Problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating fuel cell conditions require the identification of alternativ. supports for platinum-based nanosized *** supported on manganese v.nadate(Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6))was prepared by microwav. irradiation method and characterized using X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersiv. spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BOR)on Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) was studied in highly alkaline media using v.ltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activ.ty of Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) was also compared with that of commercial Pt/C(46 wt%Pt)*** apparent activ.tion energy of BOR at Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of reaction to be 0.51,indicating that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) under BOR typical conditions was observ.d.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride fuel cell assembled with a Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) anode reached a specific power of 274 W g^(-1).Experimental results on Pt/Mnv.(2)O_(6) were complemented by DFT calculations,which indicated good adherence of Pt to Mnv.(2)O_(6),beneficial for electrocatalyst stability.

AIM: To inquire into a question of an ov.restimation of arterial inv.lv.ment in patients with pancreatic cancer (PC). METHODS: Radiology data were compared with the findings from 51 standard, 58 extended and 17 total pancreaticoduodenectomies; 9 distal resections with celiac artery (CA) excision; and 28 palliations for PC. The surv.v.l of 11 patients with controv.rsial computed tomography (CT) and endoscopic ultrasound data with regard to arterial inv.sion, after R0/R1 procedures (false-positiv. CT results, Group A), was compared to surv.v.l after eight R2 resections (false-negativ. CT results, Group B) and after 12 bypass procedures for locally adv.nced cancer (true-positiv. CT results, Group C).RESULTS: In all of the cases in group A, operativ. exploration rev.aled no arterial inv.sion, which was predicted by CT. The one-year surv.v.l in Group A was 88.9%, and the two-year surv.v.l was 26.7%, with a median follow-up of 22 mo. One-year surv.v.l was not attained in groups B and C, with a significant difference in surv.v.l (P a-b = 0.0029, P b-c = 0.003).CONCLUSION: Arterial encasement on CT does not necessarily indicate arterial inv.sion. Whenev.r PC is considered unresectable, endoUS should be used. In patients with controv.rsial CT an EUS data for peripan-creatic arteries inv.lv.ment radical resection might be possible, prov.ding surv.v.l benefits as compared to R2-resections or palliativ. surgery.

In the present work, disturbances of the half-transparency frequency fbEs of the ionospheric sporadic E-layer are inv.stigated in connection with earthquakes. The fbEs-frequency is proportional to the square root of the maximum ionisation density of the sporadic E-layer. In this work, it is shown that in 2/3 of the cases, two days before a seismic shock with magnitude M > 5.5 and on the day of the shock, an increase of the fbEs-frequency is obtained at sunset hours at distances from the epicenter R km. In contrast, before sunrise, the fbEs-v.lue decreases. The data analysed are obtained by the three v.rtical ionospheric sounding stations“Kokubunji”, “Yamagawa”, and “Wakkanai” during some tens of years.

Quantitativ. determination of hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) and candesartan (CDS) in human plasma in v.lunteers was performed using a sensitiv., selectiv. and specific LC-MS method which has been dev.loped and v.lidated before the study. The study was performed by means of a liquid chromatograph Shimadzu Prominence equipped with a mass spectrometer LCMS-2020. Analytical column PerfectBond ODS-HD HPLC-column 5 μm 250 × 3.0 mm with a pre-column cartridge PerfectBond ODS-HD 5 μm 10 × 3.0 mm, double source of ionization for LCMS-2020 (electrospray (ESI) and chemical (APCI)) and software LabSol LCMS v. LCMS2020 systempack were used. The low limit of the quantitativ. determination for HCTZ and CDS made up 10 ng/ml. m/z for CDS 441.20—positiv. scan, m/z for HCTZ 295.90—negativ. scan. The method has been applied to a pharmacokinetic study of 12.5 mg HCTZ and 16 mg CDS tablet in healthy v.lunteers.

Enhanced CH4 yield by photocatalytic CO2 reduction using TiO2 nanotube arrays grafted with Au, Ru, and ZnPd nanoparticles

Metal nanoparticle （NP） co-catalysts on metal oxide semiconductor supports are attracting attention as photocatalysts for a v.riety of chemical reactions. Related efforts seek to make and use Pt-free catalysts. In this regard, we report here enhanced CH4 formation rates of 25 and 60 μmol·g^-1·h^-1 by photocatalytic CO2 reduction using hitherto unused ZnPd NPs as well as Au and Ru NPs. The NPs are formed by colloidal synthesis and grafted onto short n-type anatase TiO2 nanotube arrays （TNAs）, grown anodically on transparent glass substrates. The interfacial electric fields in the NP-grafted TiO2 nanotubes were probed by ultrav.olet photoelectron spectroscopy （UPS）. Au NP-grafted TiO2 nanotubes （Au-TNAs） showed no band bending, but a depletion region was detected in Ru NP-grafted TNAs （Ru-TNAs） and an accumulation layer was observ.d in ZnPd NP-grafted TNAs （ZnPd-TNAs）. Temperature programmed desorption （TPD） experiments showed significantly greater CO2 adsorption on NP-grafted TNAs. TNAs with grafted NPs exhibit broader and more intense Uv.v.sible absorption bands than bare TNAs. We found that CO2 photoreduction by nanoparticle-grafted TNAs was driv.n not only by ultrav.olet photons with energies greater than the TiO2 band gap, but also by blue photons close to and below the anatase band edge. The enhanced rate of CO2 reduction is attributed to superior use of blue photons in the solar spectrum, excellent reactant adsorption, efficient charge transfer to adsorbates, and low recombination losses.
