The study focused on one of the important contemporary environmental problems, land deterioration, carried out on a semi-desert ran.eland constrained by aridity, in an area stretching between two small cities （Solouk and A1-Abyar） south of the city of Benghazi in north eastern Libya. The vegetation analysis revealed that the plant life is mainly confined to wadis （valleys）. Average vegetation cover was ranging between 39.53% and 69.20%. Biomass was ranging between 28.33 gm/m2 and 129.42 gm/m2, （average soil depth was between 30 cm and 50 cm）, meanwhile 25% of the area is covered by hummocks. The total number of sampled soil seed bank was 25,870 seed/m2, in which the important forage family Fabaceae constituted 450 seed/m2. Life forms spectrum was： 55.2% Therophytes, 26.3% Chamaeopytes, 11.4% Cryptophytes and 7.1% Phanerophytes. Alpha diversity 1.3%-3.4%, and Beta diversity 11.9%-77.6%. The soil showed low organic matter content an lean to alkalinity. The study showed that the area is characterized by harsh climate elements which led to land degradation in the form of low productivity, retrogressive succession, soil erosion, and sandy encroachment from the south desert area. In the last decades the land degradation was accelerated by the accumulative anthropogenic.

The neutron total cross-sections of thulium （^169Tm） were measured in the neutron energy region from 0.01 eV to 100 eV by using the time-of-flight method at the Pohang neutron Facility, which consists of an.electron linac, a water-cooled tantalum target with a water moderator, and a 12 m time of flight path, Two thulium plates with different thicknesses were used for the neutron transmission measurement. The background level was determined by using a notch-filter of Co, In, and Cd sheets. The present measurement was compared with the previous ones, and a new set of resonance parameters of ^169Tm isotope was obtained from the transmission rate by using the SAmmY code, with a comparison with the recommended parameters by mughabghab.

Some cities worldwide have oil wells directly affecting the management of the *** example,La Libertad and Salinas districts contain 467 oil wells in urban areas representing a major land-use planning *** objective is to apply the CLUE-S land use model in coastal cities with oil wells(Salinas-La Libertad),using geographic information systems considering environmental and security characteristics for territorial *** stages of the study are:i)classification and categorisation of oil wells;ii)application of the GIS-CLUE-S method and visualisation of land use dynamics;iii)use the SWOT-TOWS matrix,for the analysis of the situation and the main factors affecting the *** results indicate high vulnerability in many urban sectors and those close to the ***,the CLUE-S analysis shows that the population growth in the urban sector is close to oil well areas,making it a complex pole of human-industry interaction that impacts the management of the *** study synthesises three technical aspects:some oil wells do not comply with municipal ordinance regulations;identification of vulnerable zones due to environmental and security factors,which recommends a territorial reordering policy;as well as an education plan for the application of territorial ordering policies,with awareness and sustainability projections.

Introduction: In recent years, flow mediated dilatation (FmD) has become a popular technique in cardiovascular medicine. HOmA-IR was accepted to determine the insulin sensitivity as a valuable standard. In this study, we evaluated the association between HOmA-IR (homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance) and vascular endothelial dysfunction, as assessed by endothelium- dependent flow-mediated dilatation (FmD) and nitroglycerin-mediated dilatation (nmD), in type 2 Diabetic (Dm) patients. material and methods: Eighty four (84) consecutive out-patients were enrolled. HOmA-IR was calculated as fasting insulin (μU/ml) multiplied by fasting plasma glucose (FPG) (mg/dl) and divided by 405. The ultrasound method for measuring FmD and nmD has been used. Out of 84 patients, 42 patients were in control group and 42 patients were in diabetic group, which were further subdivided into two groups based on HOmA-IR > 3.0 and above was considered as Group I and HOmA IR nd below was considered as Group II. Fasting Plasma Glucose (mmol/dl) (7.74 ± 2.56, 6.81 ± 1.9, p nd Fasting Insulin (μU/dl) (13.26 ± 8.09, 6.65 ± 2.36, p nificant in Group I. The baseline mean FmD in controls and cases (Group I and Group II) was 15.36 ± 9.56, 4.15 ± 2.29, 12.21 ± 6.24 (p ely. By logistic regression analysis the factors which were effective on FmD percentage change (n Group I were BmI (p ma Insulin (p nd triglycerides (p negative co-relation for FmD, nmD and HOmA-IR. Discussion: We conclude that increased HOmA-IR in hyperglycaemic patients is associated with severe endothelial dysfunction which is the marker of the atherosclerosis. Thus the measurement of endothelial vasomotor function which is a comprehensive analysis of atherosclerotic burden may provide a better predictive value of future cardiovascular events than the analysis of each of the traditional risk factors alone.

The energy-water nexus,or the dependence of energy on water and water on energy,continues to receive attention as impacts on both energy and water supply and demand from growing popula-tions and climate-related stresses are evaluated for future infra-structure *** in water and energy demand are related to changes in regional temperature,and precipitation extremes can affect water resources available for energy genera-tion for those regional ***,the vulnerabilities to the energy and water nexus are beyond the physical infrastruc-tures themselves and extend into supporting and interdependent *** of these vulnerabilities relies on the integration of the disparate and distributed data associated with each of the infrastructures,environments and populations served,and robust analytical methodologies of the data.A capability for the deployment of these methods on relevant data from multiple components on a single platform can provide actionable informa-tion for interested communities,not only for individual energy and water systems,but also for the system of systems that they ***,we survey the highest priority data needs and analy-tical methods for inclusion on such a platform.

Objective:To analyse the phytochemicals,elements and evaluate the antimicrobial activity of Caulerpa scalpelliformis(***)against different bacterial and fungal ***:For the elemental analysis and the screening of phytochemicals,some common and available standard tests were *** antimicrobial activity was done through the agar well diffusion ***:In the qualitative phytochemical screening,among the five different solvent extracts of ***,the benzene extract showed a maximum number of compounds such as tannins,flavanoids,glycosides,phenols,saponins,terpenoids,*** quantitative analysis showed the total protein,total carbohydrate and total lipid content to be(15.86±1.13)%w/w,(10.32±0.94)%w/w,and(1.05±0.08)%w/w *** antibacterial activity showed a maximum zone of inhibition(15±0.18)mm and a minimum zone of inhibition(6±0.05)mm in the benzene extract of *** exhibited against Serratia marcescens and Bacillus *** antifungal assay of *** showed the benzene extract rendered a maximum activity(20±0.25)mm against Aspergillus terreus whereas a minimum activity(12±0.14)mm obtained in the chloroform extract against Aspergillus ***:Our findings provide the evidence that the benzene extract of *** possesses the good antimicrobial activity and hence the algae proves to be an effective therapeutic agent.

Studies on litterfall and decomposition provide estimations of decomposition rates of different *** is key information to understanding ecosystem dynamics and changes in a scenario of global *** objective of this research was to assess litterfall production,the potential deposition of macro and micronutrients through leaf and twig fall as well as macronutrient—use efficiency in three forest ecosystems at different altitudes： a pine forest mixed with deciduous species（S1）; a Quercus ***（S2）; and,a Tamaulipan thornscrub forest（S3）.Total annual litterfall deposition was 594,742 and 533 g m^（-2） for S1,S2 and *** litter was higher （68%） than twigs（18%）,reproductive structures（8%） or miscellaneous material（6%）.micronutrient leaf deposition was higher for Fe followed by mn,Zn and *** leaf deposition was higher for Ca followed by K,mg and *** though P deposition in leaves and twigs was lower than other macronutrients,its nutrient use efficiency was higher than Ca,mg or *** and species composition determine litter and nutrient deposition,with higher values at mid-altitudes（550 m）.Altitude is an important factor to consider when analyzing litter production as well as nutrient deposition as shown in this *** production and nutrient deposition are expected to change in a scenario of global warming.
