This study em.loys the sm.othed particle hydrodyn.m.cs–fin.te elem.n. m.thod(SPH–FEm. couplin. n.m.rical m.thod to in.estigate the im.act of debris flow.on.rein.orced con.rete(RC)-fram. buildin.s. The m.thodology con.iders the variables of debris flow.depth an. velocity an. in.roduces the in.en.ity in.ex IDV(IDV = DV) to evaluate three differen. levels of debris flow.im.act in.en.ity. The prim.ry focus of this study is to in.estigate the dyn.m.c respon.e an. failure m.chan.sm.of RC-fram. buildin.s un.er debris flow.im.act, in.ludin. structural failure pattern., im.act force an. colum.0}displacem.n.. The results show.that un.er a highin.en.ity im.act, a gradual collapse process of the RCfram. buildin. can.be observed, an. the dam.ge m.de of the fram. colum.0}reflects shear failure or plastic hin.e failure m.chan.sm. First, the lon.itudin.l in.ill w.lls are dam.ged ow.n. to their low.out-of-plan. flexural capacity;the critical failure in.en.ity in.ex IDV value is approxim.tely 7.5 m./s. The structure can.ot w.thstan. debris flow. w.th an.in.en.ity in.ex IDV greater than.16 m./s, an. it is recom.en.ed that the peak im.act force should n.t exceed 2100 k n. The im.act dam.ge ability of debris flow.on.buildin.s m.stly origin.tes from.the im.act force of the fron.al debris flow. w.th the im.act force of the debris flow.body bein. approxim.tely 42% low.r than.that of the debris flow.head. Fin.lly, a five-level classification.system.for evaluatin. the dam.ge status of buildin.s is proposed based on.the n.m.rical sim.lation.an. in.estigation.results of the disaster site.

Respon.e surface m.thodology (RSm. usin. the cen.ral com.osite design.(CCD) w.s applied to exam.n. the im.act of soda-an.hraquin.n. pulpin. con.ition. on.Grevillea robusta fall leaves. The pulpin. factors studied w.re: n.OH charge 5% to 20% w.v, pulpin. tim. 30 to 180 m.n.tes, an. the an.hraquin.n. charge 0.1 to 0.5% w.w.based on.the oven.dried leaves. The respon.es evaluated w.re the pulp yield, cellulose con.en., an. the degree of delign.fication. Various regression.m.dels w.re used to evaluate the effects of varyin. the pulpin. con.ition.. The optim.m.con.ition. attain.d w.re;n.OH charge of 14.63%, 0.1% an.hraquin.n., an. a pulpin. period of 154 m.n.tes, correspon.in. to 20.68% pulp yield, 80.56% cellulose con.en., an. 70.34% lign.n.rem.val. An.lysis of varian.e (An.VA), w.s used to determ.n. the m.st im.ortan. variables that im.rove the extraction.process of cellulose. The experim.n. outcom.s m.tched those predicted by the m.del (Predicted R2 = 0.9980, Adjusted R2 = 0.9994), dem.n.tratin. the adequacy of the m.del used. FTIR an.lysis con.irm.d the elim.n.tion.of the n.n.cellulosic fiber con.tituen.s. The lign.n.an. hem.cellulose-related ban.s (aroun. 1514 cm.1, 1604 cm.1, 1239 cm.1, an. 1734 cm.1) decreased w.th chem.cal treatm.n., in.icatin. effective cellulose extraction.by the soda-an.hraquin.n. m.thod. Sim.lar results w.re obtain.d by XRD, SEm.an. therm.gravim.tric an.lysis of the extracted cellulose. Therefore, Grevillea robusta fall leaves are suitable ren.w.ble, cost-effective, an. en.iron.en.ally frien.ly n.n.w.od biom.ss for cellulose extraction.

The Cap Pushin. Respon.e (CPR) is a free-flyin. techn.que used to study learn.n. an. m.m.ry in.hon.y bees (Apis m.llifera). The series of experim.n.s outlin.d in.this paper aim.d to test w.ether hon.y bees exhibit the cogn.tive con.ept of “expectan.y” utilizin. the CPR in.a w.ight differen.iation.paradigm. Five previous experim.n.s in.our laboratory have explored w.ether the con.ept of expectan.y can.accoun. for hon.y bee perform.n.e an. have all failed to support the cogn.tive in.erpretation. The first experim.n. exam.n.d if bees could differen.iate betw.en.the tw. caps in.the am.un. of force they used to push the cap an. the distan.e the cap w.s pushed w.en.the caps w.re presen.ed on. at a tim.. The secon. experim.n. explored cap w.ight preferen.e by presen.in. bees w.th a choice betw.en.the tw. caps. The third an. fourth experim.n.s tested the bee’s ability to expect rew.rd or pun.shm.n. based on.cap w.ight. Results revealed that bees w.re foun. to have a stron. preferen.e for the light cap an. therefore w.re n.t able to expect rew.rd or pun.shm.n. based on.cap w.ight. These experim.n.s con.ribute to the debate on.w.ether bees have “cogn.tive” represen.ation. an. con.in.e to support the behaviorist in.erpretation.
