Comparison of the clinical efficacy of medical treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia between normal and obese patients

We aimed to investigate the difference in efficacy of medical treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia （BPH） between normal and obese patients with BPH; obesity was determined by either body mass index （BMI） or waist circumference （WC）. In this 12-week prospective observational study, a total of 175 patients aged ≥40 years with International Prostate Symptom Scores （IPSS） ≥12 points and prostate volume≥20 ml were prospectively enrolled. The patients were divided into two groups according to BMI or WC. Patients received the doxazosin gastrointestinal therapeutic system （GITS） at a dose of 4 mg once per day for 12 weeks. The changes from baseline in the IPSS, maximal urinary flow rate （Qmax）, post-void residual volume, quality of life （QoL） scores and adverse events （AEs） were analysed. Of the 175 enrolled patients, 132 completed the study. Sixty-seven patients had BMI 〉23 kg m-2, and 43 had WC 〉90 cm. Obese patients represented by WC 〉90 cm or BMI≥ 23 kg m-2 had a significantly greater prostate volume compared with non-obese patients at baseline. Total IPSS was significantly higher in the WC 〉90 cm group compared to the WC ≤ 90 cm group. Total I PSS was positively correlated with prostate volume （P=-0.031） and WC （P=0.045）. All groups showed significant improvements in total IPSS and QoL at 12 weeks. However, the improvement of total IPSS was greater in the high-BMI and high-WC groups. The most frequent AE was dizziness （n= 13）, and it was significantly lower in the obese BPH patients. Obesity was associated with increased prostate volume and lower urinary tract symptoms. Alpha-blockers appear to be efficacious for controlling symptoms, especially in obese men.

Hydrogen(H_(2))is a promising renewable energy which finds wide applications as the world gears toward low-carbon ***,current H_(2) production via steam methane reforming of natural gas or gasification of coal are laden with high CO_(2) ***,methane(CH_(4))pyrolysis has emerged as a potential technology to generate low-carbon H_(2) and solid *** this review,the current state-of-art and recent progress of H_(2) production from CH_(4) pyrolysis are reviewed in *** such as funda-mental mechanism and chemistry involved,effect of process parameters on the conversion efficiency and reaction kinetics for various reaction media and catalysts are elucidated and critically ***-ature,among other factors,plays the most critical influence on the methane pyrolysis *** metal/salt could lower the operating temperature of methane pyrolysis tosually operates in the regime of>1000℃.Based on the reaction kinetics,metal-based cata-lysts were more efficient in lowering the activation energy of the reaction to 29.5-88 kJ/mol from that of uncatalyzed reaction(147-420.7 kJ/mol).Besides,the current techno-economic performance of the pro-cess reveals that the levelized cost of H_(2) is directly influenced by the sales price of carbon(by-product)generated,which could offset the overall ***,the main challenges of reactor design for efficient product separation and retrieval,as well as catalyst deactivation/poisoning need to be debottlenecked.

Metabolic relationships between marine red algae and algae‑associated bacteria

On a Heuristic Point of View about the Generalization of Curie Law to Cosmic Higgs Fields with the Casimir Effect

Condensed state physics demonstrates that the Curie temperature is the point at which spontaneous magnetization drops to zero, marking the critical transition where ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic materials transform into paramagnetic substances. Below the Curie temperature, a material remains ferromagnetic;above it, the material becomes paramagnetic, with its magnetic field easily influenced by external magnetic fileds. For example, the Curie temperature of iron (Fe) is 1043 K, while that of neodymium magnets ranges from 583 to 673 K. From both physics and mathematics perspectives, examining the temperature properties of materials is essential, as it provides valuable insights into their electromagnetic and thermodynamic behaviors. This paper makes a bold assumption and, for the first time, carefully verifies the existence of a Casimir temperature at 0.00206 K under conditions of one-atomic spacing.

Data-Hiding Based on sudoku and Generalized Exploiting Modification Direction

Division arithmetic and generalized exploiting modification direction （DA-GEMD） method has perfect efficiency in data-hiding. However, there exist some weaknesses in DA-GEMD. Because the benchmarks are their median of nine pixels in each block of cover-image, it will give a hint for the attacker to hack the stego-image. In the paper, we utilize the sudoku table to randomize the benchmark for each 3×3 block of cover-image. It will mix up the pixels in each image block and prevent the secret information from being extracted. The proposed method still keeps the original efficiency as DA-GEMD while promoting the security for data-hiding.

An analytical study on the second-order resonance system of tide in an ideal partially-enclosed bay

In the numerical studies of a real tide M4 resonance system, the Xiangshan Port which is a partially-closed bay, Dong et al. [1999. Acta Oceanologica Sinica, 21 （3）： 1-6] found the interesting phenomenon that the advection plays an important role in inhibiting the growth of the amplitude of the tidal second-order resonance response （M4）. This result is contrary to the general traditional ideas for a non-resonance system. How this phenomenon is interpreted and what internal mechanism is behind the phenomenon are the main focuses of this study. The followings are examined：（1） the dynamic features of a second-order resonance system of tide; （2） the dominating factors on the second-order resonance responses; （3） the effects of both the friction and the advection on the second-order resonance responses; and （4） their roles in dominating the second-order resonance response and internal mechanisms by using the analytical methods. The respective results show that：（1） Both the bottom friction and the advection play significant roles in dominating the magnitude of the amplitude of the second-order resonance responses; （2） the effect of the friction on the second-order resonance response depends on the distribution ratio of the work-done of the system to friction force exhausted into between the damping of the first-order system and the inner excitation of the second-order system; （3） the advection plays a positive role in increasing the amplitude of the second-order non-resonance response in the second order non-resonance of tide; （4） in a second-order resonance system of tide, the effect of the advection may be either to increase or to decrease the amplitudes of the second-order resonance responses of tide, which depends on the distribution ratio mentioned above.

Automatic Discontinuity Classification of Wind-turbine Blades Using A-scan-based Convolutional Neural Network

Recent development trends in wind power generation have increased the importance of the safe operation of wind-turbine blades(WTBs). To realize this objective, it is essential to inspect WTBs for any defects before they are placed into operation. However, conventional methods of fault inspection in WTBs can be rather difficult to implement, since complex curvatures that characterize the WTB structures must ensure accurate and reliable inspection. Moreover, it is considered useful if inspection results can be objectively and consistently classified and analyzed by an automated system and not by the subjective judgment of an inspector. To address this concern,the construction of a pressure-and shape-adaptive phased-array ultrasonic testing platform, which is controlled by a nanoengine operation system to inspect WTBs for internal defects, has been presented in this paper. An automatic classifier has been designed to detect discontinuities in WTBs by using an A-scanimaging-based convolutional neural network(CNN). The proposed CNN classifier design demonstrates a classification accuracy of nearly 99%. Results of the study demonstrate that the proposed CNN classifier is capable of automatically classifying the discontinuities of WTB with high accuracy, all of which could be considered as defect candidates.
