A novel approach of combining conventional infrared s.ectros.opy （IR） and atomic force micros.opy （AFM） is.pres.nted to better unders.and the behavior of a drug ads.rbed on a metal s.bs.rate at the nanos.ale level. Tip-enhanced infrared nanos.ectros.opy （TEIRA） was.us.d for the firs. time to inves.igate Lu AA33810, a s.lective brain-penetrating Y5 receptor antagonis., after immobilization on gold nanopartides.（GNPs.. Here, a gold coated AFM tip and gold s.bs.rate were us.d to obtain the near-field electromagnetic field trapping effect. Becaus. of the huge s.gnal enhancement, it was.pos.ible to obtain the s.ectral information regarding the s.lf-as.embled monolayer of the inves.igated molecule. The effect of two orthogonal polarizations.（p- and s.polarization modulations. of the excitation las.r beam on the s.ectral patterns.is.als. dis.us.ed. The res.lts.s.ow that there is.a s.rong relations.ip between the s.ate of polarization of the incident radiation and the relative infrared band intens.ties. Another factor affecting the obs.rved s.ectral differences.is.the topology of the metal s.bs.rate, which may res.lt in the induction of a cros.-polarization effect. The performed analys.s.indicates.that the C--C bond from the cyclohexyl group is.oriented almos. parallel to the metal s.rface. Convers.ly, the p- and s.polarized s.ectral variations.s.gges. that the O=s.--O angle is.high enough to enable the s.multaneous.interaction of both oxygen atoms.with the GNPs.

Functional and Pathological Influence of Hypothermia on s.ike Activity of Cortical Neurons

In s.ns.rimotor cortical s.ices.of guinea pig us.ng local iontophoretic application of glutamate to the s.ma and dendrites.it was.found that a decreas. of temperature of incubating fluid from 34 to 21°C - 22°C changes.the s.matic res.ons.s.to the local injection of glutamate to the dendritic loci, while the res.ons.s.to iontophoretic application of glutamate to the s.ma remain unchanged. Hypothermic changes.in reactivity to dendritic s.imulation s.art below 30°C and coincide with changes.in the s.ontaneous.activity of neurons. both in the direction of increas.ng and decreas.ng the frequency of firing in different nerve cells. On hypothermic decreas. of s.ontaneous.activity, the latencies.of evoked dendritic res.ons.s.on the s.ma became more longer, while on hypothermic increas. of firing level, s.matic s.ike res.ons.s.to iontophoretic application of glutamate to dendritic loci appeared with s.orter latencies. Hypothermic changes.in the phys.ological parameters.of neurons.were accompanied by a drop in s.ike amplitude at the s.me temperature and with its.further decreas.. At the s.me time, there was.a decreas. of s.ike reaction to iontophoretic application of acetylcholine below 30°. It is.propos.d that the reas.n for hypothermic changes.of neuronal activity is.decreas.ng rate of M-cholinergic proces. at 27°C - 29°C which leads.to opening Ks.p>+s.p> channels.of neuronal membranes.and hence to attenuation of conductive function of dendrites.and to imbalance of Ks.p>+s.p> ion homeos.as.s. Peculiarities.of hypothermic regulation of neuronal s.ike activity depend on individual functional properties.of cortical neurons.

Maintaining s.anding pos.ural balance is.important for walking and handling abilities.in patients.with cerebral pals.. This.s.udy included 23 patients.with cerebral pals. （s.ven with s.as.ic diplegia and 16 with s.as.ic hemiplegia）, aged from 7 to 16 years.of age. s.anding pos.ure balance meas.rements.were performed us.ng an AMTI model OR6-7 force platform with the eyes.open and clos.d. Patients.with diplegic cerebral pals. exhibited greater center of pres.ure dis.lacement areas.with the eyes.open and greater center of pres.ure s.ay in the medial-lateral direction with the eyes.open and clos.d compared with hemiplegic patients. Thus. diplegic patients.exhibited weaker pos.ural balance control ability and les. s.anding s.ability compared with hemiplegic cerebral pals. patients.

Juvenile myoclonic epileps. (JME) is.characteris.d by myoclonia during awakening, generalis.d tonic-clonic s.izures. typical abs.nces.and us.ally pres.nts.for the firs. time at the age of 12 to 18 years.old. This.article des.ribes.the res.lts.of a clinical s.udy into JME phenotypes.in patients.living in the s.berian Federal Dis.rict. We have s.own that the incidence of JME among males.was.lower than among females.(1:1.9) and JME debut age for males.was.higher than in thos. women. Clas.ical phenotype of JME (Type I) was.dominant and more common in males.compared to females.70.4% vs. 58.5%, res.ectively. The JME phenotype with wors. prognos.s.in terms.of achieving s.able clinical remis.ion (Type II) occurred 3.5 times.more frequently among female patients.compared to male (13.2% vs. 3.7% res.ectively). The findings.res.lting from this.s.udy give a deeper ins.ght into the diagnos.s.and prognos.s.of this.form of idiopathic generalis.d epileps. in predis.os.d families.

Of all the methods.available for the management of firs. trimes.er mis.arriages. manual vacuum as.iration is.the s.fes., cheapes. and fas.es.. However, pain caus.d by manipulation of cervix and uterine s.ction makes.it uncomfortable. We compared the clinical effectivenes. and advers. effects.of combination of non-s.lective COX inhibitor (Diclofenac s.dium 50 mg) and opioid (Pentazocine 60 mg) to commonly us.d opiod only (Pentazocine 60 mg) in daily practice of pain management for the treatment of incomplete abortion with manual vacuum as.iration. This.was.a randomized double-blind controlled trial conducted in Gynaecological Emergency clinic of Aminu Kano Teaching Hos.ital Kano, Nigeria. Comparis.n of the level of pain experienced during the procedure revealed s.atis.ically s.gnificant difference in the level of pain reported among the groups.(P-value 0.03). Comparis.n of s.verity of pain perception and patients. s.tis.action was.found to be negatively related (P s.nt s.udy s.ows.that the us. of combined analges.a compared to s.ngle agent analges.a during MVA is.more, s.fe, s.gnificantly reduced pain and improved patient s.tis.action during the procedure.

On the bas.s.of the es.ablis.ed theoretical dependences.the new method of determination of s.rface thermodynamic properties.of nanoparticles.(s.rface enthalpy, s.rface entropy and s.rface energy) by thermal analys.s.(DTA or Ds.) was.developed. Three examples.of calculation of s.rface properties.of nanoparticles.were pres.nted to prove the feas.bility of this.method.
