Glide symmetry protected higher-order topological insulators from semimetals with butterfly-like nodal lines

most topological insulators(TIs)discovered today in spinful systems can be transformed from topological semimetals(TSms)with vanishing bulk gap via introducing the spin-orbit coupling(SOC),which manifests the intrinsic links between the gapped topological insulator phases and the gapless ***,we have discovered a family of TSms in time-reversal invariant spinless systems,which host butterfly-like nodal-lines(NLs)consisting of a pair of identical concentric intersecting coplanar ellipses(CICE).In this Communication,we unveil the intrinsic link between this exotic class of nodal-line semimetals(NLSms)and a Z_(4)=2 topological crystalline insulator(TCI),by including substantial *** demonstrate that in three space groups(i.e.,Pbam(No.55),P4/mbm(No.127),and P4_(2)/mbc(No.135)),the TCI supports a fourfold Dirac fermion on the(001)surface protected by two glide symmetries,which originates from the intertwined drumhead surface states of the CICE *** higher order topology is further demonstrated by the emergence of one-dimensional helical hinge states,indicating the discovery of a higher order topological insulator protected by a glide symmetry.

Synthesis of a highly recoverable 3D mnO2/rGO hybrid aerogel for efficient adsorptive separation of pharmaceutical residue

Water contamination by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,such as acetaminophen,is an emerging ecological *** this study,a newthree-dimensionalmanganese dioxideengrafted reduced graphene oxide(3D mnO_(2)/rGO)hybrid aerogel was developed for acetaminophen *** synthesis involved firstly the self-assembly of GO aerogel,followed by thermal reduction and in-situ mnO_(2) growth by *** aerogel demonstrated interlinked planes with smooth surfaces deposited with mnO_(2) nanospheres and pores of 138.4–235.3μm *** influences of adsorbent dosage,initial pH,acetaminophen concentration,temperature and contact time were *** was determined that the adsorption of acetaminophen occurred on uniform sorption sites in the aerogel,as suggested by the best fit of data to the Langmuir isotherm,yielding a maximum adsorption capacity of 252.87 mg/*** highest adsorption performance of the 3D mnO_(2)/rGO aerogel was attained at a dosage of 0.6 g/L,initial pH of 6.2 and temperature of 40℃.The process kinetics were in-line with the pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetics at 10 and 20–500 mg/L concentrations,*** assay showed the spontaneity and endothermicity features of the 3D mnO_(2)/rGO-acetaminophen *** acetaminophen adsorption mechanisms were mainly hydrogen bonding and pore ***,the as-synthesised aerogel was effectively regenerated using acetone and re-utilised in four adsorption-desorption ***,the results highly recommend the implementation of the 3D mnO_(2)/rGO hybrid aerogel for purification of wastewater polluted by acetaminophen residue.

This paper reviews the precursory phenomena of the 2011 mw9 Tohoku earthquake in Japan that emerge solely when we analyze the seismicity data in a new time domain termed natural time. If we do not consider this analysis, important precursory changes cannot be identified and hence are missed. Natural time analysis has the privilege that enables the introduction of an order parameter of seismicity. In this frame, we find that the fluctuations of this parameter exhibit an unprecedented characteristic change, i.e., an evident minimum, approximately two months before Tohoku earthquake, which strikingly is almost simultaneous with unique anomalous geomagnetic field variations recorded mainly on the z component. This is consistent with our finding that such a characteristic change in seismicity appears when a seismic electric signal （SES） activity of the VAN method （from the initials of Varotsos, Alexopoulos, Nomicos） initiates, and provides a direct confirmation of the physical interconnection between SES and seismicity.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors in cancer therapy

In recent years immune checkpoint inhibitors have garnered attention as being one of the most promising types of immunotherapy on the horizon. There has been particular focus on the immune checkpoint molecules, cytotoxic Tlymphocyte antigen-4（CTLA-4） and programmed cell death protein 1（PD-1） which have been shown to have potent immunomodulatory effects through their function as negative regulators of T cell activation. CTLA-4, through engagement with its ligands B7-1（CD80） and B7-2（CD86）, plays a pivotal role in attenuating the activation of naive and memory T cells. In contrast, PD-1 is primarily involved in modulating T cell activity in peripheral tissues via its interaction with PD-L1 and PD-L2. The discovery of these negative regulators of the immune response was crucial in the development of checkpoint inhibitors. This shifted the focus from developing therapies that targeted activation of the host immune system against cancer to checkpoint inhibitors, which aimed to mediate tumor cell destruction through the removal of coinhibitory signals blocking anti-tumor T cell responses.

Using a Collateral Damage model to Explain Survival Data in West Nile Virus Infections

Simulation code for a model of the adaptive immune response seen in flavivirus infections is used to explain the immunopathological consequences seen in West Nile Virus virus (WNV) infections. We use a model that specifically handles the differences in how the virus infects resting cells, the G0 state, versus dividing cells, the G1 state, which includes vastly increased mHC-I upregulation for resting cells over dividing cells. The simulation suggests how the infection progresses in a one host model and the results shed insight into the unusual survival curve data obtained for this infection: there is an increase in health even though viral load has increased.
