Surface measurements of aerosol physical properties were made at Anantapur （14.62°N, 77.65°E, 331 m a.s.l）, a semiarid rural site in India, during August 2008-July 2009. Measurements included the segregated sizes of aerosolsas as well as total mass concentration and size distributions of aerosols measured at low relative humidity （RH〈75%） using a Quartz Crystal Microbalance （QCM） in the 25-0.05 um aerodynamic diameter range. The hourly average total surface aerosol mass concentration in a day varied from 15 to 70 ug m-3, with a mean value of 34.02±9.05 ug m-3 for the entire study period. A clear diurnal pattern appeared in coarse, accumulation and nucleation-mode particle concentrations, with two local maxima occurring in early morning and late evening hours. The concentration of coarse-mode particles was high during the summer season, with a maximum concentration of 11.81±0.98 ug m-3 in the month of April, whereas accumulationmode concentration was observed to be high in the winter period contributed 〉68% to the total aerosol mass concentration. Accumulation aerosol mass fraction, Af （= Ma/Mt） was highest during winter （mean value of Af -0.80） and lowest （Af - 0.64） during the monsoon season. The regression analysis shows that both Reff and Rm are dependent on coarse-mode aerosols. The relationship between the simultaneous measurements of daily mean aerosol optical depth at 500 nm （AOD500） and PM2.5 mass concentration （[PM2.5]） shows that surface-level aerosol mass concentration increases with the increase in columnar aerosol optical depth over the observation period.

MJO Modulation of Station Rainfall in the Semiarid Serido,Northeast Brazil

The influence of the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) on station rainfall over the Seridó region of Rio Grande do Norte state, Northeast Brazil is examined based on 17 raingauge daily data over 30-year period (1 January-31 December, 1981-2010). The Seridó is one of the driest regions in Northeast Brazil and is recognized as particularly vulnerable to desertification by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. Firstly, daily anomalies were calculated by removing the 30-year daily climatology. Then, to distinguish the MJO signal from other patterns of climate variability, the daily anomalies were band pass filtered in the frequency domain (20 - 90 days) by applying Fast Fourier Transform (FFT). Composites of rainfall anomalies were computed for each of the eight phases of the MJO during February-May (FMAM) rainy season, based on the Jones-Carvalho MJO index. Only days classified as MJO events were considered in the composites. For each phase composite, statistical significance tests were computed independently at each individual station by applying a two-tailed Student’s t-test at 5% significance level. Preliminary results showed that the rainfall anomalies have a spatial coherence throughout the MJO cycle. Extreme positive (negative) anomalies occurred in phase 2 (phase 5), where 13 (12) out of the 17 stations showed statistically significant anomalies in the range of 0.9 - 1.9 mm/day (0.8 - 1.7 mm/day). The typical difference between the wet MJO phase 2 and dry phase 5 represented at least 50% modulation of the daily mean rainfall.

Treatment of Materials Contaminated with Polychlorinated Biphenyls(Pcbs):Comparison of Traditional Method and Supercritical Fluid Extraction

The objective of this study was to develop an experimental methodology for the extraction of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from contaminated soil and wood material using the Soxhlet extraction method and supercritical fluid technology. The sample PCB contents were quantified using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). Conventional extractions of PCBs from soil samples showed higher extraction yields for samples with the highest initial PCB levels and longest extraction times. Specific PCBs yielded 74.0% - 78.3% removal using ethanol as the solvent. 91.0% - 94.3% removal of the total PCB content was achieved using hexane as the solvent. Supercritical fluid extraction of soil samples resulted in 50.0% - 70.5% removal for specific PCBs and 57.3% removal of the total PCB content. For wood, the use of Soxhlet extraction resulted in 87.0% - 94.0% removal for specific PCBs and 95.0% - 96.3% removal of the total PCB content. Supercritical fluid extraction of wood samples resulted in 91.1% - 95.0% removal of specific PCBs and 95.1 % of the total PCB content.

Isolated free intra-abdominal fluid on CT in blunt trauma： The continued diagnostic dilemma

Purpose： The clinical significance of isolated flee fluid （FF） without solid organ injury on computed to- mography （CT） continues to pose significant dilemma in the management of patients with blunt abdominal trauma （BAT）. Methods： We reviewed the incidence of FF and the clinical outcome amongst patients with blunt abdominal trauma in a metropolitan trauma service in South Africa. We performed a retrospective study of 121 consecutive CT scans over a period of 12 months to determine the incidence of isolated FF and the clinical outcome of patients managed in a large metropolitan trauma service, Results： Of the 121 CTs, FF was identified in 36 patients （30%）. Seven patients （6%） had isolated FF. Of the 29 patients who had free fluid and associated organ injuries, 33 organ injuries were identified. 86% （25/ 29） of all 29 patients had a single organ injury and 14% had multiple organ injuries. There were 26 solid organ injuries and 7 hollow organ injuries. The 33 organs injured were： spleen, 12; liver, 8; kidney, 5; pancreas, 2; small bowel, 4; duodenum, 1. Six （21%） patients required operative management for small bowel perforations in 4 cases and pancreatic tail injury in 2 cases. All 7 patients with isolated FF were initially observed, and 3 （43%） were eventually subjected to operative intervention. They were found to have an intra-peritoneal bladder rupture in 1 case, a non-expanding zone 3 haematoma in I case, and a negative laparotomy in 1 case. Four （5？%） patients were successfully managed without surgical interventions. Conclusions： Isolated FF is uncommon and the clinical significance remains unclear. Provided that reli- able serial physical examination can be performed by experienced surgeons, an initial non-operative approach should be considered.

Features and Patterns of Primipara Delivery in a Cameroon Semi-Rural Area: The Case of Ayos Locality

Introduction: The delivery of a primipara, a woman giving birth for the first time, is challenging and may lead to complications and influence the obstetrical future of a woman. Materials and Methods: We carried out a cross-sectional and analytical study at the maternity of the regional hospital annex of Ayos, a semi-rural locality in Cameroon, for the period between January 2012 and December 2020. The objective was to determine the frequency and the determinants of primipara delivery. Results: We recruited 440 cases. The frequency of primipara delivery was 31.8%. The ages of the participants ranged from 12 to 35 years with a mean age of 18.01 ± 3.52 years. Single women contributed to 95.5% of cases while 97.5% were unemployed. The delivery occurred at term in 90.2% and 98.4% of pregnancies were singleton. The delivery was vaginal in 91.6%, while caesarean delivery was done in 8.4% (8% emergency and 0.4% elective). The most frequent maternal complications were genital tract tears (15.7%), post-partum hemorrhage (12.5%) and endometritis (2.7%). The birth weight of newborns ranged from 1070 to 4500 g with a mean of 3024.5 ± 511.4 g. The single marital status, a gestational age between 37 and 42 weeks and a birth weight between 1500 g and 2499 g were significantly associated with vaginal delivery. Conclusion: The frequency of primiparous delivery was relatively high (31.8%) in the Ayos semi-rural health district of Cameroon. Major complications associated with delivery included genital tract tears, post-partum hemorrhage, cesarean section and neo-natal infection.

Cerebrovascular disease occurs in HIv-positive individuals, but no relationship between the two has been established. The authors reviewed a cohort of patients aged 15 to 44 years to evaluate stroke in HIv-positive and negative subjects. Patients who were HIv-positive with no other identifiable etiology were compared to age-and race-matched HIv-negative patients. HIv-positive and HIv-negative groups did not differ in angiographic, cardiac, or serologic tests. A positive HIv test does not provide causal information or diagnosis.

Enhancing Smart Grid with Session-Oriented Communication System to Truly Support Reliability and Robustness

Environmental sustainability issues and the costs of new power generation and transmission have increased the interest in evolving current power grid to new technologies. The Smart Grid is a promising technology, since it allows a distributed computing approach with potentials for self-diagnosing/-healing, reliable multi-user communication and fast hard real-time control. However, the missing standardization associated with heterogeneity of legacy systems and wide-area service demands, makes very challenging to adopt Smart Grid in a cost-effective way. By considering this, we propose the Session-Oriented Communication System (SOCSys) to overcome the above issues by enhancing Smart Grid with truly reliable and robust capabilities over heterogeneous environments. SOCSys achieves this goal by orchestrating session-control with innovative network-centric facilities operating over a wireless mesh Information Network compliant with IEEE 802.11e/s standard. The simulation results show that SOCSys improved network performance in terms of bandwidth utilization and minimization of delay, while consuming low network resources. Graphical analyses showed that SOCSys supported multimedia sessions with excellent quality, where it outperforms the experiments with regular settings.

背景:全球均有对广泛耐药结核病的文献报道,但对儿童广泛耐药结核病的文献报道非常罕见。目的:报告南非农村地区广泛耐药结核病患儿的特征。设计:在南非共和国图盖拉渡口地区,对2006年1月—2007年12月间登记的经痰培养确诊为广泛耐药结核病的患儿进行了回顾性评估。从患儿病案中获得其人口统计学、临床和微生物学信息。结果:4例6～8岁的儿童为广泛耐药结核病患者。其中2例患儿先前有结核病史。4例患儿均为感染了人类免疫缺陷病毒的孤儿,其中3例在诊断患有广泛耐药结核病之前已接受了高效抗逆转录病毒治疗。在接受标准化抗广泛耐药结核病和高效抗逆转录病毒治疗后,所有患儿的临床表现、影像学均改善,痰培养阴转。其中2例患儿较好地耐受了抗广泛耐药结核病和高效抗逆转录病毒同时治疗。另外2例出现了环丝氨酸相关的神经精神系统不良反应。4例患儿的存活时间均超过24个月,广泛耐药结核病均得到治愈。在诊断为广泛耐药结核病之前,这些患儿在儿科病房的平均住院时间为8个月(5～17个月),包括3个月的住院重叠期。结论:广泛耐药结核病依靠微生物学来确诊,合并艾滋病的广泛耐药结核病患者也能被成功诊断。尽管需要对同时接受两种治疗的潜在交叉毒性开展更多的研究,但本研究显示患儿同时接受抗广泛耐药结核病和高效抗逆转录病毒治疗是可行且有效的。

In this paper,we report a real-time Fast Radio Burst(FRB)searching system that has been successfully implemented with the 19 beam receiver of the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope(FAST).The relatively small field of view of FAST makes the search for new FRBs challenging,but its high sensitivity significantly improves the accuracy of FRB localization and enables the detection of high-precision neutral hydrogen absorption lines generated by *** goal is to develop an FRB searching system capable of realtime detection of FRBs that allows high-time resolution spectro-temporal studies among the repeated bursts,as well as detailed investigations of these bursts and exploration of FRB progenitor *** data from each beam of the 19-beam receiver are fed into a high-performance computing node server,which performs real-time searches for pulses with a wide dispersion measure(DM)range of 20–10,000 pc cm^(-3) with step efficiency of 25%in real ***,the head node server aggregates all the candidate signals from each beam within a given time,determining their authenticity based on various criteria,including arrival time,pulse width,signal-to-noise ratio and coincidence patterns among the 19 *** the 1.05–1.45 GHz operating bandwidth of the FAST 19beam receiver,the system achieves a frequency resolution of 122.07 kHz and a time resolution of 270.336μ***,our team detected a series of bursts with a DM of 566 on 2019 August 30 confirming them as *** FRB searching system enables the 19-beam receiver of FAST to detect repeated/one-off pulses/bursts in real time.

The objectives of the current study were to evaluate the estrous response and pregnancy rate following timed artificial insemination (TAI) with frozen-thawed semen in cows. The study was carried out in cows at different villages of KwaZulu-natal (KZN;n = 160) and Limpopo provinces (L;n = 171). Cows were selected randomly as presented by the farmers, regardless of parity, age, breed and body weight following pregnancy diagnosis. The cows were grouped according to breed type and body condition score (BCS) on a scale of 1-5. Selected cows were inserted a controlled intravaginal drug release (CIDR®) and removed on day 8, followed by administration of prostaglandin. Heat was observed on day 9 with the aid of heat mount detectors (HMD) that were placed on the individual cow’s tail head. Cows on heat were then inseminated twice at 12 hours interval. Pregnancy diagnosis was performed by an ultrasound scanner and rectal palpation 90 days after TAI. Data were analyzed using SAS 2006. Estrous responses were 100% in KZN and 99% in Limpopo. The lowest pregnancy rate was recorded in Brahman and Bonsmara type cows with BCS ≤ 2.5 regardless of province. Interestingly, Nguni type cows with BCS ≤ 2.5 had higher average pregnancy rate of 59.5% in Limpopo and 53.5% in KZN. However, cows with BCS ≥ 3 had better pregnancy rate regardless of breed type and province. In conclusion, village cows can be synchronized successfully and inseminated with frozen-thawed semen. However, pregnancy rates are low in cows with lower body condition. village Nguni type cows were not affected by body condition scoring as they had higher and similar pregnancy rate as those that had body condition of ≥3.
