Voandzou is a seed legume cultivated in Burkina Faso with significant nutritional potential. The objective of this study was to assess the genetic diversity of Bambara nut cultivated in Burkina Faso using microsatellite markers. For the study, fifteen SSRs markers were used for molecular characterization of 90 Bambara nut landraces from three agro-climatic zones of Burkina Faso. All markers were 100% polymorphic with an average value of 4.81 for effective alleles. The polymorphism information content (PIC) ranged from 0.654 to 0.867 with a mean of 0.775. Dendrogram classified the accessions in four mixed groups independently of the three agro-climatic zones. This distribution is consistent with the results on the agro-morphological characterization of the same landraces. This information was served as a basic model for breeding and conservation programs of V. subterranea in Burkina Faso.

Living fishery resources, although rich and important for human populations, are subject to strong anthropization, thus causing a change in the environmental parameters of aquatic ecosystems. These multiple combined pressures: chemical, hydro-morphological, thermal or trophic, affect and disrupt the functioning of aquatic organisms. The objective of this study was to assess the main human pressures influencing the surface water resources of the Kamsar sub-prefecture, in order to propose mitigation measures. The following methodological approach was adopted: 1) Survey of managers and analysis records;2) Survey of stakeholders;3) Assessment of the effect of human activities on surface water resources;4) Data processing;5) Corrective measures. The survey farmers working near aquatic environments, revealed a low use of chemical substances, in particular 3 to 11 kg of fertilizer and 0 to 3 boxes of herbicide on fields of 40 m2 to 2 ha. Some physico-chemical parameters have been determined: Temperature (28.5˚C, 23.7˚C, 22.8˚C, 21.3˚C, 21.6˚C), Salinity (26.9‰, 21.9‰, 21.5‰, 15‰, 15.3‰) and Turbidity (21.3 UTn, 19.3 UTn, 17.8 UTn, 16.7 UTn, 17 UTn). These values show a fluctuation in the environmental parameters of aquatic ecosystems, which constitutes an obstacle to the development and survival of the resources.

ng>Summary:ng> A malignant tumour that develops from the bronchial epithelium and then invades the lungs. It ranks third after colorectal and breast cancer. In Mali, computed tomography (CT) is the main imaging tool used at all stages of treatment. We had initiated this study with the objective of specifying the place of CT in the diagnosis of primary bronchopulmonary cancer at the hospital of Mali. ng>Method: ng>This is a prospective and descriptive study conducted by the Medical Imaging and Thoracic Surgery departments at Mali Hospital from March 2014 to February 2015. All the patients who have benefited from a CT scan and presenting at least one histologically confirmed bronchopulmonary tumor were included. ng>Results: ng>We were recruiting 60 patients with bronchopulmonary cancers out of 500 referred for a thoracic CT scan performed, a frequency of 12%. There was one male patient with a sex ratio of 4H/1F. The average age was 60 years. The history of smoking was 85%. The symptoms were dominated by general condition (63.33%), cough (25%) and haemoptysis (58.33%). CT scans were performed in all patients. The lesions were located more in the lower lobes (71%). The tumours were: heterogeneous tissue density (70%), spiculated contours (80%), and the histology was more non-small cell carcinoma. ng>Conclusion: ng>The incidence of bronchopulmonary cancer is very high and its prognosis is poor at an advanced stage. The evaluative role of CT and biopsy guidance has given it a place of choice in its management. The diagnosis of certainty remains histology.

Introduction: Biometrics therefore corresponds to the measurement of the morphological elements of humans. One of the most common ultrasound requests by clinicians is the assessment of liver size. The aim of our study was to study liver biometry using ultrasound in healthy adult subjects. Material and Methods: This was a prospective, descriptive and analytical study, carried out at CHU Point-G over a period of 7 months. A liver ultrasound was performed on 100 individuals without lesions, by a doctor in his final year of specialization in radiology and medical imaging. For each subject, we determined the height and anteroposterior diameter of the right liver and the left liver. Results: The mean age was 39.05 ± 16.86 years. The body mass index (BMI) 18.5 - 24.9 group was the most represented with 58%. The mean height of the right liver was 138.40 ± 14.85 mm. It was 136.81 ± 14.70 mm in men and 139.92 ± 14.99 mm in women (P = 0.306). That of the left liver was 95.55 ± 14.34 mm, in men, it was 91.79 ± 13.51 mm and 99.16 ± 14.31 mm in women (P = 0.019). We found a significant correlation between right liver height and BMI (P = 0.013). Conclusion: The mean values of liver biometry were established in our series. There was a significant correlation between right liver height and BMI. Liver ultrasound remains a reliable technique for liver biometry.

Mitigating Iron Toxicity by Using Rock Phosphate to Improve Rice Productivity

Iron toxicity is a major constraint to rice production, particularly in highly weathered soils of inland valleys in Sub-Saharan Africa where the rice growing area is rapidly expanding. This study aimed to improve the productiveness of iron toxicity sensitive’s rice fields as well as in the unsensitive fields by using local phosphate fertilizers. Eighteen (18) rice genotypes were been assessed in a split plot design in two areas: without iron toxicity and with iron toxicity. nPK, nK, Rock Phosphate, Triple super phosphate, Calcined phosphate and Acidulated phosphate were used as fertilizers. Data collection was focused on agronomic traits and yield (g/m2). The best fertilizers in the area without iron toxicity were nPK (820.2 g/m2) and triple super phosphate (751.7 g/m2). In the iron toxicity area, the best yields were performed by nPK (785.5 g/m2) and raw calcined phosphate (698.3 g/m2). Yet, the Accessions 15, Accessions 225, Accessions 226 and Accessions 270 were rainfed rice genotypes while CC109 A, HB 46 and HB 62 were low-land/irrigated rice genotypes. nPK, nK and acidulated phosphate fertilizers alleviate the best, iron toxicity in both sensitive and unsensitive rice fields.

ng>Introduction:ng> Bladder tumours are frequent, have a poor prognosis and are the second most common genitourinary tumour in men. In Mali, recent statistical data on the prevalence of bladder tumours show a progression with 6.71% in 2006. The euro scanner is used in the diagnostic workup. The work was initiated in order to specify the role of the scanner in the diagnosis of these tumors. ng>Patients and Methods:ng> Prospective descriptive study was carried out in the medical imaging department of Mali Hospital from February to november 2018. Were included any patient with a bladder tumour on euro scanner. The patients had benefited from a preliminary preparation and a renal biological assessment in order to eliminate renal insufficiency. Our examinations were performed with a Siemens 16-slice scanner. These were axial slices performed without, with iodine injection from the pulmonary base to the pubic bones. ng>Results: ng>We had collected 17 patients out of 541 scans i.e. a frequency of 3.76%. The age range of 21 to 40 years was 58.8% with an average age of 25 years. The antecedents (ATCD) found were urinary bilharzia (47%) and smoking (17%). The clinic was dominated by haematuria. It was associated with a bladder mass (52%) and dysuria (23.52%). The CT scan showed a budding appearance, a size greater than 3 cm (82%), infiltration of peri-vesical fat (47.05%), and adenopathy (94%). Associated lesions were: utero-hydronephrosis (58.82%) and metastases (bone and liver in 11.76% of cases each). ng>Conclusion: ng>They are frequent and the history of urinary bilharziasis remains the main risk factor in endemic countries. CT scans are essential in the management of this disease. The diagnosis of certainty remains histology.

Introduction: Retroperitoneal teratoma is a rare congenital tumour, representing only 1% to 10% of primary retroperitoneal tumors in children, far behind ovarian and testicular locations. There is a clear female predominance with a sex ratio of 3.4/1. The purpose of this study is to review the clinical manifestations, the mode of revelation of retroperitoneal teratoma, the diagnostic means and the anatomopathologic aspect of retroperitoneal teratoma, then to show the contribution and the limits of the various imaging examinations: ultrasound, CT and MRI in the diagnosis of retroperitoneal teratoma. Observation: We report the case of a mature retroperitoneal teratoma discovered in a 10-month-old male infant. The diagnosis evoked by ultrasound and abdominal CT was confirmed by histological study of the excised specimen. The postoperative evolution after 3 months was favorable in particular with no signs of recurrence. Conclusion: Retroperitoneal teratoma is a rare congenital tumour. The complete imaging assessment including ultrasound and computed tomography is necessary preoperatively in order to make the diagnosis and to clearly determine the relationship with the various organs. The anatomopathological study confirms the diagnosis of retroperitoneal teratoma. Tumor excision must be radical to avoid recurrence, which readily occurs in a malignant form. Even if the tumor appears benign, postoperative monitoring based on clinical, biological and radiological examination is essential.

The objective of this study was to describe the therapeutic aspects and to evaluate the surgery results of sigmoid Volvulus in the Kati (MALIA) General Surgery Department. Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive study conducted in our General Surgery Department. It took place in two phases for six years: A retrospective phase from January 1st, 2010 to December 31st, 2015 and a prospective phase from January 1st, 2016 to December 31st, 2017. This study has been approved by the Ethics Committee. It’s concerned all the patients operated in the department for colon Volvulus. Results: We collected 70 patients’ files. The Sigmoid Volvulus represented 7.8% of emergency surgery activities and 37.2% of intestinal obstruction. The male sex predominated with 98.57% against 1.43% of the female sex. The average age was 42.11 years old with limits of 18 to 70. The average deadline evolution was 2.53 days with limits of 1 to 3. The sigmoidectomy with immediate anastomosis was performed in 66% of patients, colectomy with 2-times anastomosis: according to Hartman 20% and Bouilly Volkman 11%, detorsion with colopexy 3%. The early morbidity rate was 5.71%. The average duration of hospitalization was 10.8 days with limits of 5 to 40 days. Two deaths were recorded. Conclusion: Sigmoid Volvulus is frequent in young adult sex male in Africa. We did not find any significant difference between the surgical technique and the advent of complications. The Colectomy with immediate anastomosis seems to be ideal to us that anytime the conditions are appropriate.

Introduction: Upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy is an examination that involves exploring the upper part of the digestive tract using an endoscope. Our study was aimed to evaluate the practice of Upper GI endoscopy at the mother-child hospital in Mali. Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive retrospective study on reports of Upper GI endoscopy results in the digestive endoscopy unit at the mother-child hospital in Bamako from January to December 2018.n> Results: Endoscopy was performed in 465 patients including 231 males and 234 females. The sex ratio was 0.98. Patients were aged 46.69 years old on average with the extremes of 8 and 90 years old. Epigastralgia was the main referral in 50.5%. Endoscopy was normal in 24.7%. The main diagnostics were duodenogastric reflux in 32.5% and gastritis in 14.4%. Conclusion: n style="font-family:Verdana;">The practice of Upper GI endoscopy at the mother-child hospital in Mali has allowed the exploration of the upper digestive tract to contribute to the diagnosis of esogastroduodenal lesions.

Introduction: Late pregnancies are considered a public health problem linked to maternal mortality due to their complications. These risks, which worsen with maternal age, should be better known and taken into account in monitoring these pregnancies. Objective: To evaluate the impact of age on the prevalence of obstetric and neonatal complications among parturients of 40 years old and over. Methodology: This was an 11-year retrospective analytical case control study from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2017. The study population was female patients of 40 years old or older for cases and female patients younger than 40 years of control case. Results: In total, we collected 640 cases of parturients of 40 years old and over out of a total of 84,234 deliveries during the study period;i.e. a frequency of 0.76%. Spontaneous abortion increased in patients of 40 and over with 8.28%. Hypertension and diabetes were higher of women of 40 and over, 52.65%. Concerning the method of admission: 55% of parturients of 40 and over were referrals. Incidents occurring among women of 40 and over were more pronounced than in control cases. Complications during vaginal delivery, cervical tear, perineal tear, uterine dehiscence and uterine rupture are high in our cases, i.e. 11.88%;3.59%;2.19%;2.66. During our study, depending on the type of delivery, the cesarean rate was much higher among women of 40 and over than among control cases, i.e. 54.22% versus 12.24%. Hemorrhages in the 3rd trimester were the main indications for cesarean section. Hemorrhages in the 3rd trimester were more frequent with women of 40 and over, i.e. 10.47%;5.94% versus 1.74% and 0.42%. As for the different types of malformations in parturients, women under 40 years old fetal malformations were absent in 92.29%, on the other hand they were more frequent in patients with 40 years and over, i.e. a normal frequency of 36.72%.
