High-Yielding and Carotenoid-Rich Clones Identification among Thirty-One Cassava Clones with Colored Flesh

Cassava is the second most important food crop produced and consumed in Côte d’Ivoire, after yam. White-fleshed varieties, which are low in total carotenoids, are widespread, while coloured-fleshed varieties (yellow to orange), carotenoid-rich, are rare. However, the consumption of carotenoid-rich cassava varieties could help to alleviate health problems related to vitamin A deficiency. This study aims to identify high agronomic performance, carotenoid-rich and versatile cassava varieties among 31 clones introduced from IITA. They were compared to three controls, Bocou2, Yacé and Bonou2, according to agronomic and technological parameters. Results found that out of the 31 clones, six (I082425, I084157, I084563, I085894, I083774 and I070520) were more productive than the control Bocou2 (46.01 ± 14.88 t·ha-1);the clone I083774 had the highest yield (55.88 ± 6.16 t·ha-1). Twenty-one clones had dry matter contents, ranging from 37% to 41%, significantly similar to Yacé control (42.70%). Thirteen clones had highest total carotenoid contents than the control Bocou2. Clones I084157 and I082425 recorded the highest total carotenoid contents with 17.57 ± 1.92 and 18.39 ± 1.19n> n style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"">μg·g-1 respectively. Overall 31 tested clones were fibrous to varying degrees while 27 clones had mild or neutral post-cooking flavours and 17 clones had poor cooking. The clone I084157 is the best compromise of agronomic and technological desired traits.

Vine cutting is an effective solution to solve the problem of seed availability in yam cultivation. This study was conducted to improve the recovery and rooting rate of vine cuttings of Dioscorea rotundata. Two-node cuttings from five (5)-month-old hybrid plants were grown in liquid media consisting of phytohormones (AIA3 and GA3) and liquid fertilizer (nPK 8-8-8) at different concentrations. Observations were made weekly from the 21st day after transplanting and focused on the survival rate of the cuttings, the number of roots emitted and the number of minitubers initiated. The results obtained showed a significant effect of the different growing media on the survival rate, rooting and production of minitubers. The best survival rates were obtained for cuttings grown in nPK (8-8-8) at 0.25% (100%) and AIA3 at 25 ppm (93.3%). The highest averages root number was recorded with growing media containing 0.25% nPK 8-8-8 (20.3) and 25 ppm AIA3 (17.7). Growing media with 0.25% nPK (8-8-8) and 25 ppm AIA3 provided the highest average numbers of minitubers initiated, respectively 5 and 4.6. Growing medium containing 0.25% nPK 8-8-8 has been identified as the one that allows better roots emission and minitubers production by yam vines cuttings.

This paper concerns the study of the numerical approximation for the following initialboundary value problem{ut-uzx=f（u）,t∈（0,1）,t∈（0,T） u（0,t）=0,t∈（0,1）,t∈（0,T） u（x,0）=u0（x）,x∈（0,1）where f（s） is a positive, increasing, C1 convex function for the nonnegative values of s, f（0）〉0, f∞ds/f（s）〈∞, u0∈C1（[0, 1]）, u0（0） = 0, u＇0（1）=0. We find some conditions under which the solution of a semidiscrete form of the above problem blows up in a finite time and estimate its semidiserete blow-up time. We also prove the convergence of the semidiscrete blow-up time to the theoretical one. A similar study has been also undertaken for a discrete form of the above problem. Finally, we give some numerical results to illustrate our analysis.

seventh tumor-node-metastasis staging of gastric cancer: Five-year follow-up

Seventh tumor-node-metastasis(TnM) classification for gastric cancer,published in 2010,introduced changes in all of its three parameters with the aim to increase its accuracy in prognostication. The aim of this review is to analyze the efficacy of these changes and their implication in clinical practice. We reviewed relevant Literature concerning staging systems in gastric cancer from 2010 up to March 2016. Adenocarcinoma of the esophago-gastric junction still remains a debated entity,due to its peculiar anatomical and histological situation: further improvement in its staging are required. Concerning distant metastases,positive peritoneal cytology has been adopted as a criterion to define metastatic disease: however,its search in clinical practice is still far from being routinely performed,as staging laparoscopy has not yet reached wide diffusion. Regarding definition of T and n: in the era of multimodal treatment these parameters should more influence both staging and surgery. The changes about T-staging suggested some modifications in clinical practice. Differently,many controversies on lymph node staging are still ongoing,with the proposal of alternative classification systems in order to minimize the extent of lymphadenectomy. The next TnM classification should take into account all of these aspects to improve its accuracy and the comparability of prognosis in patients from both Eastern and Western world.

We studied 14 moderately overweight Typo 2 diabetic patients with essential hypertension in stable metabolic control after a run-in period , and again after 3 months of antihypertensive treatment with the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACF) inhibitor captopril. Glucose tolerance was tested with a 75g oral glucose load (OGTT) and insulin sensitivity was measured by the insulin suppression test (IST) while dietary and drug treatment of the hyperglycemia was maintained constant. In the whole group. mean blood pressure (MBP) fell progressively over 3months from a baseline value of 123± 3 mmHg (1 mmHg= 0. 133 kpa) to a final value of 115± 2 mmHg(Pnt, fasting plasma glucose, insulin, free fatty acid (FFA). potassium, and glycosylated hemoglobin concentrations were unchanged from baseline. There were no significant differences in glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity between pre- and post-trearment values. neither endogenous (oral glucose) nor exogenous (IST) insulin caused any change in plasma potassium concentration. This resistance to the hypokalemic action of insulin was not affected by captopril.

Buschke-Lowenstein Tumor (BLT) or Giant Acuminate Condyloma (GAC) is an uncommon clinical entity rarely published in Cote d’Ivoire and Africa. It is a viral infection with increasing sexual transmission due to the resurgence of HIV infection. This observation is the first case recorded in our service in three decades. The treatment is resolutely surgical, in our context of sub-medicalization, in the absence of other therapeutic means. Most of the time the progression is favorable, but the prognosis can be aggravated by the HIV coinfection. Through this observation, the authors insist on the prevention of all sexually transmitted infections, particularly, with HPV and HIV, by sexual education (abstinence, fidelity, port of condom) and the systematic vaccination before any sexual activity.

A series of new complexes, CpTiCl[S2P(OR)2]2 (where R) Et, n-Pr, i-Pr, Bui, Ph) and CpTiCl [S2POGO]2 (where G) –CH2CMe2CH2-, -CMe2CMe2-) have been prepared by the drop wise addition of the appropriate O, O’-dialkyl or -alkylene dithiophosphoric acid to cyclopentadienyl titanium trichloride in 1:2 molar ratio and refluxed in benzene solution. The new compounds were characterized by molecular weight measurements elemental analyses and spectroscopic studies (1H, 13C, and 31P nMR, and in-frared). We suggest a distorted tetrahedron structure of these new complexes and the dithioligand behaves as bidentate ligand.

Mortality at 9 years in alcohol-dependence: The respective roles of alcohol, tobacco, and vulnerability genes

Aims: Different vulnerability genes have been proposed in alcohol dependence, but replications are sparse, probably due to 1) phenotypical heterogeneity and 2) difficulties to rely on reliable definition of the correct phenotype. Indeed, specific subgroups of patients may be more directly concerned with some vulnerability genes, the actions of these genes being more directly related to their function. We postulated that three potential vulnerability genes, that were at least twice associated with alcohol dependence, influence the extreme of the severity of alcohol dependence, i.e. mortality, through traits with which they were previously associated, namely impulsivity and antisocial personality disorder and the 5-HT1B gene, suicide attempt and the short allele of 5-HTTLPR, and addictive disorder comorbidity and the DRD2 gene. Methods: We analysed the survival status of a male alcohol-dependent sample (n = 126) recruited 9 years before, and could compare 61 surviving patients to 41 patients who died during this period (representing 81.0% of the initial sample). Results: The main clinical characteristic that was associated with an increased mortality rate was a larger cumulative tobacco use (pack-years). We also found that the C allele of the 5-HT1b was the only one in excess in the non-surviving patients. Contrary to our hypothesis, impulsivity and antisocial personality disorder were not explaining the role of this gene. Conclusions: Even if there is a significant involvement of the 5- HT1B C allele, no intermediate phenotype was detected in our sample. The relatively short delay of 9 years and the somewhat old age at baseline of our patients could have limited the influence of psychiatric comorbidity or the specificities of alcohol dependence, explaining why the only detected co-factor was tobacco consumption. Emergency neonatal Obstetric Cares at Cocody University Hospital: Overview of Instrumental Extraction

Objectives: The aim of this study was to show an overview of situation of instrumental extraction at the maternity of Cocody University Hospital by determining availability and assessing the maternal and fetal prognosis. Patients and method: it was a retrospective study with a descriptive purpose on 6 months from January 1 to June 31, 2015. It concerned all patients admitted in the expulsive phase of labor delivery room and with an indication of fetal instrumental extraction and the state of their newborns at birth. Results: We saved 2288 vaginal deliveries;including 28 instrumental deliveries on 104 indications of instrumental extraction is an implementation rate of 26.9% (16 by vacuum extractor and 12 forceps). Among patients with indication but without instrumental extraction (n = 76), there is 42.3% vaginal delivery (n = 44) and 30.8% of cesarean section (n = 32). 44 have given birth vaginally (42.3%) and 32 by caesarean section (30.8%). It’s young patient (28 years), nulliparous (42.3%). Average time between instrumental extraction indication and the delivery of the baby was 58 min in the case of instrumental extraction and 1 hour 41 minutes in the case of spontaneous delivery in anticipation of the c-section. Motherhood had 3 instrumental extractors (2 vacuum extractors and 1 forceps) recycled after each use. The Apgar score was good in 85.7% in children born by instrumental extraction and bad in 54.5% in children born vaginally without instrumental extraction. We found 20 stillborn in intra partum occurred only in children born vaginally without instrumental extraction. Twelve (12) cases of bleeding of the issue by uterine atony (27.3%) were recorded in patients pregnant without instrumental extraction. no maternal deaths were observed. Conclusion: The realization of instrumental extraction rate remains low at the maternity of the UH-C. In the event, the fetal prognosis was better.

Multiple Detector-Row CT in Gastric Cancer Staging: Prospective Study

The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of multiple detector computed tomography (MDCT) in the preoperative staging of gastric cancer, prospectively comparing CT findings with pathological findings at surgery, in a single-center study. A total of 19 consecutive patients with primary cancer recruited between March and July 2014 were submitted to preoperative MDCT staging according to a standard protocol. All diagnostic procedures were performed by dedicated radiologists who were unaware of the final pathological results. Subsequently, 16 patients underwent surgical treatment and 15 were finally included in the study. The primary tumor was detected at CT in all 15 cases. CT results for T staging were in agreement with pathological findings in 12 of 15 cases, with overall accuracy of 80%. Stage-specific sensibility was high for advanced stages (sensibility for T1, T3, and T4 resulted 60%, 85.7%, and 100%, respectively), while earlier stages showed higher specificity (specificity for T1, T3, and T4 resulted 100%, 75%, and 91.7%, respectively). Overall n staging accuracy was 86.7%, with 13 of 15 patients correctly staged. Stage-specific sensibility was 75% for n0 and 100% for n3, while specificity was 100% for n0 and lower for advanced stages. Accuracy for peritoneal involvement was 100%. Our findings show a good performance of the diagnostic protocol performed with MDCT tested in this study.
