Establishing two-stage interaction between fly ash and NaOH by X-ray and infrared analyses

The interaction of the fly ash and NaOH, in an open reflux hydrothermal system at 100℃, has been explored by several researchers and formation of fly ash zeolites has been confirmed based on the X-ray diffraction analysis of the residues. However, this method does not reveal much about the characteristic transitions （viz. elemental, electro-negativity and cation exchange capa- city） of the residues. In this situation, resorting to Fourier transform-infrared radiation （FT-IR） spectroscopy on the residues obtained from two-stage hydrothermal treatment process, described in this manuscript, appears to be a novel idea to establish transitions in chemical bonds （viz., -Si- OH-AI-, OH-Na, OH-A1-）, crystallinity and cation exchange capacity of these residues. Based on extensive studies, it has been demonstrated that FT-IR spectroscopy is extremely useful for 1） detection of chemical bonds in the residues, 2） evaluation of zeolites in the residues and 3） also establishing the superiority of the two-stage interac- tion of the fly ash with NaOH for synthesizing better fly ash zeolites （viz., Na-P1 and Hydroxysodalte） as compared to those obtained from the conventional single-stage treatment of the fly ash.

AIM：To compare the potential protective effects of epigallocatechin gallate（EGCG） and ellagic acid（EA） in an experimental cataract model.●METHODS：Twenty-eight Spraque-Dawley rat pups were assigned into four *** the rats,except for those in the control group,were injected subcutaneously sodium selenite to induce experimental cataract on the postpartum ninth day,and between 10 th and 14 th *** in the sham,EGCG,and EA groups were intraperitoneally administered 50 mg/（kg·d） saline solution,50 mg/（kg·d） EGCG and 200 mg/（kg·d） EA,*** reduced glutathione（GSH） and malondialdehyde（MDA） levels,total antioxidant status（TAS） and total oxidant status（TOS） in lens supernatants were ***：The mean cataract gradings in EGCG and EA groups were found to be significantly lower than that in sham group（P〈0.001）.The mean GSH levels and TASs in EGCG and EA groups were significantly higher than that in sham group while mean MDA levels and TOSs in EGCG and EA groups were significantly lower than that in the sham group（P〈0.001）.CONCLUSION：EGCG and EA have protective effects on cataract development via the inhibition of oxidative stress.

The authors present a case study to demonstrate the possibility of discovering complex and interesting latent structures using hierarchical latent class （HLC） models. A similar effort was made earlier by Zhang （2002）, but that study involved only small applications with 4 or 5 observed variables and no more than 2 latent variables due to the lack of efficient learning algorithms. Significant progress has been made since then on algorithmic research, and it is now possible to learn HLC models with dozens of observed variables. This allows us to demonstrate the benefits of HLC models more convincingly than before. The authors have successfully analyzed the CoIL Challenge 2000 data set using HLC models. The model obtained consists of 22 latent variables, and its structure is intuitively appealing. It is exciting to know that such a large and meaningful latent structure can be automatically inferred from data.

AIM:Intestinal parasitic diseases are commonly accompanied with diarrhoeal symptoms and allergic *** occurs as a result of IL-5 synthesized from Th2 cells during allergic ***-5 acts as a factor activating eosinophils. The aim of this study was to compare the IL-5 cytokine measurements in serum samples and cell *** also to compare eosinophilia observed in helminth infections and protozoon infections accompanied with allergy. METHODS:Twenty-three patients who presented with diarrhoeal symptoms and allergic complaints were tested positive for intestinal parasites,as well as 21 controls with allergic complaints who did not have any intestinal parasites were included in this ***-5 production in in vitro cell cultures prepared by using phytohemaglutinin (PHA) to stimulate peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) obtained from the blood samples taken from these patients were compared with the IL-5 level in ***, the IL-5 production in protozoon and helminth infections was also *** eosinophil values in 1 mm^3 of blood were calculated by means of peripheral smear in both groups within the scope of the study. Objectives:We aimed to evaluate the effect of percutaneous atrial septal defect(ASD)closure in children using right heart indices and serum galectin-3(Gal-3),as potential biomarkers of right heart ***:This case–control prospective study included 40 children with ASD and 25 control *** echocardiographic evaluation was performed before the procedure,as well as 24 h,1 month,and 6 months after *** Gal-3 was measured before,and 1 month after the ***:Serum Gal-3 concentration,right atrial(RA)dimensions,right ventricular(RV)dimensions,indexed RA area,and right index of myocardial performance(RIMP)were significantly increased in children with ASD compared with control subjects while tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion(TAPSE)was significantly *** months after closure,RA,and RV dimensions significantly decreased and RVfunction improved(RIMP decreased and TAPSE increased).Gal-3 oncentration significantly decreased 1 month after ASD closure,but it did not reach normal range compared with control subjects.A positive correlation between Gal-3 and age at closure,RA area,RV dimensions,and RIMP was observed.A positive correlation was observed between the decrease in Gal-3 concentration and the decrease in RA area and RV dimensions 1 month after ASD closure.A significant negative correlation was observed between TAPSE and Gal-3 concentration before and after ***:Percutaneous ASD closure can improve right-sided indices and decrease serum Gal-3 ***-3 can be used as a sensitive biomarker of right heart remodeling,with a decrease in Gal-3 concentration suggesting reversal of maladaptive remodeling.

Sea level change affects human living conditions, particularly ocean coasts. However, sea level change is still unclear along the Black Sea coast due to lack of in-situ measurements and low resolution satellite data. In this paper, sea level change along the Black Sea coast is investigated from joint satellite altimetry, tide gauge {TG） and Global Positioning System （GPS） observations. The linear trend and seasonal components of sea level change are estimated at 8 TG stations （Amasra, Igneada, Trabzon-II, Sinop, Sile, Poti, Tuapse, and Batumi） located along the Black Sea coast, which are compared with Satellite Altimetry and GPS. At the tide gauge stations with long-term records such as Poti （about 21 years） and Tuapse （about 19 years）, the results obtained from the satellite altimetry and tide gauge observations show a remarkably good agreement. While some big differences are existed between Satellite Altimetry and TG at other stations, after adding vertical motion from GPS, correlation coefficients of the trend have been greatly improved from 0.37 to 0.99 at 3 co-located GPS and TG stations （Trabzon-II, Sinop and Sile）.
