The Effect of Ultra Low Concentrations of Some Biologically Active Substances on the Aerobic Respiration

For today it is known, that primary and secondary disorders of the aerobic respiration, which are based on mitochondrial deficiency, lead to a wide spectrum of clinical manifestations and diseases. Therefore, the question about effective correction of various types of energy exchange disorders remains topical. Thus, the aim of our work was the study effect of the complex of biologically active substances (BAS) in ultra low concentrations on the activity of key enzymes of aerobic energy metabolism succinate dehydrogenase (EC 1.***.99.1) (SQR) and mitochondrial glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (EC 1.***.99.5) (GPD2). The human lymphocytes assays were tested in vitro (22 donors). In negative control lymphocytes, cell culture normal saline solution was added. Normal saline solution with NaN3 was added in positive control lymphocytes cell culture. Experimental cell culture contained NaN3 and BAS. Our investigations had been revealed increase SQR activity in the experimental cell culture as compared with positive control culture throughout the time of experiment (measurements were carried out at 4, 24, 48, 72 h of incubation). The SQR activity of experimental cell culture and negative control lymphocytes cell culture was equal up to 24 h of experiment. It showed neutralization of NaN3 inhibitory effect (during 24 h) due to BAS influence. Activity of base glycerophosphate shunt ferment GPD2 of experimental lymphocyte cell culture was not different from GPD2 index in the negative control, but was lower than GPD2 activity in the positive control. It also indicated neutralization NaN3 inhibitory effect due to BAS influence. So we had found that extremely low concentrations of selected BAS with their complex impact on human lymphocytes in vitro could effectively neutralize the inhibitory effect of NaN3 on processes of aerobic energy metabolism link.

The kinetics of camphene production in liquid phase from α-pinene was experimentally determined in an isothermal batch reactor. To this end, a sulfated ZrO2 catalyst was used and the reaction studied in the temperature range of 370-403 K. By analyzing the experimental data, second reaction order for α-pinene was found. A kinetic model is presented which includes term for the catalyst load used. The specific rate constant at 393K was 2.19×10^-3 mol·L^-1·min^-1, the activation energy being 93kJ·mo1·^-1. Both values are within the range of literature results.

Evolutionary history of mountain voles of the subgenus Aschizomys (Cricetidae, Rodentia), inferred from mitochondrial and nuclear markers

In this study,we present an assessment of the evolutionary history and phylogenetic relationships of Asian mountain voles of the subgenus Aschizomys,genus Alticola,based on extensive sampling and phylogenetic analyses of data from mitochondrial and nuclear *** species of this subgenus are widespread in the mountain areas of north-eastern ***,both their distribution and taxonomic borders remained questionable for more than 100 *** study showed discordance in the phylogenetic patterns between nuclear and mtDNA *** found that mtDNA in *** is paraphyletic relative to ***,but nuclear markers demonstrated reciprocal *** to species distribution modeling,ranges of *** and *** experienced a secondary contact during the Last Glacial Maximum(approximately 22 kyr BP),and thus a hybridization event seems plausible during that *** tree analyses recovered a sister group relationship between the two species of the Aschizomys subgenus,with an estimated divergence date of around 0.8 *** results provided good support for currently recognized subspecies within both *** and *** based on mitochondrial and nuclear datasets.A new,yet undescribed form,supposedly of a subspecific status within ***,was found in the Bureinskiy Range in the Khabarovsk *** finding expands the current species distribution range further to the southeast.

Problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating fuel cell conditions require the identification of alternative supports for platinum-based nanosized *** supported on manganese vanadate(Pt/Mnv_(2)O_(6))was prepared by microwave irradiation method and characterized using X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BOR)on Pt/Mnv_(2)O_(6) was studied in highly alkaline media using voltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activity of Pt/Mnv_(2)O_(6) was also compared with that of commercial Pt/C(46 wt%Pt)*** apparent activation energy of BOR at Pt/Mnv_(2)O_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of reaction to be 0.51,indicating that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of Pt/Mnv_(2)O_(6) under BOR typical conditions was observed.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride fuel cell assembled with a Pt/Mnv_(2)O_(6) anode reached a specific power of 274 W g^(-1).Experimental results on Pt/Mnv_(2)O_(6) were complemented by DFT calculations,which indicated good adherence of Pt to Mnv_(2)O_(6),beneficial for electrocatalyst stability.

Hepatotoxicity Induced by High Dose of Methylprednisolone Therapy in a Patient with Multiple Sclerosis: A Case Report and Brief Review of Literature

Toxic hepatitis due to drugs is an important and frequent drug adverse reaction in clinical practice. Here, we report a case of high dose methylprednisolone-induced acute hepatitis in a 51-year-old woman that suffers from multiple sclerosis while steroids are usually safe drugs with regards to liver injury and even they are the treatment choice of autoimmune hepatitis, but the literatures about corticosteroids showed are not entirely safe to liver injury and they have occasionally linked to hepatotoxicity. Although recent reports have demonstrated that prednisolone may cause hepatitis. This case report includes a brief review of the relevant literature on corticosteroids-induced hepatitis that is presented.

Influence of beam current on microstructure of electron beam melted Ti-6Al-4v alloy

Computed tomography-based diagnostics might be insufficient in the determination of pancreatic cancer unresectability

AIM: To inquire into a question of an overestimation of arterial involvement in patients with pancreatic cancer (PC). METHODS: Radiology data were compared with the findings from 51 standard, 58 extended and 17 total pancreaticoduodenectomies; 9 distal resections with celiac artery (CA) excision; and 28 palliations for PC. The survival of 11 patients with controversial computed tomography (CT) and endoscopic ultrasound data with regard to arterial invasion, after R0/R1 procedures (false-positive CT results, Group A), was compared to survival after eight R2 resections (false-negative CT results, Group B) and after 12 bypass procedures for locally advanced cancer (true-positive CT results, Group C).RESULTS: In all of the cases in group A, operative exploration revealed no arterial invasion, which was predicted by CT. The one-year survival in Group A was 88.9%, and the two-year survival was 26.7%, with a median follow-up of 22 mo. One-year survival was not attained in groups B and C, with a significant difference in survival (P a-b = 0.0029, P b-c = 0.003).CONCLUSION: Arterial encasement on CT does not necessarily indicate arterial invasion. Whenever PC is considered unresectable, endoUS should be used. In patients with controversial CT an EUS data for peripan-creatic arteries involvement radical resection might be possible, providing survival benefits as compared to R2-resections or palliative surgery.

Experimental Sex Inversion of Chicken Embryos at Aromatase Inhibition, Estrogen Receptor Modulation, DNA Demethylation and Progesterone Treatment

The work was carried out by microinjections of an aromatase inhibitor letrozole, an estrogen receptor modulator tamoxifen in incubated eggs Gallus g. domesticus, the first day of incubation. It also used 5-azacytidine (5-AC) at the same time. Injection of progesterone was carried out before the onset of meiosis prophase 1 on 16 h of incubation. Morphologically and histologically and by PCR, sex of the 17-day embryos was controlled. According to information received microinjection of letrozole caused almost a 100% inversion of genetic males to females, which is manifested in the morphology of the gonads. In other experiments, sex reversal is not revealed. The results are obtained in this study, and the data suggest that the presence of gonadogenesis in female chickens makes earlier emergence of aromatase in the beginning of incubation, than that according to the classical scheme of sex determination in birds. Presumably this kind of synthesis is triggered by some W-chromosomal factors. It failed to detect the phenomenon of gender inversion—the transformation of males into females after exposure to demethylating agent 5-AC that casts doubt on the participation of male hypermethylated (MHM)-RNA-segment in regulating the activity of sex determining genes.

Frequency of Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy Clinical Phenotypes in Siberia

Juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (JME) is characterised by myoclonia during awakening, generalised tonic-clonic seizures, typical absences and usually presents for the first time at the age of 12 to 18 years old. This article describes the results of a clinical study into JME phenotypes in patients living in the Siberian Federal District. We have shown that the incidence of JME among males was lower than among females (1:1.9) and JME debut age for males was higher than in those women. Classical phenotype of JME (Type I) was dominant and more common in males compared to females—70.4% vs. 58.5%, respectively. The JME phenotype with worse prognosis in terms of achieving stable clinical remission (Type II) occurred 3.5 times more frequently among female patients compared to male (13.2% vs. 3.7% respectively). The findings resulting from this study give a deeper insight into the diagnosis and prognosis of this form of idiopathic generalised epilepsy in predisposed families.

Enhanced CH4 yield by photocatalytic CO2 reduction using TiO2 nanotube arrays grafted with Au, Ru, and ZnPd nanoparticles

Metal nanoparticle （NP） co-catalysts on metal oxide semiconductor supports are attracting attention as photocatalysts for a variety of chemical reactions. Related efforts seek to make and use Pt-free catalysts. In this regard, we report here enhanced CH4 formation rates of 25 and 60 μmol·g^-1·h^-1 by photocatalytic CO2 reduction using hitherto unused ZnPd NPs as well as Au and Ru NPs. The NPs are formed by colloidal synthesis and grafted onto short n-type anatase TiO2 nanotube arrays （TNAs）, grown anodically on transparent glass substrates. The interfacial electric fields in the NP-grafted TiO2 nanotubes were probed by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy （UPS）. Au NP-grafted TiO2 nanotubes （Au-TNAs） showed no band bending, but a depletion region was detected in Ru NP-grafted TNAs （Ru-TNAs） and an accumulation layer was observed in ZnPd NP-grafted TNAs （ZnPd-TNAs）. Temperature programmed desorption （TPD） experiments showed significantly greater CO2 adsorption on NP-grafted TNAs. TNAs with grafted NPs exhibit broader and more intense Uv-visible absorption bands than bare TNAs. We found that CO2 photoreduction by nanoparticle-grafted TNAs was driven not only by ultraviolet photons with energies greater than the TiO2 band gap, but also by blue photons close to and below the anatase band edge. The enhanced rate of CO2 reduction is attributed to superior use of blue photons in the solar spectrum, excellent reactant adsorption, efficient charge transfer to adsorbates, and low recombination losses.
