Objective: To determine whether corosolic acid(CA) targeting nuclear protein expression of Nrf2 activation can be used to attenuate renal damage and preserve renal function in alloxan diabetic ***: A mouse model with diabetic nephropathy was established to examine the Nrf2 expression. Mice were randomly divided into control, diabetic control, and CA groups treated at 0.4 mg/kg, 2 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg p.o. for 8 weeks. diabetes was induced in mice by single intraperitoneal injection of alloxan 200 mg/kg in all groups except the control. The mice with fasting blood glucose level over 200 mg/d L were considered as diabetic and were employed in the study. After 4 th and 8 th weeks, urine samples were collected(using metabolic cages) to measure protein and urea. Animals were euthanized, and serum samples were collected to estimate the glucose, creatinine, total protein, urea and blood urea nitrogen. Kidney was isolated at the end of experiment for histology to evaluate anti-oxidant parameters. Immunohistochemistry was performed to examine the Nrf2 ***: CA treatment showed dose dependent reduction in level of biochemical parameters in serum and urine. CA group(10 mg/kg) showed significantly higher body weight and reduced kidney weight. Histopathological examination revealed reduced inflammation, collagen deposition and glomerulosclerosis in renal tissue. CA attenuated renal dysfunction, oxidative stress and inflammatory pro-cytokine ***: CA treatment exhibited ameliorative effect on kidney in mice with its enhanced Nrf2 expression.

We developed a method for in vitro regenera- tion of Garcinia xanthochymus （yellow mangosteen） from matured seed segments. Multiple shoots were induced on woody plant （WP） medium supplemented with cytokinins. An average of 11 shoots per explant were regenerated from mature seed segments on WP medium containing 20 μM 6-benzylaminopurine. Histological analysis revealed that hypodermal cells of seed segments were initially involved in active division, which later developed into meriste- moids, subsequently leading to the formation of shoot buds. Shoot elongation was achieved by repeated subculturing of seed explants in shoot regeneration medium. Rooting of shoots was achieved on WP medium supplemented with indole-3-butyric acid or s-naphthalene acetic acid. Plant- lets were transplanted to pots containing soil： compost （1：1） and survival rate was 90 %.

Optimization of microwave-assisted extraction for picroside I and picroside II from Picrorrhiza kurroa using Box-Behnken experimental design

The response surface methodology was employed to study the optimization of microwave-assisted extraction of picroside I and picroside II from Picrorrhiza kurroa Royle rhizomes. The effects of solid to solvent ratio, and extraction temperature, time and solvent on the yields ofpicroside I and picroside II have been investigated using Box-Behnken experimental design. The experimen- tal data were fitted to second-order polynomial equations using multiple regression analysis and analyzed using the appropriate statistical method. By solving the regression equation and analyzing 3-d plots, the optimum extraction conditions were found to be： solid to solvent ratio, 10 ： 90 （w/v）; temperature, 60 ~C; and extraction time, 60 s. Under the optimal conditions, the yields of picroside I and picroside II are 41.23 and 6.12 *** feed respectively, which are in good agreement with the predicted values. The ratio of solid to solvent significantly affects the yields of picroside I and picroside II. Application of microwave- assisted extraction of picroside I and picroside II from P kurroa would dramatically reduce extraction time and solvent consumption.

Environmentally benign one-pot protocol is used in the synthesis of silver nanoparticles （AgNPs） in powder form, involving the reduction of silver nitrate in the presence of fully hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol （PVA） as stabilizer by hydrogen （H2） as reducing agent in aqueous medium. Fully hydrolyzed biodegradable PVA has extremely low cytotoxicity, making it a favorable stabilizer from green perspective. In the present methodology, essentially naked silver nanoparticles are obtained in good yield. The prepared sil- ver nanoparticles were characterized by TEM, XRd, EdAX, UV-Vis spectroscopy and dLS histogram, and studied for its activity as a recyclable catalyst for synthesis of different enaminones.
