Rodents are reservoirs of various types of hantavirus,some of which are agents of hantavirus pulmonary syndrome in *** hantavirus is associated with a single rodent host species but successive spill-over events may eventually lead to host-switching and new species’becoming host of a given *** study aims to gain an understanding of the spatial ecology of two hantavirus-host species,Akodon azarae,and Oligoryzomys flavescens,by identifying factors modulating their home range sizes and stability,and by evaluating intra-and interspecific spatial aggregation for these species and a third one—Oxymycterus rufus—living in *** this,eleven capture-mark-recapture surveys were carried out,spanning 22 *** found that *** males have larger and more mobile home ranges than females,independently of the ***,males could likely have a more relevant role in the transmission of hantavirus because of their greater exposure both to a higher number of contacts between individuals and viral contamination of the ***,*** individuals showed negligible displacements of their home range through time,which could limit the range of hantavirus spread in host *** *** is host to Lechiguanas hantavirus(pathogenic to humans)this result encompasses epidemiological relevance,for it may imply the existence of local foci of ***,individuals of both species performed excursions outside their home *** events could enable hantavirus spread over distances beyond the normal range of movements and lead to new hantavirus outbreaks in formerly non-infected rodent populations,favoring the persistence of the virus in nature.

The present study was conducted to evaluate the impact of bimetallic nanoparticles(nPs)of copper(Cu)and zinc(Zn)from Crotalaria longirostrata on the insect mortality and cell viability of Phenacoccus *** biosynthesis of bimetallic nanoparticles(Cu/Zn-nPs)from *** was confirmed by the presence of a single peak around 378 *** hydrodynamic diameter of the Cu/Zn nanoparticles varied from 59 to 119 nm and their zeta potential was found to be−30.90 *** EDX analysis showed a strong signal for Cu and Zn(8 and 8.6 keV,respectively).The Cu/Zn-nPs showed an effective insecticide activity against *** with 63%of insect mortality after 96 h ***,further studies about nanotoxicity of Cu/Zn-nPs from *** are needed to reveal the exact mechanism of nanoparticles toxicity in insects.

This work was carried out to evaluate the insecticidal effect of mono,bi and trimetallic nanoparticles(nPs)from leaf extract of habanero pepper(Capsicum chinense Jacq.)on the red flour beetle(Tribolium castaneum herbst.)and cotton mealybug(Phenacoccus solenopsis Tinsley).The results showed that Cu nPs,Cu/Mn nPs and Zn/Cu nPs had high insecticidal effect against ***(63%-80% mortality after 96 h).The Cu nPs and Zn/Cu nPs showed also insecticidal effect against ***,but to a lesser extent(20%–28% after 96 h).With regards to the physicochemical characterization,Cu nPs had a zeta potential of 21.1 mV,whereas Cu/Mn nPs and Zn/Cu nPs exhibited zeta potentials of 200 *** polydispersity index(PDI)values for Cu nPs,Cu/Mn nPs,and Zn/Cu nPs were 10.1,29.16,and 14.34,*** TF-IR spectra of the nPs varied from 600 to 4000 cm−*** EDX weight percentages showed the presence of Cu(0.29%–2.4%),Mn(1.4%),and Zn(2.6%)in Cu/Mn nPs and Zn/Cu nPs,respectively.

Treatment with Enterococcus faecalis CECT7121 Is not Effective as Therapy in Mice with an Established Allergy Status

In allergies, an unbalanced immune response towards a T helper (Th) 2 profile with high levels of Immunoglobulin (Ig) E is produced. We have demonstrated that the pre-administration of Enterococcus faecalis CECT7121 prevents the development of allergy in ovalbumin-immunized mice. In this work, we evaluated whether this bacterium can also revert an established allergic status. Mice were immunized with ovalbumin (OVA) and after that, were inoculated with an E. faecalis CECT7121 suspension. In immunized animals, serum specific immune response, proliferative activity of memory splenocytes, and levels of Th2 cytokines were assessed. The in vivo active cutaneous anaphylaxis test was also performed. The treatment with E. faecalis CECT7121 only increased anti-OVA IgG2a levels. no differences were observed in other specific immunological parameters. Probiotic-treatment did not prove to have any desensitizing effect on mice. These results, together with those recently published, can be concluded that this bacterium would not be appropriate for the treatment of allergic symptoms.

目的探讨超声测量膈肌增厚分数联合膈肌位移在预测机械通气患者成功撤机中的价值。方法114例机械通气患者,分为撤机成功组(n=87),撤机失败组(n=27例),使用超声进行膈肌功能评估,比较两组膈肌功能如呼气末膈肌厚度、膈肌增厚分数、膈肌位移的差异并进行影响撤机成功因素的logistic回归及ROC曲线分析潜在指标预测撤机结局的准确性。结果撤机成功组初始膈肌增厚分数、自主呼吸试验时膈肌厚度、膈肌增厚分数及膈肌位移显著高于撤机失败组(P<0.05)。自主呼吸试验时膈肌增厚分数及膈肌位移是撤机失败的独立危险因素。自主呼吸试验时膈肌增厚分数(AUC=0.895,95%CI:0.832~0.957)、膈肌位移(AUC=0.887,95%CI:0.821~0.954)预测撤机成功准确性高于浅快呼吸指数(AUC=0.790,95%CI:0.687~0.892),膈肌增厚分数联合膈肌位移(AUC=0.966,95%CI:0.932~1.000)预测准确性高于单个参数。结论机械通气患者自主呼吸试验时膈肌增厚分数及膈肌位移是撤机失败的独立危险因素,膈肌增厚分数及膈肌位移均为机械通气成功撤机的有效预测指标,两者联合预测准确性高于单个参数。

Valuations of Elemental Concentrations of Particle Matter in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

This study focused on the contents of the air particulate matter pollution in two districts of Ulaanbaatar and determined the chemical composition of air borne samples and the source of those particles. Samples of fine and coarse fractions of PM were collected using a “Gent” stacked filter unit in two fractions of 0 - 2.2 μm and 2.2 - 10 μm sizes in two semi-residential areas from September 2012 to August 2013. This paper points out that fine and coarse concentration varied seasonally with meteorological changes. In sampling site 3, Zuun ail (Figure 1) combustion generators generate the majority of pollution around 50.6% of household waste furnace to create high-temperature combustion of 21.6%. However, this net contributes to soil contamination near the lower value (5%) that arises around the vacuum environment in substantial amounts (14%), where is open around the buildings and residential areas, and the soil is considered to be due to the construction. But the data point to the highway in the distance, where is 9% of contamination of all vehicles’ smoke, and exhaust is similar to the data collected in Ulaanbaatar. According to analysis of samples of nuclear Research Center (nRC) sampling site 2, it shows burning source of Particulate Matter 2.5 pollution in the air is around 25.5% of household waste furnace to create high-temperature product of combustion. But here the very high net contribution to the pollution of soil, is 31.6%. Today’s emerging dust is around 15.2%, showing that motor vehicle pollution causes 19.7%. Since the analysis was done on a sample-by-sample basis, it is possible to estimate the daily contributions of pollution sources and provide useful information based on a limited number of samples in order to address air quality management issues in Ulaanbaatar.

Identification and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of <i>Yersinia enterocolitica</i>Found in Chitterlings, Raw Milk and Swine Fecal Samples

Foodborne illness is an escalating concern upon public health. The prevalence of Yersinia enterocolitica was assessed in chitterlings, raw milk and swine fecal from north Carolina. Uncleaned thirty chitterling samples procured from a local grocery store, forty-five swine fecal samples, and forty unpasteurized cow milk samples supplied by the University farm were evaluated for the presence of Y. enterocolitica. Isolates identified as presumptive positive were characterized as colonies with a pink or deep-red center on MacConkey and CIn agar, and verified further through polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for the presence of 16S rRnA gene for the Yersinia genera. Results showed that 4.4% swine fecal samples, 7.5% milk samples and 11.3% chitterling samples were presumptive positive for Y. enterocolitica by the direct plating method on selective agars. Of the thirty-chitterling samples examined by PCR for the 16S rRnA gene, 26% samples contained the identification gene for the bacteria of interest. After conducting virulence tests, the fecal samples were revealed as non-pathogenic. Only one of the milk samples were considered pathogenic and consisted of the following virulent genes: Yersinia heat-stable toxin (yst), invasion (inv), attachment invasion locus (ail), virulence regulon transcriptional activator (virF), Yersinia adehesin A (yadA), and the O:3 antigen gene (rfbC). Seven out of the eight (87.5%) chitterling samples were shown to be pathogenic. Disc diffusion was conducted to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility of the isolates. Over half (55.5%) of the antimicrobial agents were found effective, with isolates being completely susceptible to ciprofloxacin, kanamycin, trimethoprim, cefotaxime, and gentamycin. Ampicillin was determined to be least effective, where 84.6% of the samples presented resistance to the drug.
