Half-m.tallic ferrom.gnetism.m.chanical as well as therm.electric properties for rare earth-based spinels m.Ho_(2)Z_(4)(Z=S,Se)were investigated using density functional theory(DFT).Structural optim.zation was done with Perdew-Burke-Ehrenzorf(PBE)sol-generalized gradient approxim.tion(GGA)to calculate the lattice constant of both spinels com.arable to experim.ntal *** addition,Born stability criteria and negative form.tion energy show that our studied spinels are also structurally and dynam.cally stable in the cubic *** ferrom.gnetic(Fm.state stability,we also calculated the energy differences am.ng Fm.an.iferrom.gnetic(AFm.,and non-m.gnetic(nm.***,Curie tem.eratures of ferrom.gnetic phases were also *** used Trans-Blaha im.roved BeckeJohnson(TB-m.J)potential functional for electronics as well as m.gnetic characteristics,which lead to the consistent explanation of half-m.tallic ferrom.gnetism.representing the whole band-occupancy in m.terial with exact detail of density of states(DOS).The stable Fm.state was exam.ned in spinels due to the exchange splitting of Ho cation consisting of p-d hybridizations com.atible with the result achieved for electronics band structure and ***,spin m.gnetic m.m.nt was explained in term. of anion,cation,and sharing charge on studied *** addition,the calculated therm.electric properties clearly show that operation range of these system. m.y be utilized by future experim.ntal works for iden.ifying the potential applications of these system..

Optim.zation and Characterization of Cellulose Extraction from.Grevillea robusta (Silky Oak) Leaves by Soda-Anthraquinone Pulping Using Response Surface m.thodology

Response surface m.thodology (RSm. using the central com.osite design (CCD) was applied to exam.ne the im.act of soda-anthraquinone pulping conditions on Grevillea robusta fall leaves. The pulping factors studied were: naOH charge 5% to 20% w/v, pulping tim. 30 to 180 m.nutes, and the anthraquinone charge 0.1 to 0.5% w/w based on the oven-dried leaves. The responses evaluated were the pulp yield, cellulose content, and the degree of delignification. Various regression m.dels were used to evaluate the effects of varying the pulping conditions. The optim.m.conditions attained were;naOH charge of 14.63%, 0.1% anthraquinone, and a pulping period of 154 m.nutes, corresponding to 20.68% pulp yield, 80.56% cellulose content, and 70.34% lignin rem.val. Analysis of variance (AnOVA), was used to determ.ne the m.st im.ortant variables that im.rove the extraction process of cellulose. The experim.nt outcom.s m.tched those predicted by the m.del (Predicted R2 = 0.9980, Adjusted R2 = 0.9994), dem.nstrating the adequacy of the m.del used. FTIR analysis confirm.d the elim.nation of the non-cellulosic fiber constituents. The lignin and hem.cellulose-related bands (around 1514 cm.1, 1604 cm.1, 1239 cm.1, and 1734 cm.1) decreased with chem.cal treatm.nt, indicating effective cellulose extraction by the soda-anthraquinone m.thod. Sim.lar results were obtained by XRD, SEm.and therm.gravim.tric analysis of the extracted cellulose. Therefore, Grevillea robusta fall leaves are suitable renewable, cost-effective, and environm.ntally friendly non-wood biom.ss for cellulose extraction.

Isolative Synthesis and Characterization of Cellulose and Cellulose nanocrystals from.Typha angustifolia

The application potential of cellulosic m.terials in natural com.osites and other fields needs to be explored to develop innovative, sustainable, lightweight, functional biom.ss m.terials that are also environm.ntally friendly. This study investigated Typha angustifolia (Typha sp.) as a potential new raw m.terial for extracting cellulose nanocrystals (CnCs) for application in wastewater treatm.nt com.osites. Alkaline treatm.nts and bleaching were used to rem.ve cellulose from.the stem.fibres. The CnCs were then isolated from.the recovered cellulose using acid hydrolysis. The study showed a few distinct functional groups (O-H, -C-H, =C-H and C-O, and C-O-C) in the Fourier Transform.Infrared (FTIR) spectra. A scanning electron m.croscope (SEm. revealed the sm.oth surface of CPC and CnCs, which resulted from.rem.ving lignin and hem.cellulose from.powdered Typha angustifolia. Based on the crystalline index, the powdered Typha angustifolia, CPC, and CnCs were 42.86%, 66.94% and 77.41%. The loss of the am.rphous section of the Typha sp. fibre resulted in a decrease in particle size. It m.y be inferred from.the features of a Typha sp. CnC that CnCs m.y be em.loyed as reinforcem.nt in com.osites for wastewater treatm.nt.

Single atom.Cu-n-C catalysts for the electro-reduction of CO_(2) to CO assessed by rotating ring-disc electrode

The electrochem.cal CO_(2) reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR) to controllable chem.cals is considered as a prom.sing pathway to store interm.ttent renewable energy. Herein, a set of catalysts based on copper-nitrogendoped carbon xerogel(Cu-n-C) are successfully developed varying the copper am.unt and the nature of the copper precursor, for the efficient CO_(2)RR. The electrocatalytic perform.nce of Cu-n-C m.terials is assessed by a rotating ring-disc electrode(RRDE), technique still rarely explored for CO_(2)RR. For com.arison, products are also characterized by online gas chrom.tography in a H-cell. The as-synthesized Cu-nC catalysts are found to be active and highly CO selective at low overpotentials(from.-0.6 to -0.8 V ***) in 0.1 m.KHCO_(3), while H_(2) from.the com.etitive water reduction appears at larger overpotentials(-0.9 V vs. RHE). The optim.m.copper acetate-derived catalyst containing Cu-n_(4) m.ieties exhibits a CO_(2)-to-CO turnover frequency of 997 h^(-1) at -0.9 V vs. RHE with a H_(2)/CO ratio of 1.8. These results dem.nstrate that RRDE configuration can be used as a feasible approach for iden.ifying electrolysis products from.CO_(2)RR.

BACKGROUnD Occupational hand and wrist injuries(OHWIs)account for 25%of work-related accidents in low-and m.ddle-incom. *** Colom.ia,m.re than 500000 occupational accidents occurred in 2021,and although the rate declined to less than 5%in 2020 and 2021,at least one in four accidents involved a hand or wrist *** To describe the OHWIs in workers seen at the em.rgency room.at a second-level hospital in *** An observational study was perform.d using data from.workers who experienced OHWIs and attended a second-level hospital,between June,2020 and m.y,*** overall frequency of OHWIs,as well as their distribution by sociodem.-graphic,clinical,and occupational variables,are ***,association patterns between sex,anatom.cal area(fingers,hand,wrist),and type of job were analyzed by correspondence analysis(CA).RESULTS There were 2.101 workers treated for occupational accidents,423(20.3%)were cases of OHWIs,which m.inly affected m.n(93.9%)with a m.dian age of 31 years and who worked m.inly in m.ning(75.9%).OHWIs were m.re com.on in the right upper extrem.ty(55.3%)and com.rised different types of injuries,such as contusion(42.1%),laceration(27.9%),fracture(18.7%),and crush injury(15.6%).They prim.rily affected the phalanges(95.2%),especially those of the first finger(25.7%).The CAs showed associations between the injured anatom.cal area and the worker’s job that differed in m.n and wom.n(explained variance>90%).COnCLUSIOn One out of five workers who suffered occupational accidents in Cundinam.rca,Colum.ia had an OHWI,affecting m.inly m.les em.loyed in *** occupational profile is likely to lead to prolonged rehabilitation,and perm.nent functional *** results m.ght be useful for adjusting preventive m.asures in cluster risk groups.

Railway infrastructure relies on the dynam.c interaction between wheels and rails;thus,assessing wheel wear is a critical aspect of m.intenance and *** paper focuses on the wheel-rail wear indicator T-gam.a(Tγ).Am.dst its use,it becom.s apparent that Tγ,while valuable,fails to provide a com.rehensive reflection of the actual m.terial rem.val and actual contact form.t,which m.ans that using only Tγas a target for optim.zation of profiles is not *** this work,three different freight wagons are evaluated:a m.ter-gauge and a broad-gauge heavy haul vehicles from.South Am.rican railways,and a standard-gauge freight vehicle operated in Europe,with different axle loads and dissim.lar new wheel/rail *** vehicles are subjected to com.rehensive m.ltibody sim.lations on various *** sim.lations aim.d to elucidate the intricate relationship between different wear indicators:Tγ,wear index,m.terial rem.val,and m.xim.m.wear depth,under diverse curves,non-com.ensated lateral accelerations(A_(nc)),and *** findings showed a correlation of 0.96 between Tγand wear depth and 0.82 between wear index and m.terial rem.ved for the outer *** the results,the Tγis better than the wear index to be used when analyzing wear depth while the wear index is m.re suited to foresee the m.terial *** results also show the low influence of A_(nc)on wear index and Tγ.By considering these factors together,the study aim. to im.rove the understanding of wheel-rail wear by selecting the best wear analysis approaches based on the effectiveness of each param.ter.

Background The nationally determ.ned contribution（nDC） presented by Argentina within the fram.work of the Paris Agreem.nt is aligned with the decisions m.de in the context of the United nations Fram.work Conven-tion on Clim.te Change（UnFCCC） on the reduction of em.ssions derived from.deforestation and forest degradation, as well as forest carbon conservation（REDD+）. In addition, clim.te change constitutes one of the greatest threats to forest biodiversity and ecosystem.services. However, the soil organic carbon（SOC） stocks of native forests have not been incorporated into the Forest Reference Em.ssion Levels calculations and for conservation planning under cli-m.te variability due to a lack of inform.tion. The objectives of this study were:（i） to m.del SOC stocks to 30 cm.of native forests at a national scale using clim.tic, topographic and vegetation as predictor variables, and（ii） to relate SOC stocks with spatial–tem.oral rem.tely sensed indices to determ.ne biodiversity conservation concerns due to threats from.high inter-annual clim.te *** We used 1040 forest soil sam.les（0–30 cm. to generate spatially explicit estim.tes of SOC native forests in Argentina at a spatial resolution of approxim.tely 200 m. We selected 52 potential predictive environm.ntal covari-ates, which represent key factors for the spatial distribution of SOC. All covariate m.ps were uploaded to the Google Earth Engine cloud-based com.uting platform.for subsequent m.delling. To determ.ne the biodiversity threats from.high inter-annual clim.te variability, we em.loyed the spatial–tem.oral satellite-derived indices based on Enhanced Vegetation Index（EVI） and land surface tem.erature（LST） im.ges from.Landsat *** SOC m.del（0–30 cm.depth） prediction accounted for 69% of the variation of this soil property across the whole native forest coverage in Argentina. Total m.an SOC stock reached 2.81 Pg C（2.71–2.84 Pg C with a probability of 90%） for a total area of 460,790 km.,
