On 26 th October 2015, an Mw 7.5 earthquake struck northern Pakistan, with its epicenter located 45 km southwest of Jarm in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The earthquake resulted from reverse faulting at a depth of 210 km, resulting in 280 fatalities and substantial damage to some 109,123 buildings. Regional seismicity, characteristics of recorded strong motions, damage statistics, and building performance observations are presented. Earthquake damage was mostly constrained to seismic-deficient unreinforced masonry(URM) buildings. Typical failure modes included toppled minarets, partial or complete out of plane collapse of URM walls, diagonal shear cracking in piers, flexural cracking in spandrels, corner damage, pounding damage, and damage due to ground settlement. The majority of human loss resulted due to failure of URM walls and subsequent roof collapse. URM buildings located in rural hilly areas closer to the epicenter suffered more intense and frequent damage than urban URM buildings located farther away in larger cities.

Selection of materials,as an area of design research,has been under considerable interest over the *** selection is one of the most important activities in the product development *** decision of materials can cause the product to be reproduced or *** avoid this circumstance,one of the useful tools that can be employed in determining the most appropriate material is analytical hierarchy process(AHP).To illustrate the application of AHP,six different types of composite materials were *** most appropriate one for suitability of use in manufacturing automotive bumper beam was determined by considering eight main selection factors and 12 *** AHP analysis reveals that the glass fibre epoxy is the most appropriate material because it has the highest value(25.7%,mass fraction) compared with other *** final material is obtained by performing six different scenarios of the sensitivity *** is proved that glass fibre epoxy is the most optimum decision.

Cosmic rays(CR)play an important role in space weather-related *** temporal variability,both of a quasi-periodic character as well as an irregular one,has been studied from ground-based direct measurements,as well as from cosmogenic nuclides,over a long *** attempt to describe the current knowledge of selected quasi-periodicities in CR flux in the energy range above the atmospheric threshold,from direct *** power spectrum density(PSD)of the CR time series as measured by neutron monitors(nMs)and by muon detectors has a rather complicated *** with the shape(slope)of the PSD,knowledge of the contribution of quasi-periodic variations(q-per)to the CR signal is of importance for the modulation,as well as for checking the links of CR to space weather,and/or to space climate *** rotation of the Earth and solar rotation cause two types of mechanisms behind the certain q-per observed in secondary CR on the Earth’s *** activity and solar magnetic field cyclicities contribute to the q-per signals in CR if studied over a longer *** complexity of the spatial structure of the interplanetary magnetic field(iMF)and its evolution within the heliosphere,in addition to the changes in the geomagnetic field,cause variability in contributions of the q-per in *** spectra are useful tools for checking the fine structure of q-per and their temporal *** a long time nMs and muon telescopes provide information about q-per in CR.

A mathematical model is presented for forced convective slip flow of a nanofluid past a radiating stretching/shrinking *** boundary condition is taken into *** nanofluid model involves the Brownian motion and thermophoresis *** group transformation is used to the transport equations as well as the boundary conditions to develop the similarity equations,before being solved numerically using the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg fourth-fifth order numerical *** show the effects of the controlling parameters on the dimensionless velocity,temperature,nanoparticle volume fraction,skin friction factor,local nusselt,and local Sherwood numbers,numerical results are presented both in graphical and tabular *** is found that the friction factor decreases with slip and melting parameters for both stretching/shrinking *** is also found that the nusselt number decreases with the first order slip while it increases with melting and radiation parameters in both ***,the Sherwood number decreases with the melting parameter both for radiating and non-radiating stretching/shrinking *** excellent agreement is found between the present numerical results and published results.

Thermostat as a part of engine cooling system has a significant role in the shortening warm-up time and regulating the engine in proper temperature to approach optimal ***,there is not adequate research on this part of the cooling system and its *** this gap and also being used in large scale,this study is intended to evaluate performance and reflex of the wax type thermostat in different engine working *** this regard,performance of engine cooling system was investigated in various engine speeds and loads to reveal positive and negative influences of thermostat on engine cooling efficiency and engine *** to observed results,warm-up period and fuel consumption decrease by using a *** the other hand,however,the temperature oscillation of coolant fluid passing through engine increases sharply,which causes a disruption in the regulating engine temperature and also a possibility of the fluid boiling rises in some regions of the engine that increases the risk of damage in the engine *** temperature,fuel consumption,warm-up duration and emissions were provided and compared in two operation modes,with and without thermostat.

There has been increasing interest, both exper- imentally and theoretically, in the investigation of low-dimensional semiconductor heterostructures due to their intrinsic physical properties and technological applications in electronic and optoelectronic devices. The studies on quantum heterostructures have opened a new field in fundamental physics, and also offer a wide range of potential applications for optoelectronic devices. By varying the profile of a semiconductor quantum well （QW）, both the subband state energies and their wave functions change, and so do various physical properties depending on them.

The catalytic effect of K2SiF6 on MgH2 was first timely *** MgH2+5 wt.%K2SiF6 was prepared via the ball milling *** catalyst had lessened the initial decomposition temperature by 134℃ and 48℃ as compared to both pristine and milled MgH2 samples,*** 2 minutes,4.5 wt.%of hydrogen was absorbed(250℃)by the doped composite,which was 0.8 wt.%higher than the milled ***,for the desorption kinetics(320℃,1 atm),the amount of desorbed hydrogen was increased by 2.4 wt.%and 2.3 wt.%for the first 10 and 20 ***,contracting volume and Johnson-Mehl-Avrami models were used to analyse the kinetics *** decomposition activation energy calculated based on Kissinger equation was 114 kJ/*** for the active species,Mg2Si,MgF2 and KH were formed during the heating *** active species are speculated to be responsible for the improvement of the hydrogenation properties of the composite.

Electronic Properties of p-Type δ-Doped GaAs Structure under Electric Field

We theoretically investigate the electronic properties of p-type δ-doped GaAs inserted into a quantum well under the electric field, at T = 0 K. We will investigate the influence of the electric field on the δ-doping concentration for a uniform distribution. The depth of confining potential, the density profile, the Fermi level, the subband energies and the subband populations calculate by solving the Schrodinger and Poisson equations self consistently. it is found that the changes of the electronic properties are quite sensitive to the applied electric field and the doping concentration. As different from single n-type δ-doped structure, we see a replace between the ground light-hole （lh1 ） subband and the first excited heavy-hole （hh2） subband whenever the external electric field reaches a critical value. We find the abrupt changing of the subband energies and the subband populations whenever the applied electric field reaches a certain value. Also, it is found that the heavy-hole subbands contain many more energy states than the light-hole ones, the population of the heavy-hole levels represent approximately 91% of all the carriers.
