Diabetes is a highly prevalent disease that was initially simplified into three major types:Type 1,type 2 and gestational *** the global rise in incidence of acute pancreatitis(AP),a lesser-known type of diabetes referred to as diabetes of the exocrine pancreas(DEP)is becoming more ***,there is a poor understanding of the inherent relationship between diabetes and *** is established data about certain diseases affecting the exocrine function of the pancreas which can lead to *** specifically,there are well established guidelines for diagnosis and management of DEP caused be chronic ***,the sequelae of AP leading to diabetes has limited recognition and *** purpose of this review is to provide a comprehensive summary of the prevalence,epidemiology,pathophysiology and future research aims of APrelated *** addition,we propose a screening and diagnostic algorithm to aid clinicians in providing better care for their patients.

Association between serum vitamin D levels and gastric cancer:A retrospective chart analysis

AIM To determine whether there is an increased risk of gastric adenocarcinoma associated with vitamin D deficiency(VDd).METHODS A retrospective case control study was performed of all patients diagnosed with gastric adenocarcinoma between 2005 and *** we excluded the patients without a documented vitamin D level,49 patients were included in our *** The average age of patients with gastric adenocarcinoma and documented vitamin D level was 64 years old(95%CI: 27-86) and average vitamin D level was 20.8 mg/d L(95%CI: 4-44).Compared to a matched control group,the prevalence of VDd/insufficiency in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma was significantly higher than normal vitamin D levels(83.7% vs 16.3%).Forty-one patients(83.7%) with adenocarcinoma showed VDd/insufficiency compared to 18(37%) patients with normal vitamin D level without gastric cancer(OR: 8.8,95%CI: 5-22,P value < 0.0001).The average age of males with gastric adenocarcinoma diagnosis was 60 years old vs 68 years old for females(P = 0.01).StageⅡ gastric adenocarcinoma was the most prevalent in our study(37%).CONCLUSION We reported a positive relationship between VDd and gastric adenocarcinoma,that is to say,patients with decreased VDd levels have an increased propensity for gastric adenocarcinoma.

High throughput RNA sequencing utility for diagnosis and prognosis in colon diseases

RNA sequencing is the use of hight hroughput next generation sequencing technology to survey, characterize, and quantify the transcriptome of a genome. RNA sequencing has been used to analyze the pathogenesis of several malignancies such melanoma, lung cancer, and colorectal cancer. RNA sequencing can identify differential expression of genes(DEG's), mutated genes, fusion genes, and gene isoforms in disease states. RNA sequencing has been used in the investigation of several colorectal diseases such as colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease(ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease), and irritable bowel syndrome.

In order to ensure that the highest quality of literature is published, most journals utilize a peer review process for manuscripts submitted. Although the primary purpose for this process is to filter out "bad science", the process is not perfect. While there is a general consensus among researchers and clinicians that something must be done to improve upon the method for properly vetting manuscripts, there are conflicting opinions on how to best implement new policies. In this paper, we discuss the most well-supported suggestions to improve the process, with the hopes of increasing rigor and reproducibility, ensuring double-blinding, developing set guidelines, offering early training to reviewers, and giving reviewers better feedback and recognition for their work.
