Enhanced Osteogenesis of Nanosized Cobalt-substituted Hydroxyapatite

Hydroxyapatite （HAp） is an extensively studied material with known biocompatible and osteoconductive properties in bone tissue reconstruction. The improvement of the osteogenetic potential of HAp has been tested through modification of its structure, by replacing Ca2＋ ions with Co2＋ ions. In our study, we comparatively analyze the osteogenetic potential of the syn- thesized HAp and Co2＋-substituted HAp （HAp/Co） designed on the nano-scale with the aim of specifically stimulating osteo- genesis in vivo. We present a quantitative study of the microscopic organization and structure of the newly formed tissue in a bone defect after 12 weeks and 24 weeks. A quantitative analysis of the calcium, magnesium and phosphorus content in the defect and its close environment was used to determine the deposition of minerals after bone reconstruction. The defect recon- structed with HAp/Co nanoparticles （Co2＋ content 12 wt%） was filled with a new tissue matrix composed of dense collagen fibers containing centers of mineralization after 24 weeks. The mineral deposition rate was also higher when the defect was reconstructed with HAp/Co than when it was filled with pttre HAp. A histological analysis confirmed that the alveolar bone, in which osteoporosis-induced defects were repaired using HAp/Co nanoparticles, was recuperated.

Computer simulation of flow and mixing at the duodenal stump after gastric resection

AIM： To investigate the flow and mixing at the duodenal stump after gastric resection, a computer simulation was implemented. METHODS： Using the finite element method, two different Billroth fl procedure cases （A and B） were modeled. Case A was defined with a shorter and almost straight duodenal section, while case B has a much longer and curved duodenal section. Velocity, pressure and food concentration distribution were determined and the numerical results were compared with experimental observations. RESULTS： The pressure distribution obtained by numerical simulation was in the range of the recorded experimental results. Case A had a more favorable pressure distribution in comparison with case B. However, case B had better performance in terms of food transport because of more continual food distribution, as well as better emptying of the duodena section. CONCLUSION： This study offers insight into the transport process within the duodenal stump section after surgical intervention, which can be useful for future patient-specific predictions of a surgical outcome.

Laser-induced thermocapillary deformation of liquid surfaces has emerged as a promising tool to precisely characterize the thermophysical properties of pure ***,challenges arise for nanofluid(NF)and soft biofluid systems where the direct interaction of the laser generates an intriguing interplay between heating,momentum,and scattering forces which can even damage soft ***,we report a versatile,pump-probe-based,rapid,and non-contact interferometric technique that resolves interface dynamics of complex fluids with the precision of~1 nm in thick-film and 150 pm in thin-film regimes below the thermal limit without the use of lock-in or modulated *** characterize the thermophysical properties of complex NF in three exclusively different types of ***,when the NF is heated from the bottom through an opaque substrate,we demonstrate that our methodology permits the measurement of thermophysical properties(viscosity,surface tension,and diffusivity)of complex NF and ***,in a top illumination configuration,we show a precise characterization of NF by quantitively isolating the competing forces,taking advantage of the different time scales of these ***,we show the measurement of NF confined in a metal cavity,in which the transient thermoelastic deformation of the metal surface provides the properties of the NF as well as thermo-mechanical properties of the *** results reveal how the dissipative nature of the heatwave allows us to investigate thick-film dynamics in the thin-film regime,thereby suggesting a general approach for precision measurements of complex NFs,biofluids,and optofluidic devices.

Evaluation of Earthquake Emergency Plan Based on SD Model

Based on the system dynamics(SD) model, this paper puts forward a quantitative method to evaluate the earthquake emergency plan in China. Firstly, we analyze the disaster system structure and the content of plan. Using the analysis results, we establish a system dynamics(SD) model and then carry out its simulation. According to the simulation results, the rescue effect using the plan of 2012 is better than that of 2006. From the policy level, in order to reduce loss, government should maintain communication smoothly, improve the ability of self and mutual help, strengthen the management of public opinion, and pay more attention to secondary disasters.

Heart failure(HF)is a major public health problem with a prevalence of 1%-2%in developed *** underlying pathophysiology of HF is complex and as a clinical syndrome is characterized by various symptoms and *** is classified according to left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF)and falls into three groups:LVEF≥50%-HF with preserved ejection fraction(HFpEF),LVEF<40%-HF with reduced ejection fraction(HFrEF),LVEF 40%-49%-HF with mid-range ejection *** HF is primarily a clinical approach and it is based on anamnesis,physical examination,echocardiogram,radiological findings of the heart and lungs and laboratory tests,including a specific markers of HF-brain natriuretic peptide or N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide as well as other diagnostic tests in order to elucidate possible *** diagnostic algorithms for HFpEF have been recommended(H2FPEF,HFA-PEFF).New therapeutic options improve clinical outcomes as well as functional status in patients with HFrEF(e.g.,sodium-glucose cotransporter-2-SGLT2 inhibitors)and such progress in treatment of HFrEF patients resulted in new working definition of the term“HF with recovered left ventricular ejection fraction”.In line with rapid development of HF treatment,cardiac rehabilitation becomes an increasingly important part of overall approach to patients with chronic HF for it has been proven that exercise training can relieve symptoms,improve exercise capacity and quality of life as well as reduce disability and hospitalization *** gave an overview of latest insights in HF diagnosis and treatment with special emphasize on the important role of cardiac rehabilitation in such patients.

Production of copper powders by the potentiostatic electrolysis under different hydrogen evolution conditions was investigated. Copper powders were characterized by the scanning electron microscope(SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),particle size distribution(PSD), and by the determination of the specific surface area(SSA) of the formed powders. Depending on quantity of hydrogen generated during electrolysis, the two types of particles were formed: dendrites and cauliflower-like particles. The dendrites were formed without, while cauliflower-like particles with the quantity of evolved hydrogen enough to achieve strong effect on hydrodynamic conditions in the near-electrode layer. Although macro structure of the particles was very different, they showed similar micro structure. Namely, both types of the particles consisted of smalal agglomerates of approximately spherical Cu grains at the micro level. The existence of the spherical morphology was just responsible for random orientation of Cu crystallites in both types of particles. The SSA of cauliflower-like particles was more than two times larger than that of the dendrites, while their size was considerably smaller than that of the dendritic particles. In this way, the useful benefit of Cu powder formation in the conditions of vigorous hydrogen evolution is shown.
