Microstructures and micromechanical behaviors of high -entropy alloys investigated by synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction techniques: A review

High-entropy alloys(HEAs)possess outstanding features such as corrosion resistance,irradiation resistance,and good mechan-ical properties.A few HEAs have found applications in the fields of aerospace and defense.Extensive studies on the deformation mech-anisms of HEAs can guide microstructure control and toughness design,which is vital for understanding and studying state-of-the-art structural materials.Synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction are necessary techniques for materials science research,especially for in situ coupling of physical/chemical fields and for resolving macro/microcrystallographic information on materials.Recently,several re-searchers have applied synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction methods to study the deformation mechanisms,phase transformations,stress behaviors,and in situ processes of HEAs,such as variable-temperature,high-pressure,and hydrogenation processes.In this review,the principles and development of synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction are presented,and their applications in the deformation mechanisms of HEAs are discussed.The factors that influence the deformation mechanisms of HEAs are also outlined.This review fo-cuses on the microstructures and micromechanical behaviors during tension/compression or creep/fatigue deformation and the application of synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction methods to the characterization of dislocations,stacking faults,twins,phases,and intergrain/interphase stress changes.Perspectives on future developments of synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction and on research directions on the deformation mechanisms of novel metals are discussed.

A Bus Planning Algorithm for FPC Design in Complex Scenarios

Flexible printed circuit(FPC) design in complex scenarios has a list of pin concentration areas, which lead to extremely congested intersection regions while connecting the pins. Currently, it is challenging to explore the routability and to find topologically non-crossing and routable paths manually for the nets timely. The existing bus planning methods cannot offer optimal solutions concerning the special resource distribution of the FPC design. To investigate an effective way to shorten the routing time of FPC and achieve enhanced performance, a bus planning algorithm is proposed to tackle complex area connection problems. On the basis of the pin location information, the routing space is partitioned and generally represented as an undirected graph, and the topological non-crossing relationship between different regions is obtained using the dynamic pin sequence. Considering the routability and electrical constraints, a heuristic algorithm is proposed to search the optimal location of the crossing point on the region boundary. Experimental results on industrial cases show that the proposed algorithm realize better performance in terms of count and routability in comparison with numerous selected state-of-the-art router and methods.

The remarkable effect of amino hydrogen on membrane permeability and organelle staining of 1,8-naphthalimide dyes

Membrane permeability and intracellular diffusion of fluorescent probes determine staining selectivity of intracellular substructures.However,the relationship between the molecular structure of fluorescent probes and their membrane permeability and intracellular distribution is poorly understood.In this paper,we reported a series of 1,8-naphthalimide dyes and carried out cell imaging experiments,and found that the presence of amino hydrogen in these dyes played a crucial role in their cell membrane permeability and intracellular distribution.The secondary amino group containing compounds 1-4 show excellent membrane permeability and strong fluorescence in living cells.While the tertiary amine containing dyes 5 and 6 can hardly permeate the cell membrane though they show extremely similar structure with compounds 2-4.Compound 1 can selectively image lipid droplets by selecting the wavelength of excitation light.With the specificity for lysosomes,2 and 4 have been used in long-term time-lapses imaging of lysosomal dynamics and tracking the process of lysosome-lysosome interaction,fusion and movement.The effect of hydrogen-containing amino substituent on the cell membrane permeability of fluorescent molecules is promising for the development of better biocompatible probes.

BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is one of the most common types of tumors.The influence of lipid metabolism disruption on the development of HCC has been demonstrated in published studies.AIM To establish an HCC prognostic model for lipid metabolism-related long non-coding RNAs(LMR-lncRNAs)and conduct in-depth research on the specific role of novel LMR-lncRNAs in HCC.METHODS Correlation and differential expression analyses of The Cancer Genome Atlas data were used to identify differentially expressed LMR-lncRNAs.Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis was used to evaluate the expression of LMR-lncRNAs.Nile red staining was employed to observe intracellular lipid levels.The interaction between RP11-817I4.1,miR-3120-3p,and ATP citrate lyase(ACLY)was validated through the performance of dual-luciferase reporter gene and RIP assays.RESULTS Three LMR-lncRNAs(negative regulator of antiviral response,RNA transmembrane and coiled-coil domain family 1 antisense RNA 1,and RP11-817I4.1)were identified as predictive markers for HCC patients and were utilized in the construction of risk models.Additionally,proliferation,migration,and invasion were reduced by RP11-817I4.1 knockdown.An increase in lipid levels in HCC cells was significantly induced by RP11-817I4.1 through the miR-3120-3p/ACLY axis.CONCLUSION LMR-lncRNAs have the capacity to predict the clinical characteristics and prognoses of HCC patients,and the discovery of a novel LMR-lncRNAs,RP11-817I4.1,revealed its role in promoting lipid accumulation,thereby accelerating the onset and progression of HCC.

Understanding gene expression variations between species is pivotal for deciphering the evolutionary diversity in phenotypes. Rhesus macaques(Macaca mulatta, MMU)and crab-eating macaques(M. fascicularis, MFA) serve as crucial nonhuman primate biomedical models with different phenotypes. To date, however, large-scale comparative transcriptome research between these two species has not yet been fully explored. Here, we conducted systematic comparisons utilizing newly sequenced RNA-seq data from84 samples(41 MFA samples and 43 MMU samples)encompassing 14 common tissues. Our findings revealed a small fraction of genes(3.7%) with differential expression between the two species, as well as 36.5% of genes with tissue-specific expression in both macaques. Comparison of gene expression between macaques and humans indicated that 22.6% of orthologous genes displayed differential expression in at least two tissues. Moreover,19.41% of genes that overlapped with macaque-specific structural variants showed differential expression between humans and macaques. Of these, the FAM220A gene exhibited elevated expression in humans compared to macaques due to lineage-specific duplication. In summary,this study presents a large-scale transcriptomic comparison between MMU and MFA and between macaques and humans. The discovery of gene expression variations not only enhances the biomedical utility of macaque models but also contributes to the wider field of primate genomics.

Joint Communication-Caching-Computing Resource Allocation for Bidirectional Data Computation in IRS-Assisted Hybrid UAV-Terrestrial Network

Joint communication-caching-computing resource allocation in wireless inland waterway communications enables resource-constrained unmanned surface vehicles(USVs) to provision computation-intensive and latencysensitive tasks forward beyond fifth-generation(B5G) and sixth-generation(6G) era. The power of such resource allocation cannot be fully studied unless bidirectional data computation is properly managed. A novel intelligent reflecting surface(IRS)-assisted hybrid UAV-terrestrial network architecture is proposed with bidirectional tasks. The sum of uplink and downlink bandwidth minimization problem is formulated by jointly considering link quality, task execution mode selection, UAVs trajectory, and task execution latency constraints. A heuristic algorithm is proposed to solve the formulated challenging problem. We divide the original challenging problem into two subproblems, i.e., the joint optimization problem of USVs offloading decision, caching decision and task execution mode selection, and the joint optimization problem of UAVs trajectory and IRS phase shift-vector design. The Karush–Kuhn–Tucker conditions are utilized to solve the first subproblem and the enhanced differential evolution algorithm is proposed to solve the latter one. The results show that the proposed solution can significantly decrease bandwidth consumption in comparison with the selected advanced algorithms. The results also prove that the sum of bandwidth can be remarkably decreased by implementing a higher number of IRS elements.

Comparison of Microwave Imaging Algorithms for Short-Range Scenarios

Three dimensional(3-D)imaging algorithms with irregular planar multiple-input-multiple-output(MIMO)arrays are discussed and compared with each other.Based on the same MIMO array,a modified back projection algorithm(MBPA)is accordingly proposed and four imaging algorithms are used for comparison,back-projection method(BP),back-projection one in time domain(BP-TD),modified back-projection one and fast Fourier transform(FFT)-based MIMO range migration algorithm(FFT-based MIMO RMA).All of the algorithms have been implemented in practical application scenarios by use of the proposed imaging system.Back to the practical applications,MIMO array-based imaging system with wide-bandwidth properties provides an efficient tool to detect objects hidden behind a wall.An MIMO imaging radar system,composed of a vector network analyzer(VNA),a set of switches,and an array of Vivaldi antennas,have been designed,fabricated,and tested.Then,these algorithms have been applied to measured data collected in different scenarios constituted by five metallic spheres in the absence and in the presence of a wall between the antennas and the targets in simulation and pliers in free space for experimental test.Finally,the focusing properties and time consumption of the above algorithms are compared.

White light generation by regulating hydrogen bond-sensitive ESPT of naphthalimide dyes

White light emitting systems of pure organic materials have attracted extensive research interest due to their better compatibility and functional scalability.The reported organic white light materials are mainly based on the multi-channel emission regulation of the compound itself or the mixing of multicolor luminescence materials,but studies on the dependence between multicolor luminescence and the external environment are lacking,which limits the application of these materials in areas such as identification and sensing.This paper reports that the 4-or 3?hydroxyl-substituted naphthalimides NapH1 and NapH2 form intermolecular hydrogen bonds with adjacent molecules in the environment,and undergo excited-state intermolecular proton transfer under irradiation,resulting in blue-yellow or blue-red dual fluorescence emission,respectively.Since the two compounds have different two-color luminescence channels and the two-color intensity ratio is affected by the environment,and the intermolecular hydrogen bond is determined by the hydrogen bond receptor,polarity,and temperature in the environment,the full spectrum from blue to red light and white light emission can be obtained by adjusting the mixing ratio of the two dyes and the solvent polarity and the ambient temperature.This environmentally sensitive white emission is used to detect the alkalinity of different papers,and the dyed paper can be used as a test strip for acid-base vapor detection.

Emergent Physics on the Route from Crystals to Amorphous Solids

By introducing and graduly increasing the magnitude of disorder into both crystallineparticle packings and crystalline networks,we realize the evolution from crystals to amorphous solids.The evolution of structures and mechanical properties during this process is expected to help,us understand the physical origin of the peculiar properties of amorphous solids,e.gthebosonpeak,so as to buildupthebridgebetween wll-established physics of crystals and that of amorphous solids.To our surprise,this attempt also reveals some extraordinary phenomena,including the hidden order-disorder transition from crystals to disordered crystals and the emergence of mechanical metamaterials with negative Poisson's ratios.
