Genetic variants of interferon regulatory factor 5 associated with chronic hepatitis B infection

AIM To investigate possible effects of IRF5 polymorphisms in the 3' UTR region of the IFR5 locus on susceptibilityto hepatitis B virus(HBV) infection and progression of liver diseases among clinically classified Vietnamese *** Four IFR5 SNPs(rs13242262 A/T, rs77416878 C/T, rs10488630 A/G, and rs2280714 T/C) were genotyped in clinically classified HBV patients [chronic hepatitis B(CHB). n = 99; liver cirrhosis(LC), n = 131; hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC), n = 149] and in 242 healthy controls by direct sequencing and Taq Man realtime PCR assays. RESULTS Comparing patients and controls, no significant association was observed for the four IFR5 variants. However, the alleles rs13242262 T and rs10488630 G contributed to an increased risk of liver cirrhosis(LC vs CHB: OR = 1.5, 95%CI: 1.1-2.3, adjusted P = 0.04; LC vs CHB: OR = 1.7, 95%CI: 1.1-2.6, adjusted P = 0.019). Haplotype IRF5*TCGT constructed from 4 SNPs was observed frequently in LC compared to CHB patients(OR = 2.1, 95%CI: 1.2-3.3, adjusted P = 0.008). Haplotype IRF5*TCAT occurred rather among CHB patients than in the other HBV patient groups(LC vs CHB: OR = 0.4, 95%CI: 0.2-0.8, adjusted P = 0.03; HCC vs CHB: OR = 0.3, 95%CI: 0.15-0.7, adjusted P = 0.003). The IRF5*TCAT haplotype was also associated with increased levels of ALT, AST and bilirubin. CONCLUSION Our study shows that IFR5 variants may contribute as a host factor in determining the pathogenesis in chronic HBV infections.

Objective:To investigate the prevalence and risk factors associated with long COVID symptoms among children and adolescents who have recovered from ***:This study applied a cross-sectional approach within community settings in a southern province of Vietnam.A structured questionnaire featuring socio-demographic information and common long COVID symptoms was *** correlation coefficients assessed associations among pairs of long COVID ***,multivariable logistic regression models were performed to investigate the risk factors of long COVID in recovered COVID-19 children and ***:Among 422 participants,39.3%reported long COVID symptoms,with a prevalence of 45.2%(SD=0.5)in children and 22.2%(SD=0.4)in *** symptoms reported were cough 34.6%(SD=0.5),fatigue 20.6%(SD=0.4),shortness of breath 10.9%(SD=0.3),and lack of appetite 6.6%(SD=0.3).Concerning risk factors of long COVID,a higher risk was observed among demographic groups,including girls(OR 1.25,95%CI 1.15-1.37;P<0.001,reference:boys),children compared to adolescents(OR 1.24,95%CI 1.12-1.37;P<0.001),overweight individuals(OR 1.14,95%CI 1.02-1.27;P=0.018,reference:healthy weight),and participants without any COVID-19 vaccination(OR 1.36,95%CI 1.20-1.54;P<0.001),or have received only one single dose(OR 1.35,95%CI 1.10-1.64;P=0.004)compared to those who have received two ***,patients with a COVID-19 treatment duration exceeding two weeks also had a higher risk of long COVID(OR 1.32,95%CI 1.09-1.60;P=0.003)than those who recovered less than seven ***:The insights from this study provide crucial guidance for predicting the factors associated with the occurrence of long COVID in pediatric patients,contributing to strategic interventions aimed at mitigating the long COVID risks among children and adolescents in Vietnam.

AIM:To determine the dry eye(DE)rate and its relationship with disease stage in patients with primary ***:A cross-sectional study included 432 patients with primary hypertension(with an equal number of patients in each group:144 in stage Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅲ hypertension)and 144 healthy subjects as a control *** Ocular Surface Disease Index(OSDI)and Schirmer Ⅰ test without anesthetics were conducted on all 576 *** with OSDI scores<13 and Schirmer Ⅰ values equal to or under 10 mm were diagnosed with ***:The ratio of DE in hypertension patients was higher than in the control group(41.7%versus 18.8%;P<0.001).The proportion of patients with DE increased gradually according to the hypertension stage:27.1% in stage Ⅰ,40.3% in stage Ⅱ,and 57.6% in stage Ⅲ,P<***,duration of hypertension,plasma urea,creatinine,and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(CRP-hs)levels in hypertension patients with DE were higher than those without DE,P<*** age,a long duration of hypertension,diabetes mellitus,elevated plasma creatinine,and CRP-hs levels were independent factors associated with DE in primary hypertension patients,P<***:DE is a common disorder associated with advanced age,a long duration of hypertension,diabetes mellitus,elevated plasma CRP-hs,and creatinine levels in patients with primary hypertension.

Cancer is one of the most dangerous diseaseswith *** of the principal treatments is radiotherapy by using radiation beams to destroy cancer cells and this workflow requires a lot of experience and skill from doctors and *** our study,we focused on the 3D dose prediction problem in radiotherapy by applying the deeplearning approach to computed tomography(CT)images of cancer *** image data has more complex characteristics than normal image data,and this research aims to explore the effectiveness of data preprocessing and augmentation in the context of the 3D dose prediction *** proposed four strategies to clarify our hypothesis in different aspects of applying data preprocessing and *** strategies,we trained our custom convolutional neural network model which has a structure inspired by the U-net,and residual blocks were also applied to the *** output of the network is added with a rectified linear unit(Re-Lu)function for each pixel to ensure there are no negative values,which are absurd with radiation *** experiments were conducted on the dataset of the Open Knowledge-Based Planning Challenge which was collected from head and neck cancer patients treatedwith radiation *** results of four strategies showthat our hypothesis is rational by evaluating metrics in terms of the Dose-score and the Dose-volume histogram score(DVH-score).In the best training cases,the Dose-score is 3.08 and the DVH-score is *** addition,we also conducted a comparison with the results of another study in the same context of using the loss function.

Shear strength model of the reinforced concrete beams with embedded through-section strengthening bars

In this study,finite element(FE)analysis is utilized to investigate the shear capacity of reinforced concrete(RC)beams strengthened with embedded through-section(ETS)*** of critical variables on the beam shear strength,including the compressive strength of concrete,stiffness ratio between ETS bars and steel stirrups,and use of ETS strengthening system alone,are parametrically investigated.A promising method based on the bond mechanism between ETS strengthening and concrete is then proposed for predicting the shear resistance forces of the strengthened *** expression for the maximum bond stress of the ETS bars to concrete is *** new expression eliminates the difficulty in the search and selection of appropriate bond parameters from adhesion *** results obtained from the FE models and analytical models are validated by comparison with those measured from the ***,the model proposed in this study demonstrates better performance and more accuracy for prediction of the beam shear-carrying capacity than those of existing *** results obtained from this study can also serve researchers and engineers in selection of the proper shear strength models for design of ETS-strengthened RC beams.
