Genomic prediction of the performance of hybrids and the combining abilities for line by tester trials in maize

The two most important activities in maize breeding are the development of inbred lines with high values of general combining ability(GCA)and specific combining ability(SCA),and the identification of hybrids with high yield *** selection(GS)is a promising genomic tool to perform selection on the untested breeding material based on the genomic estimated breeding values estimated from the genomic prediction(GP).In this study,GP analyses were carried out to estimate the performance of hybrids,GCA,and SCA for grain yield(GY)in three maize line-by-tester trials,where all the material was phenotyped in 10 to 11 multiple-location trials and genotyped with a mid-density molecular marker *** showed that the prediction abilities for the performance of hybrids ranged from 0.59 to0.81 across all trials in the model including the additive effect of lines and *** the model including both additive and non-additive effects,the prediction abilities for the performance of hybrids were improved and ranged from 0.64 to 0.86 across all *** prediction abilities of the GCA for GY were low,ranging between-0.14 and 0.13 across all trials in the model including only inbred lines;the prediction abilities of the GCA for GY were improved and ranged from 0.49 to 0.55 across all trials in the model including both inbred lines and testers,while the prediction abilities of the SCA for GY were negative across all *** prediction abilities for GY between testers varied from-0.66 to 0.82;the performance of hybrids between testers is difficult to *** offers the opportunity to predict the performance of new hybrids and the GCA of new inbred lines based on the molecular marker information,the total breeding cost could be reduced dramatically by phenotyping fewer multiple-location trials.

The effect of dispersivity on thermodynamic and kinetic parameters of chemical reactions in nanodispersed systems is theoretically investigated. On the basis of the established theoretical dependences the new method of determination of surface thermodynamic properties of nanoparticles (surface enthalpy, surface entropy and surface energy) by thermal analysis (DTA or DSC) was developed. Three examples of calculation of surface properties of nanoparticles were presented to prove the feasibility of this method.

Ehealth monitoring in irritable bowel syndrome patients treated with low fermentable oligo-, di-, mono-saccharides and polyols diet

In the present study we report on changes in irritable bowel syndrome-severity scoring system (IBS-SSS) and irritable bowel syndrome-quality of life (IBS-QoL) in 19 IBS patients, aged 18 to 74 years (F/m: 14/5), during 12 wk registering their symptoms on the web-application (***). During a control period of the first 6-wk patients were asked to register their IBS-SSS and IBS-QoL on the web-application weekly without receiving any intervention. Thereafter, low fermentable oligo-, di-, mono-saccharides and polyols (FODmAP) diet (LFD) was introduced for the next 6 wk while continuing the registration. Though a small sample size a significant improvement in disease activity (IBS-SSS) was observed during both the control period, median: 278 (range: 122-377), P = 0.02, and subsequently during the LFD period, median: 151 (range: 29-334), P median: 67 (37-120), P mptoms when presented as a “traffic light”. However adding the diet reduced IBS-SSS to mild symptoms. In the future results from larger scale trials are awaited.

Evaluation of 5 versus 10 granulocyteaphaeresis sessions in steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis: A pilot, prospective, multicenter, randomized study

AIm： To evaluate the efficacy of 5 compared to ：tO granulocyteaphaeresis sessions in patients with active steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis. mETHODS： In this pilot, prospective, multicenter randomized trial, 20 patients with moderately active steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis were randomized to 5 or 10 granulocyteaphaeresis sessions. The primary objective was clinical remission at wk 17. Secondary measures included endoscopic remission and steroid consumption.RESULTS： Nine patients were randomized to 5 granulocyteaphaeresis sessions （group 1） and 11 patients to 10 granulocyteaphaeresis sessions （group 2）. At wk 17, 37.5% of patients in group 1 and 45.45% of patients in group 2 were in clinical remission. Clinical remission was accompanied by endoscopic remission in all cases. Eighty-six percent of patients achieving remission were steroid-free at wk 17. Daily steroid requirements were significantly lower in group 2. Eighty-nine per cent of patients remained in remission during a one year follow-up. One serious adverse event, not related to the study therapy, was reported. CONCLUSION： Granulocyteaphaeresis is safe and effective for the treatment of steroid-dependent ulcerative colitis. In this population, increasing the number of aphaeresis sessions is not associated with higher remission rates, but affords a significant steroid-sparing effect.

An unusual feature of the saline stratified lakes that were formed due to ongoing postglacial uplift on the White Sea coast is the presence of several differently colored thin layers in the zone with sharp gradients. Colored layers in five lakes at various stages of separation from the sea were investigated using optical microscopy, spectrophotometry, spectrofluorimetry, and photobiology. The upper greenish colored layer located in the aerobic strata of all lakes near the compensation depth of 1% light penetration contains green algae. In the chemocline, another layer, brightly green, red or pink, is dominated by mixotrophic flagellates. Despite the very low light intensities and the presence of H 2 S, active photosynthesis by these algae appears to be occurring, as indicated by high values of the maximum quantum yield of primary photochemistry, electron transport activity, photosynthetic activity of photosystem II, the fraction of active centers, and low values of heat dissipation. In the reduced zone of the chemocline, a dense green or brown suspension of anoxygenic phototrophs(green sulfur bacteria) is located.

The Effect of Balanced Hypocaloric Diet on the Anthropometric and Basic metabolic Indicators in Infertile Women with Gluteofemoral Obesity

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of balanced hypocaloric diet therapy on the anthropometric and basic metabolic indicators in obese women with infertility. methods: The follow up interventional clinical study included 23 infertile women in reproductive age with grade I gluteofemoral obesity. All patients have prescribed a balanced hypocaloric diet (1200 kcal/day), underwent exercise and behavioral therapy. Before and after 12-month treatment, an anthropometric study was conducted, determining the level of metabolic and hormonal indicators. Results: The total final number of study participants was 20 patients. A decrease in body weight was achieved in 87% of patients from 4 to 24 kg, on the average, by 10.58 ± 5.70 kg, there was also a decrease in BmI from 32.53 ± 1.40 to 28.55 ± 2.50 kg/m2 (p 0.001). The decrease in body weight was accompanied by a statistically significant decrease in leptin levels (p 0.001), E1 (p = 0.049), E2 (p = 0.032), fasting glucose (p 0.001), HOmA-IR (p = 0.002), cholesterol (p ma (p menstrual cycles were resumed in all women (p = 0.007) and pregnancy occurred within a year in 1 patient. Conclusion: The implementation of a hypocaloric diet for 12 months in infertile women with first-degree obesity helps to normalize metabolic and hormonal indicators, reduces body weight and restores ovulatory menstrual cycle in all patients.

URTI （upper respiratory tract infections） are caused by acute, chronic or recurrent infections including pharyngitis andtonsillitis. The etiologic agents involved are bacteria, virus, and fungi. The standard treatment for bacterial infections is the use ofantibiotics. The antibiotic resistance, side effects of drugs and URTI complications indicate the importance of new therapies. PDT（photodynamic therapy） is a treatment option with a fast onset of action, low side effects, and easy administration of PS（photosensitizer） based on this study. The main aim of this study was to develop a new modality for the treatment of infectiouspharyngotonsillitis by photodynamic therapy. In addition, this study aims to evaluate components of the therapy as the PS, curcumin,in two formulations and irradiation conditions in the effectiveness of treatment. The procedure consists of two steps： oraladministration of CFs （curcumin formulations） containing a PS and illumination （450 nm and 0-60 J/cm2）. Bacterial isolates wereobtained from patients in a routine clinical pratice. The new methodology has been developed from the principle ofPI （photodynamicinactivation）. The strain identification number of colony forming units determined the efficacy of PI using each component, lightingand PS. The use of curcumin formulations in PI presented microbial reduction of 5 log.
