;additionally,it increased the expression of nuclear factor(erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 and decreased the expression of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein *** also decreased the expression of the proteins associated with endoplasmic reticulum stress,i.e.,g.ucose-reg.lated protein 78 and activating.transcription factor 6,as well as of heat shock factor 1 and heat shock protein *** MLT has a hepatoprotective effect in an experimental model of CCl_(4)-induced liver injury,since it reduces oxidative stress,restores zinc levels,and modulates endoplasmic reticulum stress.

In recent years,there has been a g.owing.interest in exploring.alternative treatments for bone *** tissue eng.neering.has turned its attention to plant extracts containing.osteog.nic flavonoids as potential promoters of bone *** our study,we specifically investig.ted the extract of Petroselinum crispum,a plant known for its abundance of osteog.nic flavonoids such as apig.nin,quercetin,and *** objective was to compare the total flavonoid content(TFC)and their accumulation in different *** obtained hydrolyzed aqueous extracts from the leaves of parsley plants(g.own for 12 weeks in the field),weekly embryog.nic cultures,and suspension cell *** TFC,measured in mg.quercetin equivalent per g.am of dry weig.t(QE mg.g.dw),was found to be 53.81±0.97 for 52 g.dw of leaves(1 kg.plant fw),31.10±1.52 for 420 g.dw of embryog.nic cultures,and 11.80±0.76 for 210 g.dw of cell ***,only the leaves and embryog.nic cultures showed sig.ificant accumulation of osteog.nic flavonoids,with apig.nin levels of 1.8±0.3 and 0.32±0.02 mg.g.dw,and kaempferol levels of 1.0±0.18 and 0.2±0.01 mg.g.dw,*** finding. indicate that embryog.nic cultures have the potential to produce up to 40%more apig.nin in 12 weeks compared to 1 kg.of parsley plant,thanks to their superior biomass reproductive *** results present a promising.biotechnolog.cal approach for g.nerating.extracts enriched with bioactive compounds,which can be further utilized in in vitro osteog.nic testing.

BACKg.OUND Severe acute liver failure(SALF) is a rare, but hig.-mortality, rapidly evolving.syndrome that leads to hepatocyte deg.neration with impaired liver ***(TAA) is a known xenobiotic, which promotes the increase of the formation of reactive oxyg.n species. Studies have evidenced the involvement of inflammatory mediators in conditions of oxidative *** To evaluate the antioxidant effects of g.utamine on Nrf2 activation and NFκBmediated inflammation in rats with TAA-induced *** Male Wistar rats(n = 28) were divided into four g.oups: control,control+g.utamine, TAA, and TAA + g.utamine. Two TAA doses(400 mg.kg.were administered intraperitoneally, 8 h apart. g.utamine(25 mg.kg. was administered at 30 min, 24 h, and 36 h. At 48 h, blood was collected for liver integ.ity analysis [aspartate aminotransferase(AST), alanine aminotransferase(ALT), and alkaline phosphatase(ALP)]. Food packag.ng.materials compounded with antimicrobial additives can substantially diminish the incidence of foodborne ***,poly(L-lactic acid)(PLA)films containing.sodium metabisulfite(NaM)were produced by melt extrusion as an attempt to develop a new biodeg.adable material with antimicrobial properties for *** cycle assessment(LCA)simulations revealed that the environmental footprints of the PLA film did not chang. upon NaM addition,and that NaM is more eco-friendly than silver *** PLA/NaM films with NaM content varying.from 0.5 to 5.0 wt.%were characterized by differential scanning.calorimetry(DSC),thermog.avimetric analysis(Tg.),and optical and mechanical properties *** optical properties were sustained after the addition of NaM,but hig. BACKg.OUND The hig. prevalence and persistence of Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) infection, as well as the diversity of patholog.es related to it, sug.est that the virulence factors used by this microorg.nism are varied. Moreover, as its proteome contains 340hypothetical proteins, it is important to investig.te them to completely understand the mechanisms of its virulence and survival. We have previously reported that the hypothetical protein HP0953 is overexpressed during.the first hours of adhesion to inert surfaces, under stress conditions, sug.esting.its role in the environmental survival of this bacterium and perhaps as a virulence *** To investig.te the expression and localization of HP0953 during.adhesion to an inert surface and ag.inst g.stric(Ag.) *** Expression analysis was performed for HP0953 during.H. pylori adhesion. HP0953 expression at 0,3, 12, 24, and 48 h was evaluated and compared using.the Kruskal-Wallis equality-of-populations rank test. Recombinant protein was produced and used to obtain polyclonal antibodies for immunolocalization. Immunog.ld technique was performed on bacterial sections during.adherence to inert surfaces and Ag. cells, which was analyzed by transmission electron microscopy. HP0953 protein sequence was analyzed to predict the presence of a sig.al peptide and transmembrane helices, both provided by the ExPASy platform, and using.the g.YCOPP platform for g.ycosylation sites. The N400 and LPC Effects Reflecting.Controlled but Not Automatic Mechanisms of Sentence Processing

This study focused on the automatic versus controlled nature of the underlying.cog.itive processes of ERPs (Event-Related Potentials) effects during.speech perception. ERPs to the final word of sentences (half being.semantically incong.uent with the sentence and half cong.uent) were presented to French natives under 4 levels of deg.adation: no deg.adation, mild deg.adation (2 levels), and strong.deg.adation. Under mild deg.adation allowing.controlled sentence-level processing.according.to behavioral data, the N400 effect (i. e., the N400 to incong.uent words minus the N400 to cong.uent words) and a late positive complex were delayed and the latter effect was reduced. Under strong.deg.adation allowing.only automatic sentence processing.according.to behavioral data, no ERP effects remained. These results sug.est that, unlike contextual effect found with sing.e words (e. g., using.word-pair or word-list paradig.s), ERP effects elicited by more complex contexts such as full sentences are g.nerated by controlled but not by automatic mechanisms of speech processing.

AIM To evaluate the protective effects of g.utamine in a model of portal hypertension(PH) induced by partial portal vein lig.tion(PPVL).METHODS Male Wistar rats were housed in a controlled environment and were allowed access to food and water ad libitum. Twenty-four male Wistar rats were divided into four experimental g.oups:(1) control g.oup(SO)-rats underwent exploratory laparotomy;(2) control + g.utamine g.oup(SO + g.-rats were subjected to laparotomy and were treated intraperitoneally with g.utamine;(3) portal hypertension g.oup(PPVL)-rats were subjected to PPVL; and(4) PPVL + g.utamine g.oup(PPVL + g.-rats were treated intraperitoneally with g.utamine for seven days. Local injuries were determined by evaluating.intestinal seg.ents for oxidative stress using.lipid peroxidation and the activities of g.utathione peroxidase(g.x), endothelial nitric oxide synthase(e NOS) and inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS) after *** Lipid peroxidation of the membrane was increased in the animals subjected to PH(P g.oup that received g.utamine for seven days after the PPVL procedure showed levels of lipid peroxidation similar to those of the control g.oups(P > 0.05). The activity of the antioxidant enzyme g.x was decreased in the g.t of animals subjected to PH compared with that in the control g.oup of animals not subjected to PH(P g.oup that received g.utamine for seven days after the PPVL showed similar g.x activity to both the control g.oups not subjected to PH(P > 0.05). At least 10 random, non-overlapping.imag.s of each histolog.cal slide with 200 × mag.ification(44 pixel = 1 μm) were captured. The sum means of all áreas, of each g.oup were calculated. The mean areas of e NOS staining.for both of the control g.oups were similar. The PPVL g.oup showed the larg.st area of staining.for e NOS. The PPVL + g.g.oup had the second hig.est amount of staining. but the mean value was much lower than that of the PPVL g.oup(P < 0.01
