Chitin is the second most abundant polysaccharide,produced mainly as an industrial waste stream during crustacean *** can be derived into chitosan through the deacetylation *** of shrimp waste into chitosan via the deacetylation process could be considered a practical approach for shell waste *** this study,chitosan’s physicochemical characteristics extracted from two types of Pacific white leg shrimp,***’s shell(i.e.,rough and smooth),were compared with commercial *** yield,moisture,ash,solubility,water and fat binding capacity were *** degree of deacetylation(DDA)was calculated using FTIR,and their chemical Structure was confirmed using XRD and *** extracted chitosan showed no significant difference in yield,moisture,ash,solubility and water binding capacity but showed a significant difference with commercial ***,the fat binding capacity of commercial chitosan showed the lowest percentage(408.34±0.83%)as compared to extracted chitosan(smooth shell 549.59±12.48%;rough shell 500.55±12.10%).The DDA indicated that extracted chitosan from the smooth and rough shell was considered good chitosan as compared to commercial chitosan with 84.08±1.27%,80.78±0.79%and 74.99±1.48%,***,the presence of hydroxyl and amino groups from FTIR and a good crystallinity index was recorded using XRD of extracted *** on observed characteristics,shrimp shell waste from *** can achieve chitosan standard quality as a biopolymer and highly potential to be applied in various industrial applications.

Carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC)has emerged in oil and gas industries as a superior substitution to the conventional HPAM and xanthan gum(XG)for high viscosity polymer flooding *** this study,the combined effect of conventional surfactant,sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate(SDBS)and CMC for potential surfactant-polymer(SP)flooding in enhanced oil recovery(EOR)has been ***,SDBS–CMC interaction and the functional groups present in CMC were appropriately *** presence of various C–O bonds signifies the existence of carboxymethyl group which greatly influence the rheological properties of CMC *** behaviour of SDBS–CMC was characterized by their viscosity,shear rate,solubilization,wettability,and surface *** flooding utilizing SDBS-CMC was performed and compared to commercial SDBS-XG SP *** results indicate several SDBS-CMC combinations are favourable for EOR *** viscosity shows direct relationship with CMC ***,at any given SDBS concentrations,significant increment was observed at 0.3 wt%and ***,the trend displayed inconclusive relation to SDBS *** of the SDBS-CMC combinations generate Winsor III emulsions particularly at CMC of 0.2 and 0.3 wt%,while Type II were observed in few *** CMC concentrations increased the contact angle,while gradual reductions were observed with SDBS *** gradual reduction in surface tension was highly influenced by the addition of CMC rather than SDBS.A novel combination of 0.3 wt%SDBS and 0.4 wt%CMC possessed an encouraging criterion in term of viscosity,solubilization,and surface tension reduction for EOR *** experiment from several SDBS-CMC combinations proved to recover additional oil ranging 16.4–20.2%of oil initially in place(OIIP).The trend in incremental oil recovery is similar to that of when utilising SDBS-XG.

Implementation of biofloc technology(BFT)system in aquaculture industry shows high productivity,low feed conversion ratio,and an optimum culture *** study was divided into two *** first phase involved maintaining the water quality using the optimum carbon-to-nitrogen ratio by manipulating pH in culture *** second phase examined the performance of harvesting biofloc(remaining phytoplankton and suspended solids in the system)using chicken eggshell powder(CESP).This study showed that pH 7 to 8 were the best biofloc performance with high removal percentage of ammonia(>99%)with a remaining ammonia concentration of 0.016 mg L^(−1)and 0.018 mg L^(−1),*** second phase of this study was performed to determine the optimal formulation and conditions of using CESP as a bio-flocculant in harvesting excess *** use of eggshell showed a higher harvesting efficiency of more than 80%under the following treatment conditions:0.25 g L^(−1)of eggshell dosage;with rapid and slow mixing rates of 150 and 30 rpm,respectively;30 min of settling time;settling velocity of 0.39 mm s^(−1)and pH of 6 to ***,the results indicated that biofloc would be the best green technology approach for sustainable aquaculture wastewater and the CESP is an organic matrix that environmental-friendly bio-coagulant for biofloc harvesting.

The depletion of log resources encourages research into alternative ways to sustain the wood ***,the 4-year-old Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia(RRIM)clones series,RRIM 2020 and RRIM 2025,were chosen as potential raw materials for particleboard in this *** purpose of this study was to assess the effects of planting density and rubber tree clones on the mechanical and physical properties of single-layer *** planting densities used were low,moderate-low,moderate-high,and high,representing 500,1000,1500,and 2000 trees/ha,*** to manufacturing,the RRIM 2000 series clone trees were harvested,cut,chipped,flaked,and *** mechanical and physical properties were evaluated in accordance with the Japanese Industrial Standard(JIS A 5908-2003).The findings revealed that both planting density and clone had a significant impact on the mechanical and physical properties of particleboard with a thickness of 10 mm and a density of 700 kg/*** 2020 specimens with low planting density had superior modulus of elasticity(MOE),modulus of rupture(MOR),and internal bonding(IB)values of 2415,19,and 1.7 MPa,***,moderate-low planting density demonstrated the lowest thickness swelling(TS)and water absorption(WA)values and was comparable to control particleboard from commercial clone Prang Besar(PB),*** terms of rubber clones,RRIM 2020 particleboard met the minimum requirements of the JIS standard for mechanical properties and outperformed RRIM *** study recommended a low planting density of 500 trees/ha and the RRIM 2020 clone as a suitable raw material for particleboard manufacturing with a ten percent urea formaldehyde resin content.

In recent times,wind energy receives maximum attention and has become a significant green energy source *** wind turbine(WT)entered into several domains such as power electronics that are employed to assist the connection process of a wind energy system and *** turbulent characteristics of wind profile along with uncertainty in the design of WT make it highly challenging for prolific power *** pitch control angle is employed to effectively operate the WT at the above nominal wind ***,the pitch controller needs to be intelligent for the extraction of sustainable secure energy and keep WTs in a safe operating *** achieve this,proportional–integral–derivative(PID)controllers are widely used and the choice of optimal parameters in the PID controllers needs to be properly *** this motivation,this paper designs an oppositional brain storm optimization(OBSO)based fractional order PID(FOPID)design for sustainable and secure energy in WT *** proposed model aims to effectually extract the maximum power point(MPPT)in the low range of weather conditions and save the WT in high wind regions by the use of pitch *** OBSO algorithm is derived from the integration of oppositional based learning(OBL)concept with the traditional BSO algorithm in order to improve the convergence rate,which is then applied to effectively choose the parameters involved in the FOPID *** performance of the presented model is validated on the pitch control of a 5 MW WT and the results are examined under different *** simulation outcomes ensured the promising characteristics of the proposed model over the other methods.

An efficient and low noise short wavelength band erbium-doped fibre amplifier （S-band EDFA） is proposed and demonstrated using double-pass configuration. This amplifier provides a gain of 1500 nm signal as high as 26.9 dB, which is 9.6 dB higher than the two-stage single-pass amplifier. The corresponding noise figure obtained is 7.5 dB, which is of the same level as in the single-pass amplifier and more than 2 dB lower than the previously reported double-pass amplifier [IEIOE Electron. Express 2 （2005） 182]. The gain enhancement is due to the double pass-propagation of the test signal in the second stage, which increases the effective erbium-doped fibre （EDF） length. The low noise is attributed to the optical circulator between EDFs, which prevents the backward amplified spontaneous emission from propagating into the input part of the amplifier. The proposed amplifier is expected to play an important role in the development of a practical S-band EDFA.

A new and easy-to-fabricate strain sensor has been developed,based on fiber Bragg grating(FBG)technology embedded into a thermoplastic polyurethane filament using a 3-dimensional(3D)*** advantage of the flexibility and elastic properties of the thermoplastic polyurethane material,the embedding of the FBG provides durable protection with enhanced flexibility and sensitivity,as compared to the use of a bare *** of an evaluation of its performance have shown that the FBG sensors embedded in this way can be applied effectively in the measurement of strain,with an average wavelength responsivity of 0.0135 nm/cm of displacement for tensile strain and -0.0142 nm/cm for compressive strain,both showing a linearity value of up to 99%.Furthermore,such an embedded FBG-based strain sensor has a sensitivity of~1.74 times greater than that of a bare FBG used for strain measurement and is well protected and suitable for in-the-field *** is also observed that the thermoplastic polyurethane based(TPU-based)FBG strain sensor carries a sensitivity value of~2.05 times higher than that of the polylactic acid based(PLA-based)FBG strain sensor proving that TPU material can be made as the material of choice as a“sensing”pad for the FBG.

BACKGROUND The study sought to understand the self-management strategies used by patients during the postponement of their total knee arthroplasty(TKA)procedure,as well as the associations between the length of waiting time,pain,and physical frailty and *** study focused on individuals aged 50 years and above,as they are known to be more vulnerable to the negative impacts of delayed elective surgery and *** study hypothesizes that delayed TKR due to coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)will bear negative effect in self-management,pain,and physical frailty and function in older *** To investigate the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on self-management,pain,and physical function in older adults awaiting TKA in *** This cross-sectional study has the data of participants,who matched the criteria and scheduled for TKA for the first time,extracted from the TKA registry in the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology,Hospital Canselor Tuanku *** on pain status,and self-management,physical frailty,and instrumental activities daily living were also *** linear regression analysis with a significant level of 0.05 was used to identify the association between waiting time and pain on physical frailty and functional *** Out of 180 had deferred TKA,50%of them aged 50 years old and above,80%were women with ethnic distribution Malay(66%),Chinese(22%),Indian(10%),and others(2%)***-two percent of the participants took medication to manage their pain during the waiting time,while 10%used herbs and traditional supplements,and 68%did exercises as part of their osteoarthritis(OA)***-six participants were found to have physical frailty(strength,assistance with walking,rising from a chair,climbing stairs,and falls questionnaire score>4)which accounted for 72%.Increased pain was associated with physical frailty with odds ratio,odds ratio(95%confidence interval):1.46(1.04-2.05).
